Claims
- 1. An method for persistent storage of common user information for interactive television providing multiple disparate interactive user applications, each application requiring the same user input information, said method comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a user with television channels and a plurality of interactive multiple disparate user applications; (b) providing the user with a single centrally located data repository for storing information about the user; (c) providing an additional data repository in a set top box for said common user information at said user's location; and (d) providing a registration application for said user that allows for collecting, storing and repetitively using user information for each different disparate user interactive application so that the user does not have to repeatedly enter the same information required by each different multiple application.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said information is input for a specific point of presence (PoP) for access by said user.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user may create and amend accounts for the applications provided by the interactive television service provider.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein each account created has a unique password.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the common user information supplied to the repository includes a time stamp indicating the time of the input.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the interactive television applications include e-mail, banking, and games.
- 7. A system for persistent storage of common user information for interactive television, said system comprising:
(a) a set-top box for receiving multiple disparate interactive television applications, each requiring the same user information for activation via satellite, said set-top box including a registry for storing and transmitting registration information inputted by a user to a central repository; and (b) a central repository remote from the set-top box for storing said relevant user registration information necessary for each application from a plurality of registries in electronic communication with the set top-box, such that the user does not have to repeatedly enter the same user information for each different application.
- 8. The system of claim 7, further comprising a point of presence locator for the set top box input by the user for the efficient transmission of the registration information to the central repository.
- 9. The system of claim 7, wherein the central repository is directly updateable by the interactive television service provider.
- 10. The system of claim 8, wherein the user is capable of creating and editing separate accounts at a specific point of presence.
- 11. The system of claim 7, wherein interactive television service includes e-mail.
- 12. The system of claim 7, wherein interactive television service includes banking.
- 13. A computer program stored in a computer readable medium, embodying instructions to perform a method of efficiently maintaining information pertaining to the registration of a user of interactive television applications, said method comprising the steps of:
accepting user registration information necessary in different interactive applications input by a user into a memory storage device in a set-top box; incorporating the registration information with a time stamp, thereby creating a data log record; and storing said data log record in the memory storage device for repetitious use with different applications.
- 14. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of determining a unique point of presence of the user of the registration application.
- 15. The method of claim 13, further including the step of transmitting the registration information to a central repository.
- 16. The method of claim 13, wherein a user is capable of creating and maintaining separate accounts.
- 17. The method of claim 13, wherein the interactive television applications include interactive games, banking, and e-mail.
- 18. The method of claim 13, wherein the interactive television service provider is capable of independently updating the central repository.
- 19. The system of claim 13, wherein the registration information may be downloaded from the central repository to the registry in the set-top box.
