Claims
- 1. A control system for controlling driving stability of a vehicle which has a steering angle and a plurality of brakes to which respective braking pressures are applied, each brake having valve means for adjusting the brake pressure applied to the brake, individually, comprising:
- means for determining the steering angle;
- yawing moment control means, responsive to the steering angle, for determining a yawing moment that is applied to the vehicle to prevent one of the group consisting of an undesirable yaw angle, yaw rate and yaw acceleration;
- distribution logic means responsive to the yawing moment control means for determining pressure adjustments that are required for each brake, individually, to apply the yawing moment to the vehicle, said pressure adjustments being determined independently of whether an actual brake pressure is measured;
- first valve switch timing means, responsive to the pressure adjustments determined by the distribution logic means, for calculating first valve switching times which are usable to open and close the valve means of each brake, individually, so as to perform the required pressure adjustments;
- second valve switch timing means for applying criteria other than yaw moment control criteria to determine second valve switching times which are usable to open and close the valve means of each brake, individually, so as to perform further pressure adjustments; and
- prioritizing means for determining actual valve switching times that are used to open and close the valve means of each brake based on the first and second valve switching times.
- 2. A control system according to claim 1, wherein each brake has a respective variable desired pressure value, and the valve switching times for each brake are calculated, individually, based on a change in the desired brake pressure value over time.
- 3. A control system according to claim 1, wherein the desired pressure value of each brake is evaluated periodically, and the valve switch timing means include:
- means for identifying a condition in which the desired brake pressure of one of the brakes is approximately zero;
- means for setting the valve switching times of the one brake so that the valve means of the one brake is open at least until the desired pressure of the one brake is next evaluated.
- 4. Brake system for a motor vehicle with more than two wheels, wherein at least some of the wheels are provided with a braking means, wherein the braking means associated with one particular wheel can be actuated independently from the others,
- with a control device, which determines, based on the input data made available to them, the individual braking torques, which the braking means are to apply, and sends the corresponding control commands to the braking means;
- a means for determining the steering angle, which sends a variable characterizing the steering angle to the control device; and
- a means for determining an additional yawing moment around the vertical axis of the motor vehicle, so as to prevent one of the group consisting of an undesirable yaw angle, yaw rate and yaw acceleration from occurring, and the control device determines, from the given additional yawing moment, the switching times for the valves that make possible the supply and the removal of pressure agent to and from the braking means, said switching times being determined independently of whether an actual brake pressure is measured, wherein, in addition to the switching times, which are calculated on the basis of an additional yawing moment to be reached, additional switching times are determined, which are to control the braking means on the basis of other criteria, and that the switching times required are compared with one another in a priority circuit in order to determine the switching times with which the valves are actually to be actuated.
- 5. Brake system in accordance with claim 4, characterized in that a brake pressure is determined on the basis of the predetermined additional yawing moment, and the difference from the brake pressure requirement is determined from a preceding calculation run, and that the switching times for the valves are determined from this pressure difference.
- 6. Brake system in accordance with claim 5, characterized in that in the case of a calculated pressure requirement of nearly zero, a switching time is sent for the valve that makes possible the removal of pressure medium from the wheel brakes, and the switching time is selected to be such that it will be ensured that the pressure will be completely reduced in the corresponding wheel brake.
