Claims
- 101. A tinting composition for tinting a surface comprising:
a solvent selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic hydrocarbon, a polydimethylsiloxane solvent and mixtures thereof, the solvent comprising from about 50 to about 99.9 wt. % of the tinting composition; and a pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, mica, and mixtures thereof the pigment comprising from about 0.1 to about 50 wt. % of the tinting composition; and a compound selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, amide powder, rheology additives, clays, surfactants, cellulose gums, carbomers, precipitated silica, and mixtures thereof, the compound comprising from about 0.01 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 102. The tinting compound of claim 101 further comprising an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of nonionic, cationic, anionic and amphoteric surfactants, block polymers, block copolymers, acrylics, primary and secondary emulsifiers, and mixtures thereof, the emulsifier comprising from about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of the tinting composition
- 103. The tinting composition of claim 101 further comprising fragrance, the fragrance comprising from about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 104. The tinting composition of claim 101 further comprising an ultraviolet additive, the ultraviolet additive comprising from about 0.001 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition
- 105. The tinting composition of claim 101, wherein the polydimethylsiloxane has a viscosity ranging from about 0.111 cst to about 12,000,000 cst.
- 106. A tinting composition for tinting a surface comprising:
a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, silicone fluid, a hydrocarbon solvent and mixtures thereof, the solvent comprising from about 50 to about 99.9 wt. % of the tinting composition; a pigment selected from the group consisting of iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, calcium sodium borosilicate, organic constituent containing pigments, inorganic constituent containing pigments, fluorescent constituent containing pigments, phosphorescent constituent containing pigments, luminescent constituent containing pigments, ultraviolet absorbing pigments, mineral constituent containing pigments, amorphous glass oxides, polyacrylates, metal flakes, reflective pigments and mixtures thereof, the pigment comprising from about 0.1 to about 50 wt. % of the tinting composition; an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of nonionic, cationic, anionic and amphoteric surfactants, block polymers, block copolymers, acrylics, primary and secondary emulsifiers, and mixtures thereof, the emulsifier comprising from about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of the tinting composition; and a compound selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, amide powder, rheology additives, clays, surfactants, cellulose gums, carbomers, precipitated silica, and mixtures thereof wherein the compound comprises from about 0.01 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 107. The tinting composition of claim 106 further comprising fragrance and an ultraviolet additive.
- 108. The tinting composition of claim 107, wherein the fragrance comprises from about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 109. The tinting composition of claim 107, wherein the ultraviolet additive comprises from about 0.001 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 110. The tinting composition of claim 106, wherein the silicone fluid is polydimethylsiloxane and has a viscosity ranging from about 0.65 cst to about 12,000,000 cst.
- 111. A tinting composition for tinting a surface comprising:
a solvent selected from the group consisting of a hydrocarbon solvent, a silicone fluid and mixtures thereof, the solvent comprising from about 75 to about 99.9 wt. % of the tinting composition; a pigment selected from the group consisting of iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, calcium sodium borosilicate, organic constituent containing pigments, inorganic constituent containing pigments, fluorescent constituent containing pigments, phosphorescent constituent containing pigments, luminescent constituent containing pigments, ultraviolet absorbing pigments, mineral constituent containing pigments, amorphous glass oxides, polyacrylates, metal flakes, reflective pigments and mixtures thereof, the pigment comprising from about 0.1 to about 25 wt. % of the tinting composition; and a compound selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, amide powder, rheology additives, clays, surfactants, cellulose gums, carbomers, precipitated silica, and mixtures thereof, the compound comprising from about 0.01 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 112. The tinting compound of claim 111 further comprising an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of nonionic, cationic, anionic and amphoteric surfactants, block polymers, block copolymers, acrylics, primary and secondary emulsifiers, and mixtures thereof, the emulsifier comprising from about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of the tinting compound.
- 113. The tinting composition of claim 111, wherein the hydrocarbon solvent is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, parafinic solvents, ketones and mixtures thereof.
- 114. The tinting composition of claim 111, further comprising a fragrance from about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 115. The tinting composition of claim 111, further comprising an ultraviolet additive from about 0.001 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 116. The tinting composition of claim 111, wherein the solvent is a silicone fluid having a viscosity ranging from about 0.65 cst to about 12,000,000 cst.
