Claims
- 1. An adjustable height work station, wherein the height of said work station is adjustable from a seated work level through a standing work level, comprising:
a base structure; a work area having a substantially planar surface; and a lift arm, wherein said lift arm has a first end and a second end, and wherein said first end is pivotally secured to said base structure and said second end is pivotally secured to said work area, wherein said first end and said second end are pivotable through a range of motion to raise and lower said work area between a seated work level and a lifted work level while maintaining said planar surface in a substantially horizontal position throughout said range of motion.
- 2. The adjustable height work station of claim 1, further comprising a follower arm that is substantially parallel to said lift arm, and has a first end pivotally secured to said base structure and a second end pivotally secured to said work area.
- 3. The adjustable height work station of claim 1, further comprising an air cylinder.
- 4. The adjustable height work station of claim 3, wherein said air cylinder has a first end that is fixedly secured to said base structure and a second end that is fixedly secured to said work area.
- 5. The adjustable height work station of claim 3, wherein said air cylinder assists said lift arm in raising said work area from said seated level through said lifted work level.
- 6. The adjustable height work station of claim 5, wherein said air cylinder assists said lift arm in raising said work area between said seated level and said lifted work level.
- 7. The adjustable height work station of claim 1, further comprising a second work area, wherein said second work area has an adjustable depth position relative to a depth position of said work area.
- 8. The adjustable height work station of claim 1, further comprising a second work area, wherein said second work area is angularly adjustable.
- 9. The adjustable height work station of claim 1, further comprising a handle, wherein said handle is operably coupled to said lift arm.
- 10. An adjustable height work station, wherein the height of said work station is adjustable between a seated work level and a lifted work level, comprising:
support means for supporting a lifting means; work means for providing a planar work surface area; and lifting means for lifting said work means between a seated work level and a lifted work level and for maintaining said work means in a substantially horizontal orientation when said work means is transitioned from said seated work level and through said standing work level.
- 11. The adjustable height work station of claim 10, further comprising a second lift means, said second lift means for operating in conjunction with said lifting means for lifting said work means between a seated work level and a lifted work level and for maintaining said work means in a substantially horizontal orientation when said work means is transitioned between said seated work level and said lifted work level.
- 12. The adjustable work station of claim 10, further comprising air lift means for providing pneumatic assistance to said lifting means in lifting said work means between a seated work level and a lifted work level.
- 13. The adjustable work station of claim 10, further comprising second work means for providing a planar work surface in addition to said work means.
- 14. The adjustable work station of claim 13, wherein said second work means for providing a planar work surface has an adjustable depth position relative to a depth of said work means.
- 15. The adjustable work station of claim 13, where in said second work means is angularly adjustable.
- 16. The adjustable work station of claim 10, further comprising handle means for pressing against to provide manual assistance to said lifting means in lifting said work means from a seated work level through a standing work level.
- 17. A body positioning system, comprising:
a chair structure; a lower leg support assembly; and a support structure having a plurality of wheels for repositioning said support structure, wherein said support structure supports said chair structure and said lower leg support assembly in a co-linear orientation, and, wherein the supported chair structure, in combination with the supported lower leg support assembly, is adjustable to provide many support positions from sitting through standing.
- 18. The body positioning system of claim 17, wherein said lower leg support assembly is adjustable in distance from said chair structure along the line of said co-linear orientation
- 19. The body positioning system of claim 17, wherein said lower leg support assembly is rotatably adjustable.
- 20. The body positioning system of claim 17, wherein said support structure includes an angled foot plate positioned below said lower leg support assembly.
- 21. The body positioning system of claim 17, wherein said lower leg support assembly includes an actuator selected from a list consisting of an air cylinder, a hydraulic actuator powered by an electric motor and a screw powered by an electric motor.
- 22. The body positioning system of claim 21, wherein said actuator aids in the linear adjustment of said lower leg support assembly relative to said chair support.
- 23. The body positioning system of claim 17, wherein said support structure is linearly adjustable.
- 24. A body positioning system comprising:
body support means for supporting the torso of a human user; lower leg support means for supporting the lower legs of a human user; means for supporting said body support means and said lower leg support means in a co-linear orientation, said means for supporting including rolling repositioning means for repositioning said body positioning system at a desired location, wherein said body support means, in combination with said lower leg support means, is adjustable to provide a seated work position and a lifted work position.
- 25. The body positioning system of claim 24, wherein said lower leg support means is adjustable in distance from said body support means along the line of said co-linear orientation.
- 26. The body positioning system of claim 24, wherein said lower leg support means includes adjustment means for rotatably adjusting said lower leg support means.
- 27. The body positioning system of claim 24, wherein said means for supporting includes angle adjustable foot support means for supporting the feet of a human user.
- 28. The body positioning system of claim 24, wherein said lower leg support means includes actuator assist means for assisting in adjusting said lower leg support means relative said body support means, the actuator assist means being selected from a list consisting of an air cylinder, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator.
- 29. The body positioning system of claim 24, wherein said means for supporting is linearly adjustable.
- 30. A work station system, comprising:
an adjustable height work station, wherein the height of said work station is adjustable from a seated work level through a standing work level, wherein said adjustable height work station comprises:
a base structure; a work area having a substantially planar surface; and a lift arm, wherein said lift arm has a first end and a second end, and wherein said first end is pivotally secured to said base structure and said second end is pivotally secured to said work area, wherein said first end and said second end are pivotable through a range of motion to raise and lower said work area from a seated work level through a standing work level while maintaining said planar surface in a substantially horizontal position throughout said range of motion; and a body positioning system positioned proximate said adjustable height work station, wherein said body positioning system comprises:
a chair structure; lower leg support assembly; and a support structure having a plurality of wheels for repositioning said support structure, wherein said support structure supports said chair structure and said lower leg support assembly in a co-linear orientation, and wherein the supported chair structure, in combination with the supported lower leg support assembly, is adjustable to provided a seated work position through a standing work position corresponding to the seated work level and lifted work level of said adjustable height work station, respectively.
- 31. A work station system, comprising:
an adjustable height work station, wherein the height of said work station is adjustable between a seated work level and an elevated work level, the elevated work level being elevated with respect to the seated work level, wherein said adjustable height work station comprises:
a work surface member supported on a frame by a suspension assembly, the work surface member having a substantially planar work surface; a keyboard surface member operably, shiftably coupled to the work surface member; the suspension assembly being selectively shiftable through a range of motion to raise and lower said planar work surface from a seated work level through a standing work level while maintaining said planar work surface in a substantially horizontal disposition throughout said range of motion; and a body positioning system positionable proximate said adjustable height work station for cooperative interaction therewith for ergonomically positioning a user relative to the planar work surface, wherein said body positioning system comprises:
a base member; a chair assembly operably shiftably coupled to the base member; a lower leg support assembly operably shiftably coupled to the base member; the base member supporting said chair assembly and said lower leg support assembly in a co-linear disposition, and wherein the supported chair structure, in combination with the supported lower leg support assembly, is adjustable to provide a seated work position through a standing work position corresponding to the seated work level through a lifted work level of said adjustable height work station, respectively.
- 32. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes two spaced apart parallelogram support links
- 33. The work station system of claim 32 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly spaced apart parallelogram support links each have a first end pivotally coupled to a work station frame and each have a second end pivotally coupled to the planar work surface.
- 34. The work station system of claim 33 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes a locking actuator assembly, the actuator assembly being operably coupled at a first end to the work station frame and being operably coupled at a second end to the planar work surface, the actuator assembly fixing the planar work surface relative to the work station frame when the actuator assembly is in a locked disposition, the actuator assembly being selected from a list consisting of an air cylinder, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator.
- 35. The work station system of claim 33 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes a work surface actuator assembly for selectively shifting the locking actuator assembly between the locked disposition and an unlocked disposition.
