Claims
- 1. A surface-treated steel plate excellent in adhesion as measured by T-peel strength, which comprises a steel plate substrate, a chromium-containing coating layer formed on the surface of the steel plate substrate, which is composed of metallic chromium, chromium oxide or a mixture thereof, and an ultra-thin layer bonded to the surface of the chromium-containing coating layer, which is composed of hydroxymethyl substituted phenol or a polycondensate thereof, wherein the ultra-thin layer of the hydroxymethyl substituted phenol or its polycondensate has a thickness of 1 to 100 .ANG. and the chromium-containing coating layer has a coated amount of 6 to 360 mg/m.sup.2 as chromium.
- 2. A surface-treated steel plate as set forth in claim 1, wherein the chromium-containing coating layer comprises a metallic chromium layer having a coated chromium amount of up to 300 mg/m.sup.2, which is formed on the steel plate substrate, and a chromium oxide layer having a coated amount of 1 to 60 mg/m.sup.2 as chromium, which is formed on the metallic chromium layer.
- 3. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 2, wherein the metallic chromium layer has a coated chromium amount of from 10 to 200 mg/m.sup.2, and the chromium oxide layer has a coated amount of from 5 to 40 mg/m.sup.2, as chromium.
- 4. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 1, wherein the hydroxymethyl substituted phenol has a molecular weight of 124 to 320.
- 5. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 1, wherein the hydroxymethyl substituted phenol is represented by the following general formula: ##STR6## wherein R stands for a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a hydroxyl group or a phenyl group, n is an integer of from 1 to 3, and m is an integer of from 1 to 3, with the proviso that the sum of m and n does not exceed 5.
- 6. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 5, wherein the hydroxymethyl group is bonded at the ortho- or para-position to the phenolic hydroxy group.
- 7. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 1, wherein the hydroxymethyl substituted phenol is a hydroxymethyl substituted binuclear phenol represented by the following general formula: ##STR7## wherein R.sub.2 stands for a direct bond or a divalent bridging group, each of n' and m' is an integer of up to 2 inclusive of 0, with the proviso that the sum of n' and m' is an integer of at least 1, and p and q, are, independently 0 or 1.
- 8. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 7, wherein the bridging group R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of a methylene group, a methylene-oxymethylene group, an ethylidene group, a 2,2-propylidene group, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a sulfonyl group and an imino group.
- 9. A surface-treated steel plate according to claim 1, wherein the ultra-thin layer of the hydroxymethyl substituted phenol or its polycondensate has a thickness of 1 to 30 .ANG..
- 10. A bonded structure comprising (A) at least two portions of a surface-treated steel plate which comprises (i) a steel plate substrate, (ii) a chromium-containing coating layer formed on the surface of the steel plate substrate, which is composed of metallic chromium, chromium oxide or a mixture thereof and has a coated amount of 6 to 360 mg/m.sup.2 as chromium, and (iii) an ultra-thin layer bonded to the surface of the chromium-containing coating layer, which is composed of a hydroxymethyl substituted phenol or a polycondensate thereof and has a thickness of 1 to 100 .ANG., and (B) a polyamide adhesive interposed between the two ultra-thin layers of said portions.
- 11. A bonded can having a side seam, which comprises a bonded structure as set forth in claim 10.
