Claims
- 1. A suspension module comprising:
a subframe including a pair of generally parallel subframe rails; a pair of suspension arms pivotally attached to said subframe rails, and each independently pivotal at a first end about a pivot axis; and an airbag mounted on an opposing second end of each of said pair of suspension arms and attached to said subframe rails.
- 2. The suspension module as recited in claim 1 wherein said airbags are attached to said subframe rails by an airbag bracket.
- 3. The suspension module as recited in claim 1 wherein each of said suspension arms are semi-trailing arms, and a spindle is bolted on each of said suspension arms between said first end and said second end.
- 4. The suspension module as recited in claim 3 wherein said airbags are located on a side of said spindle opposite to said pivot axis.
- 5. The suspension module as recited in claim 3 wherein a shock absorber is positioned between each of said suspension arms and said subframe rails.
- 6. The suspension module as recited in claim 5 wherein said shocks absorbers are positioned approximately over said axle centerline.
- 7. The suspension module as recited in claim 1 further including a lateral support extending between said pair of subframe rails.
- 8. The suspension module as recited in claim 7 further including a drive line which transfers rotational drive from a transmission to a carrier housing secured to said lateral support, and a carden shaft that transfers rotational drive from said carrier housing to a spindle bolted on each of said suspension arms.
- 9. The suspension module as recited in claim 8 wherein said carrier housing is secured to said lateral support by visco-elastic mounts.
- 10. A suspension system comprising:
a vehicle frame; a subframe secured to said frame including a pair of generally parallel subframe rails attached to said vehicle frame and a lateral support extending between said subframe rails; a pair of suspension arms pivotally attached to said subframe rails, and each independently pivotal at a first end about a pivot axis; an airbag mounted on an opposing second end of each of said pair of suspension arms and attached to said subframe rails; a spindle bolted on each of said suspension arm; and a shock absorber positioned between each of said suspension arms and said subframe rail.
- 11. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 wherein each of said suspension arms are semi-trailing arms, and said spindle is bolted on each of said suspension arms between said first end and said second end.
- 12. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 wherein said airbags are attached to said subframe rails by an airbag bracket.
- 13. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 wherein said airbags are located on a side of said spindle opposite to said pivot axis.
- 14. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 wherein said shocks absorbers are positioned approximately over said spindle.
- 15. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 further including a drive line which transfers rotational drive from a transmission to a carrier housing secured to said lateral support, and a carden shaft that transfers rotational drive from said carrier housing to a spindle bolted on each of said suspension arms.
- 16. The suspension system as recited in claim 10 wherein said carrier housing is secured to said lateral support by visco-elastic mounts.
