Claims
- 1. A system for interfacing with an operator administering one or more procedures in a blood component collection facility for collecting at least one blood component from a donor, the blood component collection facility comprising a blood component collection instrument capable of being adapted to the donor wherein the operator facilitates interaction of the donor with the blood component collection facility, the system comprising:
a blood component collection process including a procedure for removing a blood component from a blood component donor, the procedure including data associated with the removing the blood component from the blood component donor; a system server operably connected to the blood component collection instrument, the system server comprising a blood component collection application having a segment defining at least a portion of the blood component collection process; an operator interface operably connected to the system server, the operator interface comprising a reader for entering one of a plurality of identifiers, each identifier associated with the blood component collection facility; a transmitter operably connected to the operator interface, the transmitter transmitting information associated with the blood component collection facility to the system server for integration into the blood component collection application; and an operator identifier assigned to an operator wherein the operator identifier is transmitted to the system server utilizing the operator interface and the operator identifier is associated with the data associated with the removing the blood component from the blood component donor.
- 2. The system of claim 1 further comprising:
a display unit connected to the operator interface for monitoring the data associated with the removing the blood component from the blood component donor; a communication conduit operably connecting the blood component collection instrument and the system server, communication conduit providing a communication protocol for facilitating communication with the system server.
- 3. The system of claim 2 further comprising:
a blood component collection process identifier being assigned to the blood component collection process wherein the procedure for removing the blood component from the blood component donor comprises a blood-component-collection-initialization procedure, an arm-prep procedure, a remove-blood-component procedure, and a disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure wherein the blood component collection process identifier is associated with the donor.
- 4. The system of claim 3 wherein the blood collection process further comprises a blood component collection instrument set-up procedure.
- 5. The system of claim 2 further comprising:
a blood component collection kit having a blood component collection kit identifier, at least a portion of the blood component collection kit for containing the collected blood component.
- 6. The system of claim 2 wherein the communication protocol is Ethernet.
- 7. The system of claim 2 wherein the communication protocol is TCP/IP.
- 8. The system of claim 2 comprising:
a network server being operably connected to the system; and, a web interface being operably connected to the system server for facilitating access to the system server from the network server.
- 9. The system of claim 1 wherein the reader comprises a magnetic scanner for receiving the operator identifier.
- 10. The system of claim 1 wherein the reader comprises a touch pad for receiving the operator identifier.
- 11. The system of claim 1 wherein the reader comprises a keypad for receiving the operator identifier.
- 12. The system of claim 1 wherein the reader comprises an optical scanner for receiving the operator identifier.
- 13. The system of claim 1 wherein the transmitter is a radio frequency transmitter.
- 14. The system of claim 3 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a blood component instrument identifier.
- 15. The system of claim 14 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection process identifier.
- 16. The system of claim 15 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a donor identifier.
- 17. The system of claim 16 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
a fourth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier.
- 18. The system of claim 3 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a blood component instrument identifier.
- 19. The system of claim 18 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting an identification of the blood donor's arm for drawing the blood component.
- 20. The system of claim 19 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operating administering the arm-prep procedure.
- 21. The system of claim 3 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a blood component collection instrument identifier.
- 22. The system of claim 22 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection process identifier.
- 23. The system of claim 22 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the remove-blood-component procedure.
- 24. The system of claim 23 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a fourth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting confirmation of a calculated amount of blood component to be removed and an actual amount of blood component removed.
- 25. The system of claim 24 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a fifth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a reason for a difference between the calculated amount of blood component to be removed and the actual amount of blood component removed.
- 26. The system of claim 3 wherein the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure comprises:
a sixth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure.
- 27. The system of claim 26 wherein the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure comprises:
a seventh prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a reaction of the blood donor during the blood component collection process.
- 28. The system of claim 1 comprising:
an alarm generated by the blood component collection application and displayed via the operator interface for alerting the operator of a condition affecting the blood component collection process.
- 29. The system of claim 1 comprising:
an alarm generated by the blood component collection application and displayed via the operator interface for alerting the operator of a condition affecting the blood component collection instrument.
- 30. The system of claim 1 comprising:
a report summary generated by the blood component collection application and displayed via the operator interface for providing information in response to the operator identifier.
