Claims
- 1. A method of collecting information to facilitate enrollment in an electronic funds transfer program, comprising the steps of:
soliciting a plurality of entities to participate in the electronic funds transfer program; directing the plurality of entities to an enrollment process that is accessible via the Internet; obtaining profile information from at least one entity that accesses the enrollment process; enrolling the entity in the electronic funds transfer program; initiating, on a periodic basis, automatic electronic funds transfer between the entity and another party; and maintaining a database that comprises the profile information.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of entities comprise at least one of payees and payors.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the electronic funds transfer program comprises at least one of automated clearing house transaction and credit card transactions.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the soliciting step comprises sending at least one of a letter via post and an electronic message.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one of a letter via post and an electronic message includes a personal identification number.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the enrollment process is accessed via a web browser.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the profile information comprises at least one of name, address, email address, telephone number, personal identification number, payment type, payment frequency, banking information and credit card information.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of enrolling comprises validating the profile information.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the step of validating comprises at least one of generating a prenotification request and generating an authorization request.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein the entity is a vendor and the another party is a purchaser of goods or services from the vendor.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the entity is a donor and the another party is a charitable organization.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment process.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 14. The method of claim 12, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 15. The method of claim 1, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment process on behalf of a client.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 17. The method of claim 15, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the entity enrolls for at least one of a collection and a disbursement electronic funds transfer program.
- 19. The method of claim 1, further comprising collecting marketing information from the entity.
- 20. The method of claim 1, further comprising requiring acceptance of legal terms before the entity is enrolled.
- 21. A method of enrolling participants in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising the steps of:
registering a client that has an interest in promoting electronic payment techniques to entities associated with the client; offering a web-enabled enrollment utility via which the entities can enroll in the EFT program; gathering profile information about the entities via the web-enabled enrollment utility; authenticating at least a portion of the profile information before finalizing an enrollment process; and initiating electronic payment to either credit or debit an account belonging to the client based on the profile information.
- 22. The method of claim 21, wherein the entities comprise at least one of payees and payors.
- 23. The method of claim 21, wherein the electronic payment techniques comprises at least one of automated clearing house transaction and credit card transactions.
- 24. The method of claim 21, wherein the offering step comprises sending at least one of a letter via post and an electronic message.
- 25. The method of claim 24, wherein the at least one of a letter via post and an electronic message includes a personal identification number.
- 26. The method of claim 22, wherein the profile information comprises at least one of name, address, email address, telephone number, personal identification number, payment type, payment frequency, banking information and credit card information.
- 27. The method of claim 21, wherein the step of authenticating comprises at least one of generating a prenotification request and generating an authorization request.
- 28. The method of claim 21, wherein the entities are vendors and the client is a purchaser of goods or services from the vendor.
- 29. The method of claim 21, wherein the entities are donors and the client is a charitable organization.
- 30. The method of claim 21, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment utility.
- 31. The method of claim 30, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 32. The method of claim 31, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 33. The method of claim 21, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment utility on behalf of a client.
- 34. The method of claim 33, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 35. The method of claim 34, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 36. The method of claim 21, wherein the entities enroll for at least one of a collection and a disbursement EFT program.
- 37. The method of claim 21, further comprising collecting marketing information from the entities.
- 38. The method of claim 21, further comprising requiring acceptance of legal terms before finalizing the enrollment process.
- 39. A method of enrolling enrollees in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising the steps of:
sending a solicitation to the enrollee, the solicitation including a unique identification code and an offer to enroll in the EFT program; providing a web-enabled enrollment process via which the enrollee enrolls in the EFT program; collecting profile information from the enrollee via the web-enabled enrollment process; enrolling the enrollee in the EFT program; and initiating automatic periodic electronic payments based on the profile information.
- 40. The method of claim 39, further comprising validating at least a portion of the profile information.
- 41. The method of claim 40, wherein the step of validating comprises batch processing.
- 42. The method of claim 39, further comprising updating the profile information.
- 43. The method of claim 39, wherein the enrollee is at least one of a vendor and a donor.
- 44. The method of claim 39, wherein a trusted third party performs the method on behalf of a client.
- 45. The method of claim 44, wherein the trusted third party is a bank.
- 46. A method of enrolling in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising the steps of:
accessing a web site on the Internet, the web site comprising an EFT program enrollment utility; providing profile information via the web site; indicating an amount of funds to be transferred and a frequency of payment; and agreeing to a set of legal terms required by a party that operates the EFT program.
- 47. The method of claim 46, further comprising updating the profile information.
- 48. The method of claim 46, further comprising providing marketing information.
- 49. The method of claim 46, wherein the profile information comprises at least one of name, address, email address, telephone number, personal identification number, payment type, banking information and credit card information.
- 50. The method of claim 46, further comprising enrolling in a plurality of EFT programs.
- 51. The method of claim 50, wherein at least a portion of the profile information is used to enroll in the plurality of EFT programs without having to again provide said portion of profile information via the web site.