- 36. The work station system of claim 35 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly work surface actuator assembly includes a coaxial concentric cable operably coupled at a first cable end to an actuator handle and operably coupled to a lever at a second cable end, actuation of the actuator handle acting to shift the lever, the lever acting on a shiftable locking rod disposed in the compressed gas spring for selectively shifting the locking compressed gas spring assembly between the locked disposition and an unlocked disposition.
- 37. The work station system of claim 33 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes at least one biasing member, the at least one biasing member exerting an upward directed bias on the planar work surface.
- 38. The work station system of claim 33 wherein the keyboard surface member is selectively elevatable relative to the work surface member planar work surface.
- 39. The work station system of claim 38 wherein the keyboard surface member is selectively elevatable relative to the work surface member planar work surface such that the keyboard surface member may be disposed at a height relative to the work surface member planar work surface
- 40. The work station system of claim 39 wherein the keyboard surface member is operably, shiftably coupled to the work surface member by a keyboard surface suspension, the keyboard surface suspension selectively fixing the disposition of the keyboard surface relative to the work surface member in both height and tilt.
- 41. The work station system of claim 40 wherein the keyboard surface suspension includes a single locking member that selectively fixes both the height and the tilt of the keyboard surface relative to the work surface member.
- 42. The work station system of claim 41 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a cam actuator, the cam actuator being shiftable between a disposition locking the single locking member and a disposition unlocking the single locking member.
- 43. The work station system of claim 42 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a manually actuatable actuator operably coupled to the cam actuator for shifting the cam actuator between the locked and unlocked dispositions.
- 44. The work station system of claim 43 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a spring, the spring biasing the single locking member into the locked disposition.
- 45. The work station system of claim 44 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member cam actuator acts to affect the spring bias exerted on the single locking member.
- 46. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the body positioning system base member includes an elongated connector arm, the connector arm being adjustable to affect the distance that the chair assembly is displaced from the lower leg support assembly.
- 47. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the body positioning system base member includes at least one supporting surface engaging wheel.
- 48. The work station system of claim 47 wherein the at least one supporting surface engaging wheel of the body positioning system base member is rotatable in a plane that is substantially parallel to the co-linear disposition of the chair assembly and lower leg support assembly.
- 49. The work station system of claim 47 wherein the at least one supporting surface engaging wheel of the body positioning system base member castors for being rotatable in at least two planes.
- 50. The work station system of claim 47 further including four wheels disposed in pairs, a first pair of wheels being disposed proximate the lower leg support assembly and a second pair of wheels being disposed proximate the chair assembly, the first pair of wheels being rotatable plane that is substantially parallel to the co-linear disposition of the chair assembly and lower leg support assembly and the second pair of wheels castoring for being rotatable in at least two planes.
- 51. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the body positioning system base member includes a foot rest operably adjustably coupled thereto.
- 52. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the chair assembly includes a chair having a seat and a back, a height adjustment assembly for adjusting the height of the chair relative to the base member, and an inclination adjustment assembly for adjusting the inclination of the chair seat relative to the back.
- 53. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the chair assembly chair seat and chair back are operably coupled, the elevation of the chair seat being adjustable in concert with the elevation of the chair back.
- 54. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the chair assembly chair seat and chair back are operably coupled, the inclination of the chair seat being adjustable independent of the chair back.
- 55. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the chair assembly chair back is incrementally adjustable in height relative to the chair seat.
- 56. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the chair assembly chair seat includes a pair of side supports fixedly coupled to the seat and disposed flanking the seat.
- 57. The work station system of claim 56 wherein the chair assembly chair seat side supports each include an actuation trigger disposed thereon, a first actuation trigger for enabling a seat inclination adjustment and a second actuation trigger for enabling a height adjustment of the chair assembly.
- 58. The work station system of claim 56 wherein the chair assembly chair seat includes an arm support operably, shiftably coupled to each of the side supports, the arm support being linearly and rotatably adjustable relative to the respective side support.
