Claims
- 1. A tubular prosthesis assembly system comprising:a base; an elongate lead screw rotatably mounted on the base; an elongate support for a helical outer frame component mounted on the base in parallel to the lead screw; a prosthesis assembly mandrel removably mounted on the base in parallel to the lead screw, wherein the prosthesis assembly mandrel and the elongate support are disposed on opposite sides of the lead screw so that a helical outer frame component can pass from the elongate support, over the lead screw, to the prosthesis assembly mandrel; and a driver for synchronously rotating the lead screw and the prosthesis assembly mandrel to transfer a helical outer frame component from said elongate support to said prosthesis assembly mandrel.
- 2. A tubular prosthesis assembly system as in claim 1, wherein the prosthesis assembly mandrel is radially collapsible.
- 3. A tubular prosthesis assembly system as in claim 2, wherein the prosthesis assembly mandrel comprises a collapsible outer shell and an inner support rod, wherein removal of the inner support rod allows the outer shell to collapse to facilitate removal from a completed prosthesis.
- 4. A tubular prosthesis assembly system as in claim 2, wherein the prosthesis assembly mandrel has an outer diameter (when non-collapsed) in the range from 2 mm to 8 mm and a length in the range from 15 cm to 50 cm.
- 5. A tubular prosthesis assembly system as in claim 1, wherein the elongate support is removably attached to the base.
- 6. A prosthesis assembly mandrel comprising:an elongate cylindrical mandrel, said mandrel being radially collapsible; and a helical inner frame component disposed over the elongate cylindrical mandrel.
- 7. A prosthesis assembly mandrel as in claim 6, wherein the elongate cylindrical mandrel comprises:an inner support rod; and an outer collapsible shell disposed over the inner support rod, wherein the inner support rod may be axially withdrawn from the outer shell to permit radial collapse of the shell.
- 8. A prosthesis assembly mandrel as in claim 6, wherein the mandrel has an outer diameter (when non-collapsed) in the range from 2 mm to 8 mm and a length in the range from 15 cm to 50 cm.