- 31. The system of claim 1 comprising:
a report summary generated by the blood component collection application and displayed via the operator interface for providing information in response to the blood component collection instrument identifier.
- 32. A method for interfacing with an operator administering one or more procedures in a blood component collection facility for collecting at least one blood component from a donor, the blood component collection facility comprising a blood component collection instrument capable of being adapted to the donor wherein the operator facilitates interaction between the donor and the blood component collection facility, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a system server operably connected to the blood component collection instrument, the system server comprising a memory and a blood component collection application, the blood component collection application having a segment defining at least a portion of a blood component collection process; providing an operator interface operably connected to the system server, the operator interface having a reader for entering one of a plurality of identifiers being associated with the blood component collection facility; providing a transmitter operably connected to the operator interface, the transmitter capable of transmitting information associated with the blood component collection facility to the system server for integration into the blood component collection application; and, providing an operator identifier assigned to the operator wherein the operator identifier is communicated to the system server via the operator interface for recording an operator's involvement in administering the blood component collection process, wherein the system provides a prompt to enter the operator identifier into the operator interface concomitant with the operator's interaction with the blood component collection facility.
- 33. The method of claim 32 further comprising:
providing a blood component collection kit having a blood component collection kit identifier, the blood component collection kit for containing the collected blood component.
- 34. The method of claim 33 comprising:
providing a communication conduit for connecting the system server to the blood component collection instrument; and, providing a communication protocol for facilitating communication on the communication conduit.
- 35. The method of claim 34 wherein the communication protocol is Ethernet.
- 36. The method of claim 35 wherein the communication protocol is TCP/IP.
- 37. The method of claim 34 comprising:
providing a management interface being operably connected to the communication conduit, the management interface for providing blood component collection facility information.
- 38. The method of claim 32 comprising:
providing a network server being operably connected to the system server; and, providing a web in terface being operably connected to the system server for facilitating access to the system server from the network server.
- 39. The method of claim 32 wherein the blood collection process comprises:
a blood-component-collection-initialization procedure; an arm-prep procedure; a remove-blood-component procedure; and, a disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure wherein the blood component collection process identifier being generated by the blood component collection application and associated with the donor.
- 40. The method of claim 39 wherein the blood collection process further comprises:
a blood component collection instrument set-up procedure.
- 41. The method of claim 39 further comprising:
providing a display unit being operably connected to the operator interface for providing blood component collection facility information to be monitored by the operator.
- 42. The method of claim 41 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
providing a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component instrument identifier.
- 43. The method of claim 42 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
providing a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection process identifier.
- 44. The method of claim 43 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
providing a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the donor identifier.
- 45. The method of claim 44 wherein the blood-component-collection-initialization procedure comprises:
providing a fourth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the blood- component- collection-initialization procedure.
- 46. The method of claim 41 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
providing a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component instrument identifier.
- 47. The method of claim 46 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
providing a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting an identification of the blood donor's arm for drawing the blood component.
- 48. The method of claim 47 wherein the arm-prep procedure comprises:
a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operating administering the arm-prep procedure.
- 49. The method of claim 41 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
providing a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection instrument identifier.
- 50. The method of claim 49 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
providing a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection process identifier.
- 51. The method of claim 50 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
providing a third prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the remove-blood-component procedure.
- 52. The method of claim 51 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
providing a fourth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting confirmation of a calculated amount of blood component to be removed and an actual amount of blood component removed.
- 53. The method of claim 52 wherein the remove-blood-component procedure comprises:
a fifth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a reason for a difference between the calculated amount of blood component to be removed and the actual amount of blood component removed.
- 54. The method of claim 41 wherein the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure comprises:
providing a sixth prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure.
- 55. The method of claim 54 wherein the disconnect-blood-component-donor procedure comprises:
a seventh prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting a reaction of the blood donor during the blood component collection process.
- 56. The method of claim 40 further comprising:
providing a display unit being operably connected to the operator interface for providing blood component collection facility information to be monitored by the operator.
- 57. The method of claim 56 wherein the blood component collection instrument set-up procedure comprises:
providing a first prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the blood component collection instrument identifier.
- 58. The method of claim 57 wherein the a blood component collection instrument set-up procedure comprises:
providing a second prompt displayed via the operator interface for requesting the operator identifier of the operator administering the blood component collection instrument set-up procedure.
