- 7. The system of claim 6, wherein the persistent storage module includes a list of email services that will accept a forwarding rule, and wherein the email integration logic unit is operable to access the persistent storage module to determine if the secondary email service will accept a forwarding rule.
- 8. The system of claim 7, wherein if the email integration logic unit determines that the secondary email service will accept a forwarding rule, then the email integration logic unit being operable to use the account information to configure a forwarding rule as the means for forwarding electronic messages from the preferred email service to the secondary email service.
- 9. The system of claim 7, wherein if the email integration logic unit determines that the secondary email service will not accept a forwarding rule, then the email integration logic unit being operable to use the account information to configure a polling agent as the means for forwarding electronic messages from the preferred email service to the secondary email service.
- 10. The system of claim 6, wherein the persistent storage module includes a list of email services that may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method, and wherein the email integration logic unit is operable to access the persistent storage module to determine if the secondary email service may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method.
- 11. The system of claim 10, wherein if the email integration logic unit determines that the secondary email service may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method, then the email integration logic unit being operable to use the account information to configure a polling agent as the means for forwarding the electronic messages from the preferred email service to the secondary email service.
- 12. A method of integrating a secondary electronic mail (email) service with a preferred email service, comprising:
receiving account information regarding the secondary email service and the preferred email service; determining if the secondary email service will accept a forwarding rule; if the secondary email service will accept a forwarding rule, then using the account information to establish a forwarding rule maintained by the secondary email service, the forwarding rule being configured to automatically forward electronic messages from the secondary email service to the preferred email service; if the secondary email service will not accept a forwarding rule, then determining if the secondary email service may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method; and if the secondary email service will not accept a forwarding rule and may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method, then using the account information to establish a polling agent, the polling agent being configured to automatically retrieve electronic messages from the secondary email service and forward the retrieved electronic messages to the preferred email service.
- 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising contacting the secondary email service and authenticating the account information.
- 14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:
establishing a sent-from email address to be included as a sender address in email messages transmitted from the preferred email service.
- 15. The method of claim 14, wherein the sent-from address is selected by a user of the preferred email service.
- 16. The method of claim 14, wherein if the email message being transmitted from the preferred email service relates to a previous email message received by the secondary email service and forwarded to the preferred email service, then the sent-from address is dynamically set by the preferred email service to correspond with an electronic mail account in the secondary email service.
- 17. An electronic mail (email) integration service for use with a plurality of email services that are operable to send and receive electronic messages over a wide area network, one of the email services being a preferred email service and another of the email services being a secondary email service, the email integration service comprising:
a network connector operable to interface the email integration service with the wide area network; a user interface operable to receive account information regarding the preferred email service and the secondary email service; a persistent storage module operable to store the account information; and an email integration logic unit operable to use the account information to contact the secondary email service via the wide area network and configure a forwarding rule for automatically forwarding electronic messages from the secondary email service to the preferred email service.
- 18. The system of claim 17, wherein the persistent storage module includes a list of email services that will accept a forwarding rule, and wherein the email integration logic unit is operable to access the persistent storage module to determine if the secondary email service will accept the forwarding rule.
- 19. The email integration service of claim 17, wherein the email integration logic unit is further operable to use the account information to configure a polling agent for automatically forwarding electronic messages from the secondary email service to the preferred email service.
- 20. The email integration service of claim 19, wherein the persistent storage module includes a list of email service that may be accessed by a polling agent using an Internet email retrieval method, and wherein the email integration logic unit is operable to access the persistent storage module to determine if the secondary email service may be accessed using an Internet email retrieval method.
- 21. The email integration service of claim 17, wherein the secondary email service is an Internet service provider (ISP) email service.
- 22. The email integration service of claim 19, wherein the secondary email service is a webmail service.
- 23. The email integration service of claim 19, wherein the polling agent contacts the secondary email service at regular intervals to retrieve electronic messages and forwards the retrieved electronic messages to the preferred email service.
- 24. The email integration service of claim 19, wherein the secondary email service transmits a new mail message to the polling agent, and the polling agent retrieves an electronic message from the secondary email service in response to the new mail message and forwards the retrieved electronic message to the preferred email service.
- 25. A mobile communication device for use in a system for integrating a plurality of electronic mail (email) accounts, the system including a plurality of email services operable to send and receive electronic messages over a wide area network with one of the email services being a preferred email service and another of the email services being a secondary email service, the system also including an email integration service that is independent of the plurality of email services and that is operable to receive account information regarding the preferred email service and the secondary email service and use the account information to configure a forwarding rule or a polling agent for automatically forwarding electronic messages from the secondary email service to the preferred email service, the mobile communication device comprising:
