- 16. The suture lock according to claim 15 further having an entrance opening and an exit opening located at opposite ends of said channel, said entrance and exit openings being of sufficient dimensions to slidably receive said suture thread.
- 17. The suture lock according to claim 16 wherein said entrance opening, exit opening, and said spine are longitudinally axially aligned.
- 18. The suture lock according to claim 17 wherein said entrance opening, exit opening, and said spine are aligned centrally of said body.
- 19. The suture lock according to claim 15 wherein said bifurcated sections of said channel taper inwardly toward said spine.
- 20. The suture lock according to claim 15 wherein said body has front end and a rear end, said front end and said rear end having tabs for guiding said suture thread through said suture lock.
- 21. The suture lock according to claim 15, wherein said plurality of converging serrated teeth are angled such that a substantially greater tension is required to slide a suture across the teeth in one direction as opposed to the other.
- 22. The suture lock according to claim 15, wherein said suture lock is comprised of a material that naturally dissolves within the human body.
- 23. The suture lock according to claim 15 wherein said suture may be unobstructedly placed within said channel.
- 24. The suture lock according to claim 15 whereby said suture thread is tensioned to a pre-determined tension, said tension being substantially evenly distributed through segments of said suture thread adjacent said suture lock.
- 25. The suture lock according to claim 15 whereby said suture lock bridges an interface of sutured tissue substantially parallel to said interface.
- 26. A one-piece suture lock to be used with a suture thread, said suture lock comprising:
at least one passageway for receiving a suture thread, said passageway having at least a portion of its length having a longitudinal side opening arranged to slidably receive at least an equivalent length of said suture thread, and further said passageway having an entrance opening and an exit opening at opposite ends thereof, said entrance opening and exit opening being of sufficient dimensions to slidably receive said suture; and said passageway being tapered inwardly and including an interior surface having inwardly converging teeth.
- 27. The suture lock according to claim 26, further including two passageways wherein said passageways are substantially parallel to each other.
- 28. The suture lock according to claim 26, wherein said suture lock is comprised of a material that naturally dissolves within the human body.
- 29. The suture lock according to claim 26, further including a front end and a rear end, said front end and said rear end having tabs for guiding said suture thread through said suture lock.
- 30. The suture lock according to claim 26 whereby said suture thread is tensioned to a pre-determined tension, said tension being substantially evenly distributed through segments of said suture thread adjacent said suture lock.
- 31. The suture lock according to claim 26 whereby said suture lock bridges an interface of sutured tissue substantially parallel to said interface.
- 32. A suture lock used with a suture thread, said suture lock comprising:
a first section; a second section being slidably connected to said first section; a channel formed between said first section and said second section, said channel being slidably adjustable between a first position and a second position, said suture being movable in said channel when said channel is in said first position, said suture being secured in said channel when said channel is in said second position; means for retaining said first section and said second section relative to one another.
