Claims
- 1. A system for processing radar data comprising:
an antenna signal processor receiving radar data from one or more radar antennae and generating speed data for a first vehicle travelling in a first direction and a second vehicle travelling in a second direction, where the first direction is different from the second direction; and a display generator system receiving the speed data and user-entered display control data, and generating user-readable display data based on the speed data and the user-entered display control data.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein the antenna signal processor further comprises a fast Fourier transform system receiving the radar data and converting the radar data from a time domain to a frequency domain.
- 3. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises an opposite lane system receiving opposite lane control data and selecting opposite lane speed data for inclusion in the user-readable display data in response to the opposite lane control data.
- 4. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises an opposite lane system receiving opposite lane control data and transmitting the opposite lane control data to the antenna signal processor, the antenna signal processor processing opposite lane speed data in response to the opposite lane control data.
- 5. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises a fastest system receiving fastest control data and selecting speed data for a fastest vehicle for inclusion in the user-readable display data in response to the fastest control data.
- 6. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises a fastest system receiving fastest control data and transmitting the fastest control data to the antenna signal processor, the antenna signal processor processing fastest speed data for a vehicle in response to the fastest control data.
- 7. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises a strongest system receiving strongest control data and selecting speed data for a vehicle having a strongest radar signal for inclusion in the user-readable display data in response to the strongest control data.
- 8. The system of claim 1 wherein the display generator system further comprises a strongest system receiving strongest control data and transmitting the strongest control data to the antenna signal processor, the antenna signal processor processing speed data for a vehicle having a strongest radar signal in response to the strongest control data.
- 9. A method for processing radar data comprising:
receiving a first frame of radar data from a first antenna; processing the first frame of radar data from the first antenna to generate speed data; receiving a frame of radar data from a second antenna; and processing the frame of radar data from the second antenna to generate speed data prior to processing a second frame of radar data from the first antenna.
- 10. The method of claim 9 wherein processing the first frame of radar data from the first antenna to generate the speed data comprises generating speed data for vehicles in a same lane and an opposite lane.
- 11. The method of claim 9 wherein processing the first frame of radar data from the first antenna to generate the speed data comprises:
receiving control data to generate speed data for vehicles in an opposite lane; and processing the first frame of radar data from the first antenna to generate the speed data for vehicles in the opposite lane.
- 12. The method of claim 9 wherein processing the radar data to generate speed data comprises:
performing a fast Fourier transform on the radar data to generate Fourier transform data; and determining speed data from the Fourier transform data.
- 13. A method for processing radar data comprising:
receiving a user selection of two or more directions relative to an observation point; processing radar data to generate speed data for vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions; and generating a user readable display of the speed data.
- 14. The method of claim 13 wherein the two or more directions include the group comprising an opposite lane in front of the observation point, the opposite lane behind the observation point, a same lane in front of the observation point, and the same lane behind the observation point.
- 15. The method of claim 13 wherein processing the radar data to generate the speed data for the vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions further comprises generating speed data for a vehicle having a strongest signal.
- 16. The method of claim 13 wherein processing the radar data to generate the speed data for the vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions further comprises generating speed data for a vehicle having a fastest speed.
- 17. The method of claim 14 wherein processing the radar data to generate the speed data for the vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions further comprises generating speed data for a vehicle having a strongest signal and speed data for a vehicle having a fastest speed for each direction.
- 18. The method of claim 14 wherein processing the radar data to generate the speed data for the vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions further comprises processing the radar data to generate the speed data only for the vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions.
- 19. The method of claim 13 wherein generating the user readable display of the speed data comprises:
extracting the speed data from data buffer locations corresponding to the two or more user-selected directions; and converting the extracted speed data into a user-readable format.
- 20. The method of claim 13 wherein processing the radar data to generate the speed data for vehicles travelling in the two or more user-selected directions further comprises processing radar data from two or more radar antennae.
- 21. A method for processing radar data comprising:
determining a first speed of a vehicle using radar signals emitted from the vehicle in a first direction; determining a second speed of a vehicle using radar signals emitted from the vehicle in a second direction; and using the first speed and the second speed to determine a ground speed of the vehicle.
- 22. The method of claim 21 further comprising determining whether the first speed and the second speed are within a predetermined tolerance before using the first speed and the second speed to determine the ground speed.
- 23. The method of claim 21 wherein using the first speed and the second to determine the ground speed of the vehicle further comprises using the first speed and the second speed as input to a speed tracking algorithm.
- 24. The method of claim 21 wherein using the first speed and the second speed to determine the ground speed of the vehicle further comprises using the first speed and the second speed if it would be necessary to reset patrol speed search and acquisition using only one of the first speed and the second speed.
