SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention provides an improved method and an improved apparatus of the type mentioned at the beginning. At the same time, the method and the apparatus should as far as possible be capable of automation.

According to the invention, a method for influencing and/or monitoring the press pressure profile which results in the web running direction and/or transverse direction in an extended press nip used for the treatment of a material web is provided. State data relating to a profiling unit used for the press pressure profile setting based on the respective press pressure profile which results from a relevant state of the profiling unit is stored in a data storage device, and the stored state data is retrieved again in order to act specifically on the profiling unit.

On account of this design, extensive automation and even more reliable control and/or regulation of the relevant procedures are possible.

According to a preferred practical refinement of the method according to the invention, the relevant state data relating to the profiling unit is stored in the data storage device for a plurality of different press pressure profiles.

In order to set a respective press pressure profile, the state data of the profiling unit associated therewith is retrieved from the data storage device and the profiling unit is acted on in a corresponding manner.

By way of retrieving state data relating to the profiling unit from the data storage device, for example, respective presetting of the press pressure profile can also be performed. Precise setting of the press pressure profile can then be carried out.

According to a preferred practical refinement of the method according to the invention, by way of varying the action on the profiling unit, a respective predefinable press pressure profile is set, and the state data relating to the profiling unit which results, in this case, based on the respective predefinable press pressure profile, is stored in the data storage device.

State data relating to the profiling unit based on a respective press pressure profile which results during operation and/or dynamic conditions is preferably stored in the data storage device.

According to a preferred practical refinement, state data relating to the profiling unit based on a respective press pressure profile adapted to the respective production conditions for the purpose of optimising at least one material web property is stored in the data storage device.

In specific cases, it may be advantageous if state data relating to the profiling unit based on press pressure profiles for different operating phases, such as start-up, commissioning and/or the like, is stored in the data storage device.

Pressure profile control and/or regulation are preferably carried out. In this case, the data storage device can, for example, be assigned to the relevant control and/or regulating device or can be a part of this device.

In particular, for such pressure profile control and/or regulation and/or for pressure profile monitoring, the press pressure profile is expediently measured. In this case, this press pressure profile is preferably measured during operation and/or under dynamic conditions.

According to a further preferred refinement of the method according to the invention, the press pressure profile which results in the case of a respective predefinable state of the profiling unit is measured and is monitored for changes with respect to a predefinable standard. In this case, a press pressure profile which results during the operation of the relevant press unit is correspondingly monitored.

On the basis of the press pressure profile changes that are determined, a fault diagnosis can then be carried out, in particular, on the relevant press unit or parts thereof. Such a fault diagnosis can be based, for example, on the state of at least one endless belt guided through the press nip, in particular, a felt and/or the like, and it is therefore indirectly possible, for example, for the state of a relevant felt to be monitored. For instance, it is possible to detect in good time when the respective felt must be replaced.

The material web can be, for example, a fibrous web and, in particular, a paper, board or tissue web.

The relevant press nip can, for example, be used for dewatering and/or calendering the material or fibrous web.

According to the invention, moreover, a method for monitoring the press pressure profile which results in the web running direction and/or transverse direction in an extended press nip used for the treatment of a material web is provided. The method is characterized in that the press pressure profile is measured in the press nip.

In this case, at least one displacement transducer can be provided to determine the respective press shoe position. The relevant state data to be stored in the data storage device can then correspond, for example, to the respective press shoe positions.

The press shoe can be sectioned, as viewed in the transverse direction.

In a preferred practical embodiment, the press shoe can be acted on respectively section by section in the web running direction, as viewed in the transverse direction. It is thus possible via appropriate action on the press shoe for a plurality of press pressure profiles which result in the web running direction to be set simultaneously. The state data to be stored in the data storage device in the present case can also again correspond to the relevant settings.

