Claims
- 1. A switch assembly comprising:
a first switch portion mounting a first contact; a first switch engagement member extending from said first switch portion engageable with an airbag module; a second switch portion movably engageable with said first switch portion, said second switch portion mounting a second contact corresponding to said first contact; and a second switch engagement member extending from said second switch portion engageable with a steering wheel hub.
- 2. The switch assembly according to claim 1 further comprising a biasing member to bias said first switch portion relative to said second switch portion.
- 3. The switch assembly according to claim 2 wherein said biasing member includes a coil spring.
- 4. The switch assembly according to claim 2 wherein said first switch engagement member includes a substantially hook shaped engagement member engageable with the airbag module.
- 5. The switch assembly according to claim 1 wherein said first engagement member includes a substantially hook shaped engagement member engageable with a substantially hook shaped member extending from the airbag module.
- 6. The switch assembly according to claim 1 wherein said second switch engagement member includes a substantially cylindrical shaped engagement member having an extended portion, said substantially cylindrical shaped engagement member engageable with the steering wheel hub.
- 7. The switch assembly according to claim 1 wherein said second switch engagement member includes a substantially cylindrical shaped engagement member having an extended portion, said substantially cylindrical shaped engagement member engageable with an aperture defined by the steering wheel hub.
- 8. The switch assembly according to claim 1 wherein said first switch portion includes a first hook and said second switch portion includes a second hook, said first and second hook interact to limit movement of said first switch portion relative to said second switch portion.
- 9. A switch assembly comprising:
a first switch portion; a first switch engagement member extending from said first switch portion engageable with an airbag module; a second switch portion movably engageable with said first switch portion; a second switch engagement member extending from said second switch portion engageable with a steering wheel hub; and a biasing member mounted between said first switch portion and said second switch portion to bias said first switch portion relative to said second switch portion, said biasing member including a first contact and a second contact movable relative to said first contact.
- 10. The switch assembly according to claim 9 further comprising a first electrical connection extending from said first contact and a second electrical connection extending from said second contact.
- 11. The switch assembly according to claim 10 further comprising a plurality of switch assemblies electrically connected to said first electrical connection and said second electrical connection.
- 12. The switch assembly according to claim 11 wherein said plurality of switch assemblies are connected in parallel.
- 13. The switch assembly according to claim 11 further comprising a flexible casing including said first electrical connection and said second electrical connection molded therewith.
- 14. The switch assembly according to claim 9 wherein said first switch engagement member includes a substantially hook shaped engagement member engageable with a substantially hook shaped member extending from the airbag module.
- 15. The switch assembly according to claim 9 wherein said second engagement member includes a substantially pin shaped engagement member having an extended portion, said substantially pin shaped engagement member engageable with an aperture defined by the steering wheel hub.
- 16. A switch assembly comprising:
a switch cap engageable with an airbag module a switch connector having an extension portion made from an electrical conduction material a switch base having a switch base engagement member for securing the switch base to the steering wheel hub and a contour portion extending in an opposite direction as the switch base engagement member, the switch base has a first metal wire insulated from a second wire.
- 17. The switch assembly according to claim 16 wherein the switch cap has an aperture for receiving the contour portion of the switch base, the switch connector has an aperture for receiving the contour portion of the switch base.
- 18. The switch assembly according to claim 16 further comprising a biasing member to bias the switch cap from the switch connector wherein the biasing member is disposed between the switch cap and the switch connector.
- 19. The switch assembly according to claim 16 wherein the switch cap is engageable with an airbag cover of the airbag module.
- 20. The switch assembly according to claim 18 wherein the switch connector is designed so that the extension portion is capable of bending in the direction of the switch base.