- 59. The work station system of claim 58 wherein each arm support is frictionally, rotatably coupled to the respective side support, the arm support being rotatable relative to the side support upon overcoming a certain frictional force.
- 60. The work station system of claim 52 wherein the chair seat and the chair back are operably, shiftably coupled by a multi-bar linkage, the multi-bar linkage effectively decoupling a inclination adjustment of the chair seat from the inclination of the seat back.
- 61. The work station system of claim 60 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back is a parallelogram linkage.
- 62. The work station system of claim 60 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back includes an auxiliary gas spring, the auxiliary gas spring exerting a bias on the chair seat acting to incline the seat relative to a generally horizontal seat disposition.
- 63. The work station system of claim 61 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back is selectively acted upon by the inclination adjustment assembly, the inclination adjustment assembly having a primary gas spring, the primary gas spring being lockable in a selected disposition to fix the inclination of the seat back as desired.
- 64. The work station system of claim 61 wherein the primary gas spring of the inclination adjustment assembly is operably coupled to a first actuation trigger for enabling a seat tilt adjustment, actuation of the actuation trigger acting to unlock the primary gas spring.
- 65. The work station system of claim 64 wherein the primary gas spring of the inclination adjustment assembly has a first end that is operably coupled to a pedestal assembly and a second opposed end that is operably coupled to the chair seat.
- 66. The work station system of claim 64 wherein the chair seat is operably pivotally coupled to the pedestal assembly at a pivot point, the primary gas spring generating a moment about the pivot point when the primary gas spring is unlocked, the moment acting to bias the chair seat into disposition of an increased inclination.
- 67. The work station system of claim 52 wherein the chair assembly includes a pedestal assembly, the pedestal assembly being pivotally, operably coupled to the base member for accommodating swiveling motion of the chair relative to the base member.
- 68. The work station system of claim 67 wherein the chair assembly height adjustment assembly is operably coupled to the pedestal assembly and to the chair, the height adjustment assembly including an actuator selected from a list consisting of a lockable gas cylinder assembly, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator.
- 69. The work station system of claim 68 wherein a lockable gas cylinder of the height adjustment assembly is operably coupled to a second actuation trigger for enabling a seat elevation adjustment, actuation of the second actuation trigger acting to unlock the lockable gas cylinder assembly.
- 70. The work station system of claim 69 wherein the lockable gas cylinder exerts a substantially upward directed bias on the chair when the lockable gas cylinder is in an unlocked disposition.
- 71. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the lower leg support assembly includes a link member operably coupled to the base member and supports a lower leg pad, the lower leg support assembly being adjustable in a plane that includes the co-linear disposition.
- 72. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the lower leg support assembly is adjustable in a plane that is substantially vertical and includes the co-linear disposition.
- 73. The work station system of claim 31 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively adjustable in at least one dimension.
- 74. The work station system of claim 73 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively linearly adjustable.
- 75. The work station system of claim 73 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively rotatably adjustable.
- 76. The work station system of claim 71 wherein the link member of the lower leg support assembly includes a lockable gas spring, the gas spring exerting a rotational bias on the link member when the gas spring is in an unlocked disposition the gas spring acting to urge the link member in a rearward disposition proximate to the chair assembly.
- 77. The work station system of claim 76 wherein the link member of the lower leg support assembly is pivotally coupled to the base member at a first pivot point and the gas spring is pivotally coupled to the base member at a second pivot point, the first and second pivot points being spaced apart.
- 78. The work station system of claim 76 further including an actuator assembly being operably coupled to the lockable gas spring of the link member, the actuator assembly for selectively locking and unlocking the gas spring.
- 79. The work station system of claim 78 wherein the gas spring actuator assembly is disposed in the base member.
- 80. The work station system of claim 78 wherein the gas spring actuator assembly includes a foot pedal, the foot pedal being selectively shiftable between a locked disposition and an unlocked disposition, the foot pedal unlocking the lockable gas spring when in the unlocked disposition.
