Claims
- 1. A method for communicating data during an audio conference, comprising:
receiving an audio signal; receiving digital data from a data source; modulating the digital data onto a carrier signal; combining the carrier signal with the audio signal; and communicating the combined signal to at least one remote communication device.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the communicating is performed over a POTS line.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the communicating is performed over an IP connection.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a spectrum associated with the audio signal.
- 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising filtering the audio signal utilizing a notch filter to create a subset of a spectrum for incorporating the modulated carrier signal.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the modulated carrier signal is a spread-spectrum modulated carrier signal.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the modulated carrier signal is a single frequency modulated carrier signal.
- 8. The method of claim 1, further comprising separating the combined signal into the audio signal and the modulated carrier signal at the at least one remote device.
- 9. The method of claim 1, further comprising demodulating the modulated carrier signal to extract the data.
- 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting an amplitude of the modulated carrier signal proportionally to an instantaneous amplitude of the audio signal.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the adjustment is made in a region of a spectrum located near a region occupied by the modulated carrier signal.
- 12. A system for communicating data during an audio conference, comprising:
a signal generator for generating a carrier signal; a modulator for modulating digital data received from a data source onto the carrier signal; a product signal module coupled to the modulator for combining the modulated carrier signal with an audio signal to create a product signal; and a communication interface for communicating the product signal to a remote communication device.
- 13. The system of claim 12, further comprising an amplifier for adjusting the amplitude of the modulated carrier signal proportionally to an instantaneous amplitude of the audio signal.
- 14. The system of claim 13, wherein the adjustment is made in a region of a spectrum near a region occupied by the modulated carrier signal.
- 15. The system of claim 12, wherein the product signal is communicated over a POTS line.
- 16. The system of claim 12, wherein the product signal is communicated over an IP connection.
- 17. The system of claim 12, further comprising a notch filter for filtering the audio signal to create a subset of a spectrum for incorporating the modulated carrier signal.
- 18. The system of claim 12, wherein the modulator is a spread spectrum modulator.
- 19. An apparatus for communicating data during an audio conference, comprising:
means for receiving an audio signal; means for receiving digital data from a data source; means for modulating the digital data onto a carrier signal; means for combining the modulated carrier signal with the audio signal; and means for communicating the combined signal to at least one remote communication device.
- 20. A computer-readable medium comprising instructions for communicating data during an audio conference by performing the steps of:
receiving an audio signal; receiving digital data from a data source; modulating the digital data onto a carrier signal; combining the modulated carrier signal with the audio signal; and communicating the combined signal to at least one remote communication device.
- 21. A method for communicating data during an audio conference, comprising:
modulating digital data onto a carrier signal; combining the modulated carrier signal with an audio signal; communicating the combined signal to at least one remote communication device; separating the combined signal into the audio signal and the modulated carrier signal at the at least one remote communication device; and demodulating the modulated carrier signal to extract the digital data.
