SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CREATING A BADGE FOR A CONFERENCE OR EXHIBITION VISITOR FROM A SCANNED ID DOCUMENT

Abstract
A system and method for acquiring identification information from each visitor of an event and producing a smart badge that will automatically register him to the event activities. The system comprises a scanning or imaging device, information extraction means and printing means, including label printing and RFID, magnetic and barcode printing means. The system can also read each smart badge issued by wireless means and without the visitor having to actively cooperate and hence, continuously trace any visitor location and his points of interest.

Claims
  • 1. A system for automatically producing a badge for an event visitor, comprising: a) a data acquisition apparatus for extracting data from an Identification data document;b) an application program running on a computer system or an embedded stand alone apparatus; andc) badge printing means,
  • 2. The system as in claim 1 further comprises (d) a label printer.
  • 3. The system as in claim 1 further comprises (e) readers that can also read said badge from a distance.
  • 4. The system as in claim 1, wherein the computer system is a personal computer or a PDA.
  • 5. The system as in claim 1, wherein the computer system is embedded in one of the other units of the system.
  • 6. The system as in claim 1, wherein the data acquisition apparatus is one or more of the following: a magnetic card reader, a 2-dimentional barcode reader, a RFID reader, a camera.
  • 7. The system as in claim 1, wherein said badge only carries said printed label, which is possibly attachable.
  • 8. The system as in claim 1, wherein said badge includes one or more of the following: RFID, 2-dimentional barcode, magnetic field, electromagnetic field.
  • 9. The system as in claim 1, wherein the identification data is extracted from one or more of the following documents: a business card, a driver's license, a passport, other common identification document.
  • 10. A method for automatically producing a badge for an event visitor, capable of: a) Reading a Identification data document by a data acquisition apparatus;b) Storing acquired Identification data on computer system;c) Extracting textual and image data from said data; andd) Printing selected extracted items onto a badge,
  • 11. The method as in claim 10 further includes the capability of printing a label, including text and pictorial information. The label is affixed to the badge.
  • 12. The method as in claim 10 further readers that can also read said badge from a distance.
  • 13. The method as in claim 10, wherein the computer system is a personal computer or a PDA.
  • 14. The method as in claim 10, wherein the computer system is embedded in one of the other units of the system.
  • 15. The method as in claim 10, wherein the OCR module on the computer system can distinguish between a business card and a driver's license or any other type of documents.
  • 16. The method as in claim 10, wherein the data acquisition apparatus is one or more of the following: a magnetic card reader, a 2-dimentional barcode reader, a RFID reader, a camera.
  • 17. The method as in claim 10, wherein said badge includes one or more of the following: RFID, 2-dimentional barcode, magnetic field, electromagnetic field.
  • 18. The method as in claim 10, wherein the identification data is extracted from one or more of the following documents: a business card, a driver's license, a passport, other common identification document.