- 81. The work station system of claim 80 wherein the foot pedal of the gas spring actuator assembly is biased in the locked disposition.
- 82. An adjustable height work station, comprising:
a work surface member supported on a frame by a suspension assembly, the work surface member having a substantially planar work surface; a keyboard surface member operably, shiftably coupled to the work surface member; the suspension assembly being selectively shiftable through a range of motion to raise and lower said planar work surface from a seated work level through a standing work level while maintaining said planar work surface in a substantially horizontal disposition throughout said range of motion; wherein the height of said work station is adjustable from a seated work level through an elevated work level, the elevated work level being elevated with respect to the seated work level.
- 83. The adjustable height work station of claim 82 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes two spaced apart parallelogram support links
- 84. The adjustable height work station of claim 83 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly spaced apart parallelogram support links each have a first end pivotally coupled to a work station frame and each have a second end pivotally coupled to the planar work surface.
- 85. The adjustable height work station of claim 84 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes an actuator assembly selected from a list consisting of a locking compressed gas spring assembly, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator, the actuator assembly being operably coupled at a first end to the work station frame and being operably coupled at a second end to the planar work surface, the actuator assembly fixing the planar work surface relative to the work station frame when the actuator assembly is in a locked disposition.
- 86. The adjustable height work station of claim 84 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes a work surface actuator assembly for selectively shifting a locking compressed gas spring assembly between a locked disposition and an unlocked disposition.
- 87. The adjustable height work station of claim 86 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly work surface actuator assembly includes a coaxial concentric cable operably coupled at a first cable end to an actuator handle and operably coupled to a lever at a second cable end, actuation of the actuator handle acting to shift the lever, the lever acting on a shiftable locking rod disposed in the compressed gas spring for selectively shifting the locking compressed gas spring assembly between the locked disposition and an unlocked disposition.
- 88. The adjustable height work station of claim 84 wherein the adjustable height work station suspension assembly includes at least one gas cylinder, the at least one gas cylinder exerting an upward directed bias on the planar work surface.
- 89. The adjustable height work station of claim 84 wherein the keyboard surface member is selectively elevatable relative to the work surface member planar work surface.
- 90. The adjustable height work station of claim 89 wherein the keyboard surface member is selectively elevatable relative to the work surface member planar work surface such that the keyboard surface member may be disposed at a height relative to the work surface member planar work surface
- 91. The adjustable height work station of claim 90 wherein the keyboard surface member is operably, shiftably coupled to the work surface member by a keyboard surface suspension, the keyboard surface suspension selectively fixing the disposition of the keyboard surface relative to the work surface member in both height and tilt.
- 92. The adjustable height work station of claim 91 wherein the keyboard surface suspension includes a single locking member that selectively fixes both the height and the tilt of the keyboard surface relative to the work surface member.
- 93. The adjustable height work station of claim 92 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a cam actuator, the cam actuator being shiftable between a disposition locking the single locking member and a disposition unlocking the single locking member.
- 94. The adjustable height work station of claim 93 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a manually actuatable actuator operably coupled to the cam actuator for shifting the cam actuator between the locked and unlocked dispositions.
- 95. The adjustable height work station of claim 94 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member includes a spring, the spring biasing the single locking member into the locked disposition.
- 96. The adjustable height work station of claim 95 wherein the keyboard surface suspension single locking member cam actuator acts to affect the spring bias exerted on the single locking member.
- 97. A body positioning system, comprising:
a base member; a chair assembly operably shiftably coupled to the base member; a lower leg support assembly operably shiftably coupled to the base member; the base member supporting said chair assembly and said lower leg support assembly in a co-linear disposition, and wherein the supported chair structure, in combination with the supported lower leg support assembly, is adjustable to provide a seated work position through a standing work position corresponding to the seated work level through a standing work level of said adjustable height work station, respectively.
- 98. The body positioning system of claim 97 being positionable relative to an adjustable height work station for cooperative interaction therewith for ergonomically positioning a user relative to a work station planar work surface.
