Claims
- 1. A composition, consisting of the reaction product of the simultaneous reaction of a halogenated carboxylic acid, a fatty acid, and a polyamine wherein the acid equivalents are equal to the amine equivalents.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the number of halogenated acid equivalents is equal to the number of fatty acid equivalents.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the number of halogenated acid equivalents is not equal to the number of fatty acid equivalents.
- 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is 2-chloropropionic acid.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is trichloroacetic acid.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is trifluoroacetic acid.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is 2-bromopropionic acid.
- 8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is iodoacetic acid.
- 9. The composition of claim 1 wherein the halogenated acid is iodobenzoic acid.
- 10. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty acid is oleic acid.
- 11. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty acid is stearic acid.
- 12. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty acid is coconut fatty acid.
- 13. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty acid is a polymerized C18 fatty acid.
- 14. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty acid is an ether acid.
- 15. The composition of claim 1 wherein the polyamine is a diamine.
- 16. The composition of claim 15 wherein the diamine is tallow diamine.
- 17. The composition of claim 15 wherein the diamine is an ether diamine.
- 18. The composition of claim 1 including a reaction medium.
- 19. A process for enhancing the performance characteristics of inert pigments, inorganic color pigments, titanium dioxide, organic pigments, carbon black and other minerals used as pigments comprising adding the composition of claim 1 to a slurry of the pigment and recovering the finished pigment.
- 20. A pigment dispersant composition consisting of the reaction product of a halogenated carboxylic acid and an amine.
- 21. The composition of claim 20 including a reaction medium.
- 22. The composition of claim 20 wherein the halogenated carboxylic acid is 2-chloropropionic acid.
- 23. The composition of claim 20 wherein the halogenated carboxylic acid is trichloroacetic acid.
- 24. The composition of claim 20 wherein the halogenated carboxylic acid is trifluoroacetic acid.
- 25. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a fatty amine.
- 26. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a fatty diamine.
- 27. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a alkanolamine.
- 28. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a polyamine.
- 29. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a primary monoamine.
- 30. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a ether amine.
- 31. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a ether diamine.
- 32. The composition of claim 20 wherein the amine is a ethoxylated amine.
- 33. A biocidal composition consisting of the reaction product of a halogenated carbocylic acid and an amine.
- 34. A biocidal composition, consisting of the reaction product of a halogenated carboxylic acid, a fatty acid, and a polyamine wherein the acid equivalents are equal to the amine equivalents.
- 35. The composition of claim 34 wherein the number of halogenated acid equivalents is equal to the number of fatty acid equivalents.
- 36. The composition of claim 34 wherein the number of halogenated acid equivalents is not equal to the number of fatty acid equivalents.
- 37. The composition of claim 34 including a reaction medium.
