- 7. A method of inhibiting the growth of a proliferating cell comprising contacting said cell with a compound having the formula (I):

- 9. A method of inhibiting the growth of a proliferating cell comprising contacting said cell with a compound having the formula (III):

- 11. A method of inhibiting the growth of a proliferating cell comprising contacting said cell with a compound having the formula (VI):
- 12. The method according to claims 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, wherein the growth inhibition comprises inhibiting mitosis.
- 13. The method according to claims 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, wherein the proliferating cell is a tumor cell.
- 14. A mitotic inhibitor comprising the compound of any of claims 1-6.
- 15. A process for preparing a diazonamide compound comprising the steps of a) A, E and F-ring assembly, b) Heck endocyclization, c) Ring-contracting pinacol rearrangment and d) internal indole arylation via photo-induced electron transfer cyclization.