- 99. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the body positioning system base member includes an elongate connector arm, the connector arm being adjustable to affect the distance that the chair assembly is displaced from the lower leg support assembly.
- 100. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the body positioning system base member includes at least one supporting surface engaging wheel.
- 101. The body positioning system of claim 100 wherein the at least one supporting surface engaging wheel of the body positioning system base member is rotatable in a plane that is substantially parallel to the co-linear disposition of the chair assembly and lower leg support assembly.
- 102. The body positioning system of claim 100 wherein the at least one supporting surface engaging wheel of the body positioning system base member castors for being rotatable in at least two planes.
- 103. The body positioning system of claim 100 further including four wheels disposed in pairs, a first pair of wheels being disposed proximate the lower leg support assembly and a second pair of wheels being disposed proximate the chair assembly, the first pair of wheels being rotatable plane that is substantially parallel to the co-linear disposition of the chair assembly and lower leg support assembly and the second pair of wheels castoring for being rotatable in at least two planes.
- 104. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the body positioning system base member includes an adjustable foot rest fixedly coupled thereto.
- 105. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair assembly includes a chair having a seat and a back, a height adjustment assembly for adjusting the height of the chair relative to the base member, and an inclination adjustment assembly for adjusting the inclination of the chair seat and back.
- 106. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair assembly chair seat and chair back are operably coupled, the elevation of the chair seat being adjustable in concert with the elevation of the chair back.
- 107. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair assembly chair seat and chair back are operably coupled, the inclination of the chair seat being adjustable independent of the chair back.
- 108. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair assembly chair back is incrementally adjustable in height relative to the chair seat.
- 109. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair assembly chair seat includes a pair of side supports fixedly coupled to the seat and disposed flanking the seat.
- 110. The body positioning system of claim 109 wherein the chair assembly chair seat side supports each include an actuation trigger disposed thereon, a first actuation trigger for enabling a seat tilt adjustment and a second actuation trigger for enabling a height adjustment of the chair assembly.
- 111. The body positioning system of claim 109 wherein the chair assembly chair seat includes an arm support operably, shiftably coupled to each of the side supports, the arm support being linearly and rotatably adjustable relative to the respective side support.
- 112. The body positioning system of claim 111 wherein each arm support includes a curvilinear support surface adapted for supporting the arm of a user.
- 113. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the chair seat and the chair back are operably, shiftably coupled by a multi-bar linkage, the mulit-bar linkage effectively decoupling a tilt adjustment of the chair seat from the tilt of the seat back.
- 114. The body positioning system of claim 113 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back is a parallelogram linkage.
- 115. The body positioning system of claim 113 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back includes an auxiliary gas spring, the auxiliary gas spring exerting a bias on the chair seat acting to tilt the seat relative from a generally vertical seat disposition.
- 116. The body positioning system of claim 113 wherein the multi-bar linkage linking the chair seat and the chair back is selectively acted upon by the inclination adjustment assembly, the inclination adjustment assembly having a primary gas spring, the primary gas spring being lockable in a selected disposition to fix the tilt of the seat as desired.
- 117. The body positioning system of claim 113 wherein the primary gas spring of the inclination adjustment assembly is operably coupled to a first actuation trigger for enabling a seat tilt adjustment, actuation of the actuation trigger acting to unlock the primary gas spring.
- 118. The body positioning system of claim 117 wherein the primary gas spring of the inclination adjustment assembly has a first end that is operably coupled to a pedestal assembly and a second opposed end that is operably coupled to the chair seat.
- 119. The body positioning system of claim 117 wherein the chair seat is operably pivotally coupled to the pedestal assembly at a pivot point, the primary gas spring generating a moment about the pivot point when the primary gas spring is unlocked, the moment acting to bias the chair seat into an increased tilt disposition.
- 120. The body positioning system of claim 103 wherein the chair assembly includes a pedestal assembly, the pedestal assembly being pivotally, operably coupled to the base member for accommodating swiveling motion of the chair relative to the base member.
