Claims
- 1. An isolated amino acid sequence having a sequence selected from the group consisting of ALKTGKIDIIISGMTSTPERKK (SEQ ID NO: 14), VEGAWEKPVAEAYLKQN (SEQ ID NO: 15), and EYAGVDIDLAKKIAK (SEQ ID NO: 16).
- 2. An isolated surface protein from gram-positive bacteria which includes the sequence according to claim 1.
- 3. An isolated antibody which can recognize a sequence according to claim 1.
- 4. An antibody according to claim 3, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
- 5. An antibody according to claim 3, wherein the antibody is a polyclonal antibody.
- 6. A pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria containing an isolated antibody according to claim 3 and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, carrier or excipient.
- 7. A method of treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising administering to a human or animal patient a pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6 in an amount effective to treat or prevent said infection.
- 8. Isolated antisera containing an antibody according to claim 3.
- 9. A diagnostic kit for diagnosing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising an antibody according to claim 3, means for introducing the antibody to a sample suspected of containing gram-positive bacteria, and means for identifying gram-positive bacteria that are recognized by said antibody.
- 10. A vaccine for generating an immune response against gram-positive bacteria comprising an immunogenic amount of an amino acid sequence according to claim 1, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, carrier or excipient.
- 11. A method of treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising administering to a human or animal patient a vaccine according to claim 10 in an amount effective to treat or prevent said infection.
- 12. An isolated antibody which can recognize a protein according to claim 2.
- 13. An antibody according to claim 12, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
- 14. An antibody according to claim 12, wherein the antibody is a polyclonal antibody.
- 15. A pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria containing an isolated antibody according to claim 12 and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, carrier or excipient.
- 16. A method of treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising administering to a human or animal patient a pharmaceutical composition according to claim 15 in an amount effective to treat or prevent said infection.
- 17. A vaccine for generating an immune response against gram-positive bacteria comprising an immunogenic amount of a protein according to claim 2, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, carrier or excipient.
- 18. A method of treating or preventing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising administering to a human or animal patient a vaccine according to claim 17 in an amount effective to treat or prevent said infection.
- 17. Isolated antisera containing an antibody according to claim 12.
- 18. A diagnostic kit for diagnosing an infection caused by gram-positive bacteria comprising an antibody according to claim 12, means for introducing the antibody to a sample suspected of containing gram-positive bacteria, and means for identifying gram-positive bacteria that are recognized by said antibody.
- 19. A method of generating an immune response to a gram-positive bacterial surface protein comprising administering an immunogenic amount of an amino acid sequence according to claim 1 to a suitable host.
- 20. A method of generating an immune response to a gram-positive bacterial surface protein comprising administering an immunogenic amount of a protein according to claim 2 to a suitable host.
- 21. An isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding an amino acid sequence according to claim 1.
- 22. An isolated nucleic acid molecule encoding a protein according to claim 2.
- 23. An isolated surface protein from gram-positive bacteria which includes the sequence LPXTG (SEQ ID NO:13).
- 24. An isolated surface protein from gram-positive bacteria having a sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOS:1-12.
- 25. An isolated antibody that recognizes a protein according to claim 24.
