Claims
- 1. A method of synthesizing superconducting Bi.sub.1.8 Pb.sub.0.4 Sr.sub.2 Ca.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.x comprising: (a) combining a first precursor mixture of Ca.sub.0.45 Cu0.55O.sub.2 and CaO with a second precursor mixture of Bi.sub.1.8 Pb.sub.0.4 Sr.sub.2 CaCu.sub.2 O.sub.x wherein x is 8 to 9 inclusive and Ca.sub.2 PbO.sub.4, in the amounts necessary to achieve the desired stoichiometry of said superconducting Bi.sub.1.8 Pb.sub.0.4 Sr.sub.2 Ca.sub.2 Cu.sub.3 O.sub.x, to form a homogenous mixture; (b) packing and sealing a silver tube with said homogenous mixture; (c) annealing said silver tube: and (d) drawing said tube to a desired thickness.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said first precursor mixture is made by sol-gel precipitation of CaCO.sub.3 and CuO.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said annealing is accomplished in less than about 200 hours and the temperature is in the range from about 800.degree. C. to about 835.degree. C.