- 121. The body positioning system of claim 120 wherein the chair assembly height adjustment assembly is operably coupled to the pedestal assembly and to the chair, the height adjustment assembly including a lockable gas cylinder assembly.
- 122. The body positioning system of claim 121 wherein the lockable gas cylinder of the height adjustment assembly is operably coupled to a second actuation trigger for enabling a seat elevation adjustment, actuation of the second actuation trigger acting to unlock the lockable gas cylinder assembly.
- 123. The body positioning system of claim 122 wherein the lockable gas cylinder exerts a substantially upward directed bias on the chair when the lockable gas cylinder is in an unlocked disposition.
- 124. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the lower leg support assembly includes a link member operably coupled to the base member and supports a lower leg pad, the lower leg support assembly being adjustable in a plane that includes the co-linear disposition.
- 125. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the lower leg support assembly is adjustable in a plane that is substantially vertical and includes the co-linear disposition.
- 126. The body positioning system of claim 97 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively adjustable in at least one dimension.
- 127. The body positioning system of claim 126 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively linearly adjustable.
- 128. The body positioning system of claim 126 wherein the lower leg pad of the lower leg support assembly is selectively rotatably adjustable.
- 129. The body positioning system of claim 124 wherein the link member of the lower leg support assembly includes a lockable gas spring, the gas spring exerting a rotational bias on the link member when the gas spring is in an unlocked disposition that acts to urge the link member in a rearward disposition proximate the chair assembly.
- 130. The body positioning system of claim 129 wherein the link member of the lower leg support assembly is pivotally coupled to the base member at a first pivot point and the gas spring is pivotally coupled to the base member at a second pivot point, the first and second pivot points being spaced apart.
- 131. The body positioning system of claim 129 further including an actuator assembly being operably coupled to the lockable gas spring of the link member, the actuator assembly for selectively locking and unlocking the gas spring.
- 132. The body positioning system of claim 131 wherein the gas spring actuator assembly is disposed in the base member.
- 133. The body positioning system of claim 131 wherein the gas spring actuator assembly includes a foot actuator, the foot actuator being selectively shiftable between a locked disposition and an unlocked disposition, the foot pedal unlocking the lockable gas spring when in the unlocked disposition.
- 134. The body positioning system of claim 133 wherein the foot actuator of the gas spring actuator assembly is biased in the locked disposition.
- 135. A body positioning system, comprising:
a base assembly; a foot support member operably coupled to the base assembly; a lower leg support member operably coupled to the base assembly; a chair assembly operably coupled to the base assembly, the chair assembly having a seat member, a back member and a pair of arm support members; wherein the foot support member, the lower leg support member, the seat member, the back member, and the pair of arm support members are cooperatively shiftable, each of said members being shiftable in at least one plane for cooperatively supporting a user in a continuum of positions ranging from a seated position where the bulk of the user's mass is supportable on the seat member to a substantially erect position where the bulk of the user's mass is distributable on the lower leg support member and the foot support member.
- 136. The body positioning system of claim 135 being positionable relative to an adjustable height work station for cooperative interaction therewith for ergonomically positioning a user relative to a work station planar work surface.
- 137. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the body positioning system base member includes an elongate connector arm, the connector arm being adjustable to affect the distance that the chair assembly is displaced from the lower leg support assembly.
- 138. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the chair assembly includes a height adjustment assembly for adjusting the height of the chair assembly relative to the base assembly, and an inclination adjustment assembly for adjusting the inclination of the seat member.
- 139. The body positioning system of claim 138 wherein the chair assembly seat member and back member are operably coupled, the elevation of the seat member being adjustable in concert with the elevation of the back member.
- 140. The body positioning system of claim 139 wherein the inclination of the seat member is adjustable independent of the back member.
- 141. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the foot support member is selectively rotatable relative to the base assembly for adjusting the inclination of the foot support member.
