Claims
- 1. In a system for collecting physiological fluids of the type having a suction wand operatively connected to a source of reduced pressure, the method comprising:
detecting when said fluids are present in said suction wand; maintaining said source of reduced pressure at a first pressure when said fluids are not present in said suction wand; and maintaining said source of reduced pressure at a second pressure when said fluids are present in said suction wand.
- 2. A system according to claim 1 wherein said first pressure is in the range of from about −20 mm Hg to about −10 mm Hg and said second pressure is in the range of from about −150 mm Hg to about −100 mm Hg.
- 3. A system according to claim 1 wherein said step of detecting comprises measuring the pressure difference across a flow restriction in a flow channel connected between said suction wand and said source of reduced pressure.
- 4. A system according to claim 1 further comprising the step of skimming said physiological fluids when said source is maintained at said first pressure.