In a further expedient embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, on at least one side of the press nip, there is provided a circulating press belt, which can be acted on by at least two separately controllable pressing elements which are arranged one after another in the web running direction and via which the press pressure profile, can accordingly be influenced. At least one press shoe is preferably again provided between the press belt and the supporting elements. The press shoe can, in particular, again be flexible. In a further advantageous embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, the profiling unit comprises at least one press shoe arranged on one side of the press nip and also provides for changing the contour of the press shoe which results in the web running direction and/or in the transverse direction. In this case, the shoe body preferably has at least one chamber to which pressure can be applied and/or which can be heated and/or cooled, in order to change the shoe contour in a corresponding manner. The state data to be stored in the data storage device, in this case, can be representative of the respective state of the relevant means that change the shoe contour.

In principle, any desired combinations of the various embodiments are also conceivable. For example, a press shoe can be used which can both be adjusted and whose contour can be changed, and so on.

The apparatus according to the invention is used, in particular, for carrying out the method according to the invention. It can therefore, in particular, again be used for dewatering and/or calendering the material or fibrous web. Via the respectively stored state data, it is, in particular, also again possible for a respective predefinable state of the profiling unit, that is to say, for example, of the press shoe and/or supporting or pressing element arrangement, to be set, which means, in particular, that monitoring of the press pressure profile for any changes is also again possible. If the apparatus comprises a control and/or regulating unit, then the data storage device can, in particular, again be assigned to this unit or be part of this unit. A fault determined during the monitoring of the pressure profile can be signalled optically and/or acoustically. In principle, it is also conceivable that, when a corresponding fault is detected, the relevant machine is automatically switched off, which, for example, can again be carried out via the relevant control and/or regulating unit.

FIG. 1 shows a schematic, partly sectioned illustration of an apparatus for implementing and/or monitoring a press pressure profile which results in the web running direction;

FIG. 2 shows a schematic plan view of part of the apparatus according to FIG. 1; and

FIG. 3 shows a graph in which, purely by way of example, three different press pressure longitudinal profiles which result in the case of correspondingly different press shoe positions are illustrated.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

FIGS. 1 and 2 show, in a schematic illustration, an exemplary embodiment of an apparatus 10 for influencing the press pressure profile. The web running direction L is illustrated, as is an extended press nip 12 used for the treatment of a material web. The material web can be, in particular, a paper, board or tissue web.

The apparatus 10 comprises at least one press shoe 14 which is arranged on one side of the press nip 12 and can be adjusted in the web running direction L. A press belt 16, which can, in particular, be the press cover of what is known as a shoe press roll, wraps around the press shoe 14. In addition, the press shoe 12 is acted on in the direction of an opposing surface 20 by at least one pressing element 18. The press nip 12 is therefore provided between the press belt 16 and the opposing surface 20 which, for example, can be formed by an opposing roll 22.

The press shoe 14 can, in particular, be continuously adjustable in the web running direction L.

The profiling unit used for the press pressure profile setting here therefore comprises, in particular, the press shoe 14 and the at least one pressing element 18.

The apparatus 10 also comprises a data storage device 23 for the storage of state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 based on a respective pressure profile which results from a relevant state of the profiling unit 14, 18.

For the purpose of appropriate setting of the press shoe 14, at least one adjustable wedge-shaped bar 24 extends generally transversely with respect to the web running direction L and is arranged behind the press shoe 14, as viewed in the web running direction L. The press shoe 14 is urged against the wedge-shaped bar 24 as a result of the friction occurring in the web running direction L between it and the circulating press belt 16. Here, the press shoe 14 can be provided with at least one stop 26, via which it bears on this wedge-shaped bar 24.

During the operation of the relevant shoe press, the press shoe 14 therefore bears continually on the wedge-shaped bar 24, so that a respective shoe adjustment in the web running direction L is possible at any time via the wedge-shaped bar 24.

As can be seen, in particular, in FIG. 2, the wedge-shaped bar 24 can be adjusted in the direction of its longitudinal axis, that is to say, here in a direction transversely with respect to the web running direction L.

In order to adjust the wedge-shaped bar 24, a driven spindle 28, for example, can be provided. The spindle 28 can, for example, be driven by a hydraulic motor 30 or the like.