- 142. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the lower leg support member is pivotable relative to the base assembly.
- 143. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the arm support members of the chair assembly each include a frictional coupling, the frictional coupling providing for repositioning the arm support by overcoming a certain frictional force.
- 144. The body positioning system of claim 143 wherein the arm support members of the chair assembly each include a manually actuatable lock mechanism, unlocking the lock mechanism enabling translatably and rotationally repositioning of the respective arm support member.
- 145. The body positioning system of claim 135 wherein the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and a chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back each include an actuator for respectively shifting the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and the chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back, each of the respective actuators being selected from a list consisting of a gas spring, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator.
- 146. The body positioning system of claim 145 further including a control system for controlling shifting of each of the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and a chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back, the control system having a plurality of controllers, a respective controller being operably communicatively coupled to the respective lower leg support member, chair assembly, and chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back.
- 147. The body positioning system of claim 146 wherein the control system includes a processor, the processor being operably communicatively coupled to at least one selected powered actuator for controlling the shifting of the lower leg support member, chair assembly, and chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back as desired.
- 148. A method of user support on a body positioning system, comprising:
providing a base assembly; operably coupling a foot support member to the base assembly; operably shiftably coupling a lower leg support member to the base assembly; operably shiftably coupling a chair assembly to the base assembly, the chair assembly having a seat member, a back member and a pair of arm support members; supporting a user's mass on the foot support member, the lower leg support member, the seat member, the back member, and the pair of arm support members; each of said members being shiftable in at least one plane for cooperatively supporting a user in a continuum of positions ranging from a seated position where the bulk of the user's mass is supportable on the seat member to a substantially erect position where the bulk of the user's mass is distributable on the lower leg support member and the foot support member.
- 149. The user support method of claim 148 including positioning an adjustable height work station relative to the body positioning system for cooperative interaction therewith for ergonomically positioning a user relative to a work station planar work surface.
- 150. The user support method of claim 148 including adjustably coupling the foot support member and the lower leg support member to the chair assembly for selectively affecting the distance that the chair assembly is displaced from the foot support assembly and the lower leg-support assembly.
- 151. The user support method of claim 148 including providing height adjustability to the chair assembly for adjusting the height of the chair assembly relative to the base assembly, and providing inclination adjustability assembly for adjusting the inclination of the seat member.
- 152. The user support method of claim 151 including operably coupling the chair assembly seat member and back member, the elevation of the seat member thereby being adjustable in concert with the elevation of the back member.
- 153. The user support method of claim 152 including selectively varying the inclination of the seat member independent of the back member.
- 154. The user support method of claim 148 including rotatably coupling the foot support member to the base assembly for selectively adjusting the inclination of the foot support member.
- 155. The user support method of claim 148 including rotatably coupling the lower leg support member to the base assembly for selective pivotable adjustment of the lower leg support member relative to the base assembly.
- 156. The user support method of claim 148 including providing a frictional coupling for the arm support members of the chair assembly, the frictional coupling providing for repositioning the arm support by overcoming a certain frictional force.
- 157. The user support method of claim 156 including manually actuatably locking the arm support members of the chair assembly, unlocking the lock mechanism enabling translatably and rotationally repositioning of the respective arm support member.
- 158. The user support method of claim 148 including controlling the shifting of the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and a chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back each by means of an actuator for respectively shifting the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and the chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back, each of the respective actuators being selected from a list consisting of a gas spring, a powered hydraulic actuator, and a powered mechanical actuator.
- 159. The user support method of claim 148 further including controlling shifting of each of the lower leg support member, the chair assembly, and a chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back by means of a control system, providing the control system with a plurality of controllers, operably communicatively coupling a respective controller to the respective lower leg support member, chair assembly, and chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back.
- 160. The user support method of claim 159 including providing a processor, operably communicatively coupling the processor to at least one selected powered actuator for controlling the shifting of the lower leg support member, chair assembly, and chair unit comprising the seat operably coupled to the back as desired.
