Claims
- 1. A method for suppressing banding due to vibration in a laser imager, comprising the steps of:selectively discharging an imaging means including a light source for producing a light beam and scanning means for repeatedly scanning said light beam in parallel and adjacent linear scan lines across an electrophotographic medium, said imaging means further including beam modulation means including data signal producing means for causing said beam to produce a latent image in accordance with governing equations which relate on/off time and intensity to velocity and frequency of vibration with data desired for reproduction, wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam orthogonally to said linear scan lines in a manner based on calculating means to suppress development of a regular interstitial pattern at boundaries of adjacent scan lines; producing data signal by defining a combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations; wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam orthogonally by an amplitude directly related to said amplitude of frequency modulation.
- 2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of:defining the frequency modulation equation which governs said on/off time as t1+e sin(2πft1)/v0=t0 wherein t1 is in terms of nominal on-time t0, e (vibration amplitude), v0 (nominal velocity) and f (vibration frequency).
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:defining said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations for governing said intensity as H3(t)=v(t)/v0 wherein H3(t) controls the level of irradiance.
- 4. The method of claim 3, further comprising the step of:using said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations extended to multi-temporal vibration frequency and banding correction due to irradiance modulation.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:defining said amplitude modulation equation having a fixed amplitude sufficient to drive said beam modulation means to displace said light beam orthogonally a distance of the widest of said interstices between said adjacent linear scans.
- 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:fixing amplitude of said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation signal sufficient to drive said beam modulation means to displace said light beam orthogonally a distance of the widest of said interstices between said adjacent linear scans.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein:said beam modulation means comprises means for deflecting said light beam and thereby displacing said light beam orthogonally.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:producing a signal with a maximum modulation amplitude sufficient to drive said beam modulation means to displace said light beam orthogonally the distance of the widest of said interstices between said adjacent linear scans.
- 9. A system for suppressing banding due to vibration in a laser imager, comprising:beam modulation means for modulating a beam including data signal producing means for causing said beam to produce a latent image in accordance with governing equations which relate on/off time and intensity to velocity and frequency of vibration with data desired for reproduction, wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam orthogonal to linear scan lines in a manner based on calculating means to suppress development of a regular interstitial pattern at boundaries of adjacent scan lines; and data signal producing means for defining a combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations; wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam orthogonally by an amplitude directly related to said amplitude of frequency modulations.
- 10. The system for banding suppression of claim 9, wherein said frequency modulation equation governs:said on/off time as t1+e sin(2πft1)/v0=t0 wherein t1 is in terms of nominal on-time t0, e (vibration amplitude), v0 (nominal velocity) and f (vibration frequency).
- 11. The system for banding suppression of claim 9, wherein:said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations for governs said intensity as H3(t)=v(t)/v0 wherein H3(t) controls the level of irradiance.
- 12. The system for banding suppression of claim 11, wherein:said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations extends to multi-temporal vibration frequency and banding correction due to irradiance modulation.
- 13. The system for banding suppression of claim 9, wherein:said amplitude modulation equation has a fixed amplitude sufficient to drive said beam modulation means to displace said light beam orthogonally a distance of the widest of said interstices between said adjacent linear scans.
- 14. The system for banding suppression of claim 9, wherein:said amplitude of said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation signal is sufficient to drive said beam modulation means to displace said light beam orthogonally a distance of the widest of said interstices between said adjacent linear scans.
- 15. The system for banding suppression of claim 9, wherein:said beam modulation means comprises means for deflecting said light beam and thereby displacing said light beam orthogonally.
- 16. A method for suppressing banding due to vibration in an laser imager, comprising the step of:selectively discharging an imaging means including a light source for producing a light beam and scanning means for repeatedly scanning said light beam in parallel and adjacent linear scan lines across an electrophotographic medium, said imaging means further including beam modulation means including a combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations for causing said beam to produce a latent image in accordance with governing equations which relate on/off time and intensity to velocity and frequency of vibration with data desired for reproduction, wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam in a predetermined manner orthogonal to said linear scan lines to suppress development of a regular interstitial pattern at boundaries of adjacent scan lines, wherein said frequency modulation equation which governs said on/off time is t1+e sin(2πft1)/v0+t0, wherein t1 is in terms of nominal on-time t0, e (vibration amplitude), v0 (nominal velocity) and f (vibration frequency) and said combination of amplitude and frequency modulation equations governs said intensity is H3(t)=v(t)/v0, wherein H3(t) controls the level of irradiance; and wherein said beam modulation means displaces said light beam orthogonally by an amplitude directly related to said amplitude of frequency modulation.