The wedge-shaped bar 24 is mounted on a supporting element 32, on which the pressing elements 18 acting on the press shoe 14 in the direction of the opposing surface 20, which can be, for example, cylinder/piston units (see FIG. 1), are also supported. Here, the wedge-shaped bar 24 is fixed in the web running direction L by way of stops 34 provided on the supporting element 32. Furthermore, the wedge-shaped bar 24 can be guided by these stops 34 during a respective adjustment in the transverse direction.

As can be seen, in particular, in FIG. 2, that the wedge-shaped bar 24 has at least one inclined face 38, which interacts with an inclined face 40 belonging to a stop 26 assigned to the press shoe 14. In this way, with a respective adjustment of the wedge-shaped bar 24 in the transverse direction, the press shoe 14 is displaced in the web running direction L in a corresponding manner. In particular, a plurality of such inclined faces 38 can be provided on the wedge-shaped bar 24, wherein each of these inclined faces 38 interact, in each case, with a stop 26 assigned to the press shoe 14. In this case, for example, a wedge-shaped bar 24 can extend substantially over the entire press shoe width.

In principle, however, a plurality of wedge-shaped bars 24, that is to say at least two, extending generally in the transverse direction in each case, can also be provided. As viewed in the transverse direction, these can be arranged beside one another in a line, for example. In this case, a respective wedge-shaped bar 24 can, in each case, interact with one or more stops 26 assigned to the press shoe 14. The various wedge-shaped bars can at least partly be driven separately.

The drive force is transmitted to the wedge-shaped bar 24 from the spindle 28 via a movement thread 36. In this case, this movement thread 36 can be designed in such a way and the wedge angle can be selected in such a way, such that when there is no drive, a respective wedge-shaped bar setting and, correspondingly, a respective shoe setting, is secured by way of self-locking.

The current position of the press shoe 14 is measured by one or more displacement transducers 42 (see FIG. 1). It is therefore possible, for example, for measured values obtained via these displacement transducers 42 to be stored in the data storage device 23 as state data, and retrieved again in order to act specifically on the profiling unit 14, 18. The adjustment of the press shoe 14 can be controlled and/or regulated from outside the shoe press. As a result, its becomes possible, in particular, for the stored state data to be used as well.

The press shoe 14 can, in particular, be set in the respectively desired manner via a control and/or regulating device 44, for example, by falling back on the state data stored in the data storage device 23. As can be seen in FIG. 2, the data storage device 23 can be assigned to the control and/or regulating unit 44 or it can be part of this unit 44. The displacement transducer 42 can be connected to the data storage device 23 or the control and/or regulating device 44. The respective current position of the press shoe 14 can, for example, be compared with a respective desired value in this control and/or regulating device 44, in order to achieve matching to this desired value. In this case, too, it is possible, in particular, to fall back on the state data stored in the data storage device 23.

The press shoe 14 can be provided with pressure measuring holes 46 opening into the region between press shoe 14 and press belt 16 in order to measure the pressure profile which results in the web running direction L. As can be seen in FIG. 2, a plurality of such pressure measuring holes 46 can be arranged one after another in the web running direction L. By way of a variation in the action on the profiling unit 14, 18, for example, a respective predefinable press pressure profile can now be set. The state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18, which results in this case, can then be stored in the data storage device 23, based on the respective predefinable press pressure profile. In this case, state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 based on a respective press pressure profile, which results during operation and/or under dynamic conditions, is preferably stored in the data storage device 23.

In principle, in particular, state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 based on the respective press pressure profile matched to the respective production conditions, in order to optimise at least one material web property, can also be stored in the data storage device 23. It is also possible, in particular, for press pressure profiles for different operating phases, such as the start-up of the relevant machine, in particular, papermaking machine. The commissioning and/or and the like of the profiles can be stored.

