Claims
- 1. A method, comprising:
providing a composite clock reference to a remote synchronization supply unit from a master synchronization supply unit; providing a synchronization status message to the remote synchronization supply unit; relaying the composite clock reference from the remote synchronization supply unit; and relaying the synchronization status message from the remote synchronization supply unit.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the synchronization status message is received from a source selected from the group consisting of the master synchronization supply unit, a test equipment device and a global positioning satellite system clock reference.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein relaying the synchronization status message includes relaying the synchronization status message to a network element coupled to the remote synchronization supply unit.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein relaying the synchronization status message includes routing the synchronization status message to at least one of a plurality of network elements coupled to the remote synchronization supply unit.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein relaying the synchronization status message includes broadcasting the synchronization status message to all of a plurality of network elements coupled to the remote synchronization supply unit.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein relaying the composite clock reference from the remote synchronization supply unit from the master synchronization supply unit includes selecting one of a plurality of composite clock references from the master synchronization supply unit.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein relaying the synchronization status message from the remote synchronization supply unit includes selecting one of a plurality of synchronization status messages.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a redundant DS1 timing reference to the remote synchronization supply unit.
- 9. An apparatus, comprising:
a master synchronization supply unit; and a remote synchronization supply unit coupled to the master synchronization supply unit, the remote synchronization supply unit including a composite clock reference input to receive a composite clock reference from the master synchronization supply unit, a composite clock output to relay the composite clock reference, a synchronization status message input to receive a synchronization status message, and a synchronization status message output to relay the synchronization status message.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the synchronization status message is received from a source selected from the group consisting of the master synchronization supply unit, a test equipment device and a global positioning satellite system clock reference.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 9, further comprising a network element coupled to the synchronization status message output.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the synchronization status message input includes a DS1 input.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the remote synchronization supply unit includes another synchronization status message input.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the synchronization status message output includes a DS1 output.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the remote synchronization supply unit includes another synchronization status message output.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the remote synchronization supply unit includes another composite clock reference input.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the remote synchronization supply unit includes another composite clock reference output.
- 18. A method for synchronizing a network that comprises utilizing the apparatus of claim 9.
- 19. A network, comprising the apparatus of claim 9.
