Claims
- 1. A surface acoustic wave device comprising:
- a quartz rotated Y-cut substrate having a Euler angle represented by (0, .theta., .phi.), the angle .theta. being within a range of about 125.degree. to about 132.degree.; and
- at least one interdigital transducer disposed on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate, the at least one interdigital transducer including one of tungsten and tantalum.
- 2. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the angle .phi. is within a range of about 80.degree. about 100.degree..
- 3. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the substrate and the at least one interdigital transducer are constructed to generate at least one of shear horizontal surface acoustic waves, Love surface acoustic waves, leaky surface acoustic waves and Bleustein-Gulyaev-Shimizu surface acoustic waves.
- 4. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes tungsten and has a normalized film thickness h/.lambda. which is within a range of about 0.0075 to about 0.027, where h is a film thickness of the at least one interdigital transducer, and .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the, quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 5. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 4, wherein the angle .theta. and the normalized film thickness h/.lambda. satisfy the following equation:
- .theta.=122.15+376.93.times.(h/.lambda.)+978.89.times.(h/.lambda.).sup.2 .+-.0.5.
- 6. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the device is a surface acoustic wave resonator.
- 7. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the device is a band pass filter.
- 8. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the device is a substrate edge reflection type surface acoustic wave device which is constructed to generate shear horizontal surface acoustic waves.
- 9. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes tantalum and has a normalized film thickness h/.lambda. which is within a range of about 0.006 to about 0.031, where h is a film thickness of the at least one interdigital transducer, and .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 10. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 9, wherein the angle .theta. and the normalized film thickness h/.lambda. satisfy the following equation:
- .theta.=122.4917+292.145.times.(h/.lambda.).
- 11. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 1, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes a plurality of interdigitated electrode fingers and at least one of the interdigitated electrode fingers is flush with an edge of the substrate at one side edge of the substrate.
- 12. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 11, wherein another of the interdigitated electrode fingers is flush with another edges of the substrate at a second side edge of the substrate.
- 13. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 11, wherein a spacing between the interdigitated electrode fingers is about .lambda./4, wherein .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 14. The surface acoustic wave device according to claim 11, wherein a width of the interdigitated electrode fingers is about .lambda./8, wherein .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 15. A method of making a surface acoustic wave device comprising the steps of:
- forming a quartz rotated Y-cut substrate having a Euler angle represented by (0, .theta., .phi.) such that the angle .theta. is within a range of about 125.degree. to about 132.degree.; and
- forming at least one interdigital transducer on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate, the at least one interdigital transducer being formed of one of tungsten and tantalum.
- 16. The method according to claim 15, wherein the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate is formed such that the angle .phi. is within a range of about 80.degree. to about 100.degree..
- 17. The method according to claim 15, further comprising the step of arranging the at least one interdigital transducer and the substrate so as to generate at least one of shear horizontal surface acoustic waves, Love surface acoustic waves, leaky surface acoustic waves and Bleustein-Gulyaev-Shimizu surface acoustic waves.
- 18. The method according to claim 15, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes tungsten and is formed so as to have a normalized film thickness h/.lambda. which is within a range of about 0.0075 to about 0.027, where h is a film thickness of the at least one interdigital transducer, and .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 19. The method according to claim 18, wherein the angle .theta. and the normalized film thickness h/.lambda. satisfy the following equation:
- .theta.=122.1+376.93.times.(h/.lambda.)+978.89.times.(h/.lambda.).sup.2 .+-.0.5.
- 20. The method according to claim 15, wherein the surface acoustic wave device is a surface acoustic wave resonator.
- 21. The method according to claim 15, wherein the surface acoustic wave device is a band pass filter.
- 22. The method according to claim 15, wherein the surface acoustic wave device is a substrate edge reflection type surface acoustic wave device which is constructed to generate shear horizontal surface acoustic waves.
- 23. The method according to claim 15, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes tantalum and is formed so as to have a normalized film thickness h/.lambda. which is within a range of about 0.006 to about 0.031, where h is a film thickness of the at least one interdigital transducer, and .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 24. The method according to claim 23, wherein the angle .theta. and the normalized film thickness h/.lambda. satisfy the following equation:
- .theta.=122.4917+292.145.times.(h/.lambda.).
- 25. The method according to claim 15, wherein the at least one interdigital transducer includes a plurality of interdigitated electrode fingers and at least one of the interdigitated electrode fingers is flush with an edge of the substrate at one side edge of the substrate.
- 26. The method according to claim 25, wherein another of the interdigitated electrode fingers is flush with another edges of the substrate at a second side edge of the substrate.
- 27. The method according to claim 25, wherein a spacing between the interdigitated electrode fingers is about .lambda./4, wherein .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
- 28. The method according to claim 25, wherein a width of the interdigitated electrode fingers is about .lambda./8, wherein .lambda. is a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave excited on the quartz rotated Y-cut substrate.