By way of the control and/or regulating device 44, at least one desired press pressure profile can expediently be predefined. For respective equalization between the current profile and the desired profile, it is again possible, in particular, to fall back on the state data stored in the data storage device 23. The profiling unit 14, 18 is therefore acted on in accordance with the retrieved state data, in order, for example, to obtain a respective presetting. If necessary, a respective precise adjustment can then be carried out.

Therefore, for example, a design of the apparatus 10 in which the press pressure profile which results in the web running direction L can be controlled and/or regulated via an appropriate adjustment of the press shoe 14 is also conceivable, for which purpose, in particular, the respective stored state data can also be used as well.

Alternatively or additionally, monitoring of the press pressure profile is also possible, in which the press pressure profile which results in a predefinable state of the profiling unit is measured and is monitored for changes, for example with respect to a predefinable standard. The relevant state of the profiling unit 14, 18 can, in particular, be produced again by the relevant state data being retrieved from the data storage device 23 and the profiling unit 14, 18 being acted on in a corresponding manner. In this case, the press pressure profile which results during the operation of the apparatus 10 is preferably again monitored in a corresponding manner.

On the basis of the press pressure profile changes detected, it is then, in particular, possible for a fault diagnosis relating to the pressing unit or parts thereof to be carried out. Here, such a fault diagnosis can, for example, be based on the state of at least one endless belt 16 led through the press nip 12, for example a felt and/or the like. It is also possible, for example, to determine in good time when the relevant felt must be replaced. This can also again be signalled acoustically and/or optically, for example.

The press shoe 14 can be designed to be continuous or sectioned, as viewed in the transverse direction.

If a plurality of stops 26 assigned to the press shoe 14 are driven individually via a plurality of drives, for example, respectively formed by a hydraulic motor 30, different pressure profiles can also be set simultaneously, in order, for example, to improve the transverse moisture profile. These settings can, in particular, also be made again by using state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 stored in the data storage device 23.

Via pressure measuring holes 48 provided in the press shoe 14 (see FIG. 2), the maximum pressure of the pressure profile over each pressing element 18 can be measured. Since the pressure profile which results in the web running direction L is measured at one or more points, the pressure profile on each pressing element 18 can be determined on the basis of the maximum pressure. For this purpose, corresponding state data can again also be stored in the data storage device 23.

The setting of the press pressure profile which results in the web running direction L can be carried out, for example, as a function of specific operating conditions, such as the respective type of felt, the respective paper grade and/or the like. For this purpose, the relevant state data can again also be stored in the data storage device 23.

In combination with the setting or control and/or regulation of the press pressure profile, which results in the web running direction L, the press pressure transverse profile can also be controlled and/or regulated in the respectively desired manner, in particular, via the various pressing elements 18. For this purpose, corresponding state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 can again be stored in the data storage device 23.

The press belt 16 or the press shoe 14 can, for example, also be acted on via at least two pressing elements 18 which are arranged one after another in the web running direction L (not shown) and can be driven separately, in order to influence the press pressure profile in a corresponding manner. For instance, a design in which one or more pressing elements 18 can be displaced, for example, in the web running direction L and/or in the transverse direction, in particular, with a positionally stable press shoe 14, is also conceivable. In these cases, too, corresponding state data relating to the profiling unit 14, 18 can again be stored in the data storage device 23, in order to be retrieved again later in order to act on the profiling unit 14, 18 in a corresponding manner.

FIG. 3 shows a graph in which, purely by way of example, three different press pressure longitudinal profiles, which result in the case of correspondingly different press shoe positions, are illustrated. In this case, the pressures indicated in “MPa” are plotted against the resultant distance “x” in the web running direction, specified in “millimeters” from a reference point. As can be seen from the curves A-C, applying to three different shoe positions, a higher maximum pressure value results in the case of the shoe setting A than in the case of the shoe setting B. Moreover, a higher maximum pressure value results in the case of the shoe setting B than in the case of the shoe setting C.

The press profiles shown in the graph can be provided for three different products, for example, and, in particular, can at least substantially be predefined by way of state data for the relevant profiling unit stored in the data storage device. The relevant curves can be produced by displacing the press shoe 14 in the web running direction L.