- 117. A tinting composition for tinting a surface comprising:
a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, a hydrocarbon solvent, silicone fluids and mixtures thereof, the solvent comprising from about 75 to about 99.9 wt. % of the tinting composition; and a pigment selected from the group consisting of iron oxide, titanium dioxide, mica, calcium sodium borosilicate, organic constituent containing pigments, inorganic constituent containing pigments, fluorescent constituent containing pigments, phosphorescent constituent containing pigments, luminescent constituent containing pigments, ultraviolet absorbing pigments, mineral constituent containing pigments, amorphous glass oxides, polyacrylates, metal flakes, reflective pigments and mixtures thereof, the pigment comprising from about 0.1 to about 25 wt. % of the tinting composition; and an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of nonionic, cationic, anionic and amphoteric surfactants, block polymers, block copolymers, acrylics, primary and secondary emulsifiers, and mixtures thereof, the emulsifier comprising from about 0.1 to about 15 wt. % of the tinting compound.
- 118. The tinting composition of claim 117, further comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, amide powder, rheology additives, clays, surfactants, cellulose gums, carbomers, precipitated silica, and mixtures thereof from about 0.01 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition, fragrance and an ultraviolet additive.
- 119. The tinting composition of claim 118, the fragrance comprising from about 0.01 to about 5 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 120. The tinting composition of claim 118, the ultraviolet additive comprising from about 0.001 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 121. The tinting composition of claim 117, wherein the silicone fluid has a viscosity ranging from about 0.65 cst to about 12,000,000 cst.
- 122. A tinting composition for tinting a surface comprising:
water comprising about 75 wt. % of the tinting compound; silicone fluid comprising about 22.5 wt. % of the tinting compound; a pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, mica, and mixtures thereof, the pigment comprising about 2.5 wt. % of the tinting compound; and an emulsifier.
- 123. The tinting composition of claim 122, further comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, amide powder, rheology additives, clays, surfactants, cellulose gums, carbomers, precipitated silica, and mixtures thereof, fragrance and an ultraviolet additive.
- 124. The tinting composition of claim 123, wherein the compound comprises from about 0.01 to about 10 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 125. The tinting composition of claim 123, the fragrance comprising at least 0.01 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 126. The tinting composition of claim 123, the ultraviolet additive comprising at least 0.001 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 127. A method of tinting a surface comprising:
selecting a surface for tinting; mixing a solvent selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbons, polydimethylsiloxane and mixtures thereof, a pigment selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide, mica and mixtures thereof, a silica and an emulsifier to form a tinting composition; and applying the tinting composition to the surface.
- 128. The method of claim 127, wherein the surface is a polymeric substrate.
- 129. The method of claim 128, wherein the polymeric substrate is selected from the group consisting of rubber, engineered plastic, and vinyl.
- 130. The method of claim 128, wherein the polymeric substrate is selected from the group consisting of the surface of a tire, dashboard, bumper, steering wheel, mudflap, and seat.
- 131. The method of claim 127, wherein the surface is selected from the group consisting of metal, glass, fiberglass, plastic, and paint.
- 132. The method of claim 127, further including the step of drying the tinting composition.
- 133. The method of claim 127, wherein the step of mixing further includes adding a fragrance.
- 134. The method of claim 127, wherein the step of mixing further includes adding an ultraviolet additive.
- 135. The method of claim 127, wherein the step of applying is accomplished by spraying the tinting composition onto the surface.
- 136. The method of claim 128, wherein the step of applying is accomplished by one of the steps selected the group consisting of sponging, dabbing, painting and wiping the tinting composition onto the surface.
- 137. The method of claim 127, wherein the step of applying is accomplished by applying an adhesive which contains the tinting composition onto the surface and removing the adhesive.
- 138. The method of claim 127, wherein the solvent comprises from about 50 to about 99.9 wt. % and the pigment comprises from about 0.1 to about 50 wt. % of the tinting composition.
- 139. The method of claim 138, wherein the solvent comprises from about 75 to about 99.9 wt. % and the pigment comprises from about 0.1 to about 25 wt. % of the tinting composition.
