Claims
- 1. An insecticidal composition comprising synergistic insecticidally effective amounts of
- a) one or more N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazines of formula: ##STR2## wherein: i) R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, and R.sup.5 are independently hydrogen, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, or halo; and
- ii) R.sup.6 is a (C.sub.4 -C.sub.10)alkyl group containing a tertiary carbon; and
- b) diethyl maleate; and
- wherein the ratio of diethylmaleate to N,N'-dibenzoly-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazines is from 0.01:1 to 100:1 by weight.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein:
- a) R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are independently hydrogen, methyl, ethyl; methoxy, ethoxy; bromo, chloro, or fluoro;
- b) R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently hydrogen, chloro, or methyl; and
- c) R.sup.6 is a tert-(C.sub.4 -C.sub.6)alkyl.
- 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein:
- a) R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are independently hydrogen, methoxy, ethoxy, methyl, ethyl, or chloro;
- b) R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently chloro or methyl; and
- c) R.sup.6 is tert-butyl.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the combination of R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 is:
- a) R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is methoxy or ethoxy, and R.sup.3 is hydrogen; or
- b) R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen and R.sup.3 is chloro or ethyl.
- 5. The composition of claim 1 further comprising one or more agronomically acceptable carriers.
- 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 is methyl, R.sup.2 is methoxy, R.sup.3 is hydrogen, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are both methyl, and R.sup.6 is tertiary butyl.
- 7. The composition of claim 1 wherein the ratio of diethylmaleate to N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazines is from 1:1 to 10:1 by weight.
- 8. A method of controlling insects comprising contacting insects with an insecticidally effective amount of the composition of claim 1.
- 9. The method of claim 8 wherein the composition further comprises one or more agronomically acceptable carriers.
- 10. A method for controlling insects comprising applying one or more compositions of claim 1 to soil or plant foilage where it is absorbed by the plant, translocated to other plant parts and ultimately ingested by insects by means of ingestion of one or more plant parts wherein the total amount of N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazines is from 0.01 Kg. to 10 Kg. of the N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazine per hectare.
- 11. A method for controlling insects comprising foliarly applying one or more compositions of claim 1 to the plants to be freed from insects which ingest one or more of the plant parts wherein the total amount of N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazines is from 0.01 Kg. to 10 Kg. of the N,N'-dibenzoyl-N'-tert-alkyl-hydrazine per hectare.
