- 6. The handle of claim 1 wherein the first and second pieces together form an outline at the first end which is grip-shaped to accommodate the operator's hand.
- 7. The handle of claim 1 wherein one of the pieces includes an aperture adapted to accommodate a locking device therethrough.
- 8. The handle of claim 1 wherein the first end of the first piece is substantially the same width compared to the second piece whereby only one of the pieces is visible when viewed perpendicular to the width of the pieces.
- 9. A safety handle for indicating the open-close status of contacts in an electrical distribution device and for operating a switch mechanism thereof, the handle comprising:
- a first piece having an elongated shape with two ends, the first end adapted to be manually controlled by an operator and having a mounting surface, the opposite end having means for securing the handle to the switch mechanism, the first piece being made of a first color material;
- a second piece having a complimentary shape for abutting the mounting surface of the first piece at least near the first end, the second piece being made of a second color material, the second color of the complimentary shape blocking visibility of the first color of the first piece when viewed perpendicular to the width of the handle to indicate one condition of the open-close status of the switch mechanism, the first color of the first piece blocking visibility of the second color of the second piece to indicate the opposite condition of the open-close status of the switch mechanism when the handle is rotated to change conditions of the switch mechanism; and
- means for fastening the first and second pieces to abut the mounting surface thereof.
- 10. The handle of claim 9 wherein the fastening means includes:
- at least one hole through one of the pieces;
- a cylinder integrally formed in the other piece corresponding to the hole; and
- a fastener having a threaded end for engaging the cylinder and retaining the hole on the other end.
- 11. The handle of claim 9 wherein the fastening means includes:
- a plurality of undercut prongs integrally formed with and outwardly upstanding from one of the pieces near the mating surface, each prong having an undercut between the mating surface and the end of the prong; and,
- a plurality of edges defining a cut away integrally formed with the other piece, the plurality of edges respectively associated with the plurality of prongs, each prong retaining the associated edge therewith so that the first and second pieces are fastened together.
- 12. The handle of claim 9 wherein the fastening means includes:
- a projection integrally formed with and outwardly upstanding from one of the pieces near the mating surface; and
- an indentation integrally formed with the other piece, the indentation mating with the projection to form a press-fit therewith so that the first and second pieces are fastened together.
- 13. The handle of claim 9 wherein the fastening means includes:
- at least one fastener integrally formed with one of the pieces near the mounting surface; and
- a corresponding fastener integrally formed with the other piece to engage the integrally formed fastener.
- 14. The handle of claim 9 wherein the first piece includes an interior space defined by the mounting surface, the interior space having at least one reinforcing rib extending across the width of the interior space, the reinforcing rib having a cylinder formed therewith for engaging the fastening means.
- 15. A safety handle for indicating the open-close status of contacts in an electrical distribution device and for operating switch mechanism thereof, the handle comprising:
- a first piece having an elongated shape with two ends, the first end adapted to be manually controlled by an operator and having a mounting surface, the opposite end having means for securing the handle to the switch mechanism;
- a second piece having a complimentary shape for abutting the mounting surface of the first piece at least near the first end; and
- means for fastening the first and second pieces, the fastening means integrally formed with the mounting surface of the first piece and the complimentary shape of the second piece, the fastening means being positioned entirely between the mounting surface of the first and second pieces and not extended beyond the shape of the pieces when fastened together.
- 16. The handle of claim 15 wherein the fastening means includes:
- a plurality of undercut prongs integrally formed with and outwardly upstanding from one of the pieces near the mating surface, each prong having an undercut between the mating surface and the end prong; and,
