- (b) a first connecting member (17), integrally attached to the body member and extending therefrom, for rigidly attaching the body member to the syringe, the first connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the first open end of the passageway with the reservoir, and
- (c) a second connecting member (18), integrally attached to the body member and extending therefrom, for rigidly attaching the body member to the needle, the second connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the second open end of the passageway with the needle.
- 2. A device as claimed in claim 1 in which the first connecting member further comprises a female connecting member having a luer or record taper for engaging a male luer or male record connector extending from the syringe, and the second connecting member further comprises a male connecting member having a luer or record taper for engaging a female luer or female record connector of the needle, wherein the bores in the first and second connecting members are provided in the female and male connecting members, respectively.
- 3. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the passageway has a cross-sectional area which is not more than 5 sq. mm.
- 4. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which a radiation shield is provided to surround the body member and extends the length of the body member.
- 5. A device as claimed in claim 4 in which the radiation shield (27) comprises a cylindrical shield (28), the cylindrical shield being threaded at one end, and clamping means for retaining the cylindrical shield in releasable engagement with the body member, the clamping means comprising a resilient washer (30), and an end cap (32), the end cap having a threaded portion for engaging with the threaded end of the cylindrical shield, and the end cap having a bearing surface opposite one planar surface of the washer, wherein the cylindrical shield has an annular recess (31) provided in the one end of the cylindrical shield for receiving the other planar surface of the washer so that as the end cap is tightened, the washer is compressed longitudinally to extend it radially inwardly to engage the device.
- 6. A device for storing a discrete quantity of liquid for use with a medical syringe (2) and a needle (3), the syringe having a reservoir (5), the device comprising:
- (a) a body member (10) comprising:
- a sleeve (12) having a bore, and
- a core member (11) dimensioned for tightly fitting in the bore of the sleeve, the core member having a helical groove formed around the periphery thereof for defining with the sleeve a helical passageway (15) for storing the discrete quantity of liquid, the passageway having a first open end and a second open end, the first open end being disposed adjacent one end of the body member and the second open end being disposed adjacent the other end of the body member,
- (b) a first connecting member (17) attached to the body member and extending therefrom for attaching the body member to the syringe, the first connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the first open end of the passageway with the reservoir, and
- (c) a second connecting member (18) attached to the body member and extending from the body member for attaching the body member to the needle, the second connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the second open end of the passageway with the needle.
- 7. A syringe comprising:
- (a) a tubular member having a bore extending therethrough and defining a reservoir,
- (b) an end cap at one end of the tubular member for closing the bore,
- (c) a slidable plunger, disposed in the bore of the tubular member so as to seal the bore, for drawing and discharging fluid into and from the reservoir,
- (d) a receiving means mounted on the syringe one of at and adjacent the end cap, said receiving means having a bore formed therein and extending therethrough for communicating with the reservoir, and
- (e) a device for storing a discrete quantity of liquid mounted on the receiving means, the device comprising:
- (1) a body member (10) comprising:
- a sleeve (12) having a bore, and
- a core member (11) dimensioned for tightly fitting in the bore of the sleeve, and the core member having a helical groove formed around the periphery thereof for defining with the sleeve a helical passageway (15) for storing the discrete quantity of liquid, the passageway having a first open end and a second open end, the first open end being disposed adjacent one end of the body member and the second open end being disposed adjacent the other end of the body member,
- (2) a first connecting member (17) attached to body member and extending therefrom for engaging the receiving means, the first connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the first open end of the passageway with the bore in the receiving means, and
- (3) a second connecting member (18) attached to the body member and extending therefrom for attaching a needle to the body member, the second connecting member having a bore therethrough for communicating the second open end of the passageway with the needle.
