Claims
- 1. A cutting instrument for making an incision at a target site on a moving tissue structure comprising:
- a handle having a stylus member pivotally coupled thereto, said stylus member having a blunt surface adapted to rest on the moving tissue structure proximate to said target site; and
- a blade member pivotally connected to said handle, said blade member being moveable relative to said blunt surface.
- 2. The instrument of claim 1 wherein said blade member is pivotally connected to said handle at a location proximal of where said stylus member is pivotally coupled to said handle.
- 3. The instrument of claim 1 further comprising a link member having a first end pivotally coupled to said stylus member and a second end coupled to said blade member.
- 4. The instrument of claim 3 further comprising a lever operably connected to said blade member for moving said blade member relative to said stylus member.
- 5. A cutting instrument for making an incision at a target site on a moving tissue structure comprising:
- a handle;
- a stylus member moveably coupled to said handle, said stylus member having a blunt point adapted to rest on and move freely with said moving tissue structure;
- a blade member having a cutting edge, said blade member coupled to said handle and said stylus member such that said blade member moves in conjunction with said stylus member as said stylus member moves with said moving tissue structure; and
- a control lever coupled to said blade member to independently move said cutting edge relative to said blunt point.
- 6. The cutting instrument of claim 5 wherein said stylus is moveably coupled to said handle at a pivot joint.
- 7. The cutting instrument of claim 6 wherein said pivot joint is lightly damped.
- 8. The cutting instrument of claim 6 wherein said pivot joint is spring tensioned.
- 9. The cutting instrument of claim 5 wherein said blade member is coupled to said stylus member by an interconnecting link.
- 10. The cutting instrument of claim 9 wherein said blade member is pivotally coupled to said handle.
- 11. The cutting instrument of claim 5 wherein said control lever has a first end operatively coupled to said blade member and a second end operatively coupled to said handle.
- 12. The cutting instrument of claim 11 wherein said first end of said control lever is slidably coupled relative to said blade member.
- 13. The cutting instrument of claim 12 wherein said blade member includes a slot and said first end of said control lever comprises a pin adapted to slide within said slot.