- 52. A method of enrolling enrollees in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising the steps of:
providing a web site on the Internet, the web site comprising an EFT program enrollment utility; receiving, via the web site, profile information; noting an amount of funds to be transferred and a frequency of payment; and automatically transferring the amount funds at the noted frequency.
- 53. The method of claim 52, wherein the web site is viewed with a browser.
- 54. The method of claim 52, further comprising validating at least a portion of the profile information at or proximate a time of receipt thereof.
- 55. The method of claim 54, wherein the step of validating comprises at least one of a prenotification process and an authorization process.
- 56. The method of claim 52, wherein a trusted third party operates the web site and stores the profile information.
- 57. The method of claim 56, wherein the trusted third party is a financial institution.
- 58. The method of claim 56, wherein the trusted third party is a bank.
- 59. A system for enrolling participants in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising:
means for registering a client that has an interest in promoting electronic payment techniques to entities associated with the client; a web server offering a web-enabled enrollment utility via which the entities can enroll in the EFT program; means for gathering profile information about the entities via the web-server and web-enabled enrollment utility; means for authenticating at least a portion of the profile information before finalizing an enrollment process; and means for initiating electronic payment to either credit or debit an account belonging to the client based on the profile information.
- 60. The system of claim 59, wherein the entities comprise at least one of vendors and donors.
- 61. The system of claim 59, wherein the electronic payment techniques comprises at least one of automated clearing house transaction and credit card transactions.
- 62. The system of claim 59, wherein the means for registering comprises at least one of a letter and an electronic message.
- 63. The system of claim 62, wherein the at least one of a letter and an electronic message includes a personal identification number.
- 64. The system of claim 59, wherein the profile information comprises at least one of name, address, email address, telephone number, personal identification number, payment type, payment frequency, banking information and credit card information.
- 65. The system of claim 59, wherein the means for authenticating comprises at least one of a prenotification request and an authorization request.
- 66. The system of claim 59, wherein the entities are vendors and the client is a purchaser of goods or services from the vendor.
- 67. The system of claim 59, wherein the entities are donors and the client is a charitable organization.
- 68. The system of claim 59, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment utility.
- 69. The system of claim 68, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 70. The system of claim 68, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 71. The system of claim 59, wherein a system operator administers the enrollment utility on behalf of a client.
- 72. The system of claim 71, wherein the system operator is a trusted third party.
- 73. The system of claim 72, wherein the system operator is a bank.
- 74. The system of claim 59, wherein the entities enroll for at least one of a collection and a disbursement EFT program.
- 75. The system of claim 59, further comprising means for collecting marketing information from the entities.
- 76. The system of claim 59, further comprising means for requiring acceptance of legal terms before finalizing the enrollment process.
- 77. A system for facilitating enrollment in an electronic funds transfer (EFT) program, comprising:
an enrollment/maintenance database; a vendor subsystem; an administrator subsystem; a batch subsystem; and an audit/report subsystem,
wherein the enrollment/maintenance database is in communication with each of the subsystems and the system for facilitating enrollment is operable to enroll individual vendors in an EFT program on behalf of clients.
- 78. The system of claim 77, further comprising a web server.
- 79. The system of claim 77, wherein the enrollment/maintenance database stores profile information with respect to a plurality of vendors.
- 80. The system of claim 77, wherein the vendor subsystem is operable to extract profile information from a vendor.
- 81. The system of claim 77, wherein the vendor subsystem is operable to extract profile information from a donor.
- 82. The system of claim 77, wherein the EFT program is one of a collection program and a disbursement program.
- 83. The system of claim 77, wherein the batch processing subsystem is operable to validate at least a portion of profile information stored in the enrollment/maintenance database.
- 84. The system of claim 83, wherein the batch processing subsystem is operable to a generate prenotification.
- 85. The system of claim 83, wherein the batch processing subsystem is operable to generate credit card authorizations.
- 86. The system of claim 77, wherein the enrollment/maintenance database is controlled by a bank.
- 87. A method of enrolling in a payment plan, comprising the steps of:
directing an entity to an online enrollment process via which profile information is obtained, the profile information comprising at least one of an entity name and a selected payment plan; and initiating an automatic electronic funds transfer between the entity and a first party in accordance with the selected payment plan, the first party being known to the entity,
wherein the electronic funds transfer is initiated by one of the first party and a second party that is unknown to the entity.
- 88. The method of claim 87, wherein the second party is a bank.
- 89. The method of claim 87, wherein the second party provides at least a portion of the profile information to the first party so that the first party can initiate the electronic funds transfer.
- 90. The method of claim 87, wherein the selected payment plan comprises one of a credit card transaction and an automated clearinghouse transaction.
- 91. The method of claim 87, wherein the payment plan comprises an indication of whether the electronic funds transfer is a one time payment or a periodic payment.
- 92. The method of claim 87, wherein the enrollment process is presented via the Internet and a web browser.
- 93. The method of claim 87, wherein the entity is one of a payor and a payee.
- 94. The method of claim 87, wherein the first party is a client of the second party.
- 95. The method of claim 87, wherein the first party is a charity.
- 96. The method of claim 87, wherein the profile information comprises at least one of a credit card number and an account number.
