The present invention relates to a process for the synthesis of diacetyl epoxy glyceryl oleate.
in recent years, plastics industries have been developed rapidly, which promotes economic growth of plastic auxiliaries industries, such as plasticizers, at a rate of an average 10.9% a year. Plasticizers, as functional products added to high molecular polymers to improve plasticity, workability and flexibility of materials, have been widely applied in various plastics products which are durable and easy to shape, such as toys, building materials, auto parts, electronic and medical device components, such as plasma bags, complete infusions, being species of plastics processing auxiliaries of maximum capability and consumption, about 60% of the total output of plastic auxiliaries. Plasticizers are modern plastics industry biggest auxiliary species, for Plastic auxiliaries 60% of total output. At present, there are up to 200 species of plasticizers in the world, each species exhibits respective physical and chemical performances, and different application fields.
Traditional plasticizers have mainly comprised phthalates containing phenyl ring structure, such as dioctyl phthalate (DOR) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). As these plasticizers have been widely used in foods, medical industries, people are paying more and more attention to their toxicity. Foods may cause the phthalates in plastics products to dissolve out and penetrate into the foods during processing, heating, packaging, and filling, and thereby have potential toxicity to human bodies. Therefore, some countries have prohibited or restricted use of the plasticizers in foods and medical field. Recently, with the improvement of environmental protection awareness, plasticizers of plastics products in medical and food packages, commodities, and tops have higher requirements. It is inevitable to replace traditional plasticizers species with green and environmental friendly plasticizers. Epoxy plasticizers, as non-toxic environmental friendly plasticizers, become a focus of global study, mainly including epoxy oil and epoxy fatty acid esters, in which epoxidized soybean oil is the most important and common. It has excellent heat resistance, improved light resistance and low temperature flexibility, low volatility, and no toxicity, and thus is one of green plasticizers widely used in China. However, epoxidized soybean oil exhibits limited compatibility with PVC, and may be exuded from articles when it is used in a large amount (above 15%); when it is used as a stabilizer, color change will take place at high temperature to thereby impact the quality of articles. Therefore, it can be only used as an assistant plasticizer and assistant stabilizer, instead of primary plasticizer of PVC. Epoxy fatty acid esters have excellent lubrication property, compatibility and dispersity, in addition to the advantages of epoxidized oil. For instance, epoxy fatty acid methyl ester is a non-toxic plasticizer used in processing of plastics and rubbers, it has the advantages of excellent lubrication property, compatibility and dispersity, in addition to the advantages of high compatibility with products, low volatility, small migration, improved toughness of articles, non-toxicity, and good light and heat stability of epoxy plant oils as plasticizers and stabilizers. It can be added in an amount of 10-30% in processing of PVC articles.
It has been reported that fully acetylated glycerol monoester and fully acetylated glycerol monoester on 12-hydroxystearic acid have small molecular weight (about 500), higher boiling point (>300° C.) and higher flash point (245° C.), higher flowability and lower viscosity, and can be used as plasticizers of PVC. While epoxy oils have big molecular weight, high viscosity and poor flowability, however, since they contain epoxy group, they have good heat stability and high compatibility with plastics; glycerol triacetate is of small molecule weight, and has a viscosity less than epoxy oils. On the basis of their features and properties in structure, we hope to find epoxy acid esters plasticizers having plasticization effect similar to epoxy oils and lower molecular weight and improved flowability.
