Claims
- 1. A method of generating a scene for real-time display, the method comprising the steps of:
receiving data representing a predetermined number of base images; generating a direction-dependent texture map in accordance with said base images; and generating said scene in accordance with said direction-dependent texture map.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said predetermined number of base images comprise 40 base images.
- 3. A system for generating a scene for real-time display comprising:
memory for storing data representing a plurality of base images; processor for generating a direction-dependent based texture map in accordance with said plurality of base images; and said processor is further configured to render a scene in real-time based upon said direction-dependent texture map.
- 4. The system of claim 3, wherein said processor comprises a graphics processor.
- 5. The system of claim 3, wherein said plurality of base images represent a sample of an object within an environment.
- 6. The system of claim 3, wherein said direction-dependent texture map is derived from said plurality of base images.
- 7. The system of claim 3, wherein said base images are generated via a photographic still camera.
- 8. The system of claim 3, wherein said base images are computer-generated images generated based upon predefined parameters.
- 9. A system for generating a scene in accordance with a plurality of base images, said system comprising:
controller for retrieving base image data from memory; said controller is configured to generate a direction-dependent texture map data in accordance with said base image data; memory for storing said direction-dependent texture map data; said controller is further configured to render said scene in real-time in accordance with said direction-dependent texture map data; and output for outputting data representing said scene to a display device.
- 10. The system of claim 9, wherein said base image data represents an object within an environment.
- 11. The system of claim 9, wherein said base image data represents an object.
- 12. The system of claim 10, wherein said base image data comprises data representing a predetermined number of base images.
- 13. The system of claim 12, wherein said base image data comprises data representing forty (40) base images.
- 14. The system of claim 9, wherein said direction-dependent texture map data comprises a direction-dependent texture map.
- 15. The system of claim 14, wherein said direction-dependent texture map data comprises an object texture map.
- 16. The system of claim 9, wherein said memory comprises a storage device accessible to said controller via a network.
- 17. The system of claim 16, wherein said network comprises the Internet.
- 18. The system of claim 9, wherein said controller is further configured to retrieve base image data for only a predetermined number of base images from said memory, based upon a specified level of desired scene detail.
