Claims
- 1. A trocar comprising:
- a laparoscopic cannula;
- an obturator having a sharpened tip for entry into said cannula;
- means for moving said sharpened tip between an extended position and a retracted position relative to said cannula;
- means for rotating said sharpened tip within said cannula when said tip moves between said extended position and said retracted position;
- latch means for releasably maintaining said tip in said extended position; and
- spring means for retracting said tip from said extended position to said retracted position responsive to a release of said latch means.
- 2. The trocar of claim 1, wherein
- said rotating means comprises at least one projection radially inwardly extending from an inner surface of said cannula, and a guide groove spirally extending on said sharpened tip for receiving said projection.
- 3. The trocar of claim 2, wherein
- said projection comprises a pin.
- 4. The trocar of claim 2, wherein
- said guide groove extends spirally from an apex of said tip.
- 5. The trocar of claim 1, wherein
- said rotating means comprises a plurality of projections respectively radially inwardly extending from an inner surface of said cannula and equally circumferentially spaced from each other, and a plurality of guide grooves spirally extending on said sharpened tip for respectively receiving said projections.
- 6. The trocar of claim 5, wherein
- said guide grooves respectively extend spirally extend from an apex of said tip and are equally circumferentially spaced from each other.
- 7. The trocar of claim 1, further comprising,
- manual means for manually releasing said latch means.
- 8. The trocar of claim 1, further comprising,
- sensor means being capable of sensing pressure on said tip for releasing said latch means.
- 9. A trocar comprising:
- a laparoscopic cannula having a plurality of pins respectively projecting radially inwardly from an inner surface of said cannula;
- an obturator having a sharpened tip for entry into said cannula;
- means for moving said sharpened tip between an extended position and a retracted position axially relative to said cannula, and wherein said tip is fluted to form spiral grooves for receiving respective ones of said pins to that said fluted tip rotates within said cannula when said tip moves axially relative to said cannula;
- latch means for releasably maintaining said tip in said extended position; and
- spring means for retracting said tip from said extended position to said retracted position responsive to release of said latch means.
- 10. The trocar of claim 9, wherein
- said cannula includes three pins equally circumferentially spaced from each other, and said sharpened tip includes three equally circumferentially spaced, grooves respectively extending from an apex of said tip for receiving and guiding respective ones of said pins.
