Claims
- 1. System for processing at least one flexible web, the web preferably consisting at least in part of paper, for producing documents therefrom, the system comprising a frame, a first processing device supported on the frame, a printing device supported on the frame and adapted to receive electrical data in digital form and to print variable information and/or data onto the web in response to said electrical data, at least one further processing device supported on the frame, transporting means for conveying the web from said first processing device to and past the printing device and from said printing device to said at least one further processing device, wherein said first processing device includes two rotatable processing members adapted to provide the web at each of its two longitudinal margins with a row of holes running in the longitudinal direction of the web, wherein said at least one further processing device comprises at least one further rotatable processing member adapted to process the web conveyed past said at least one further processing member, said transporting means being arranged to comprise transporting members movably supported on the frame and adapted to engage and convey the web, electrical drive means for driving said transporting members and said processing members, electrical control means connected electrically with said drive means and adapted to control said drive means in such a way, that the rotatable processing members adapted to be driven by said drive means are set in motion or are brought to rest substantially simultaneously with said movable transporting members which engage the web, said processing members, when in rotation, being rotated with angular velocities substantially proportional to the velocities of said transporting members, to have it printed on by said printing device and processed by said processing devices with synchronous timing, wherein shelves and guiding means associated with said shelves supported on the frame are provided, wherein said processing devices are arranged to comprise a support adapted to support the or each processing member and to be slid along the guiding means into and out of the corresponding shelf, and wherein loosenable securing means are provided, for securing said support in a working position predetermined for the operation.
- 2. System as claimed in claim 1, in which the control means are connected with said printing device and are adapted for controlling said printing device to make the latter print variable information and/or data fed out from a computer or data carrier as said electrical data in digital form, and wherein the control means are further adapted to control the drive means in such a way, that during operation the rotatable processing members are set in rotational motion or are brought to rest synchronously with the transporting members, said processing members being adapted to be rotated with an angular velocity accurately coordinated with the velocity of the transporting member.
- 3. System as claimed in claim 3, wherein the drive means comprise at least one electric motor mounted on the frame and, associated with each of said processing devices, a gear supported for rotation in the frame and arranged to be rotated by the at least one motor, each processing device being arranged to comprise a gear supported for rotation in the support and connected with the or with at least one rotatable processing member, said latter gear being in separable connection with the gear rotatably supported in the frame and associated with the concerned processing device, when the latter is in its working position.
- 4. System as claimed in claim 3, wherein in the working position of the support the gear supported therein and the gear supported in the frame and associated with the concerned processing device have therein teeth in engagement with each other.
- 5. System as claimed in claim 3 wherein a shaft of the or at least one motor mounted on the frame is also connected with the or with at least one of said transporting members for driving the same.
- 6. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein the drive means comprise a motor fixedly mounted on the support of each processing device and arranged for driving the at least one rotatably processing member of the concerned processing device.
- 7. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said motors is also connected with at least one of said transporting members, for driving the same.
- 8. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one further processing device comprises means for carrying out one of the following shaping operations:
- (a) providing the web with perforations running transversely, to provide predetermined tear-lines for tearing off the sheets;
- (b) providing the web with punched holes to serve for sorting purposes;
- (c) cutting off a marginal strip containing a row of holes, form at least one of the two longitudinal margins of the web, and preferably from both of said margins;
- (d) connected at least two webs with each other at specific locations for producing multiple forms, said connection to be performed for example by stamping or gluing;
- (e) processing a web for producing envelopes and, for example, for cutting it up and/or for providing it with folding lines and/or for connecting it with itself and/or with at least one other web at specific locations, and/or for providing it with holes for forming windows.
- 9. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one further processing device comprises means for cutting up the web, after the web has left the printing device, into sheets by way of transversely running cuts.
- 10. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein said at least one further processing device comprises means for printing upon the web information or data in at least one color different from the color printed by the printing device.
- 11. System as claimed in claim 1, wherein the drive means comprise a motor serving to drive said first processing device and at least one further motor for driving said at least one further processing device.
- 12. System as claimed in claim 11, wherein said motors are stepping motors.
- 13. System as claimed in claim 4, wherein said first processing device comprises a holding member adjustably held in the support and supporting two rotatable processing members for rotation so that the holding member and the two processing members are pivotable around a pivot axis that crosses the axes of rotation of said gear supported in said support, and wherein there are provided means for transmitting rotation of this gear to said rotatable processing members.
- 14. System as claimed in claim 4, wherein the at least one rotatable processing member of the at least one further processing device comprises two processing members, at least one of the two processing members being rotatable, and wherein the at least one further processing device comprises means for providing the web with cuts running in the transverse direction of the web and includes a holding member adjustably held in the support and supporting the two processing members so that the holding member and the two processing members are pivotable around a pivot axis that crosses the axis of rotation of said gear supported in said support, and wherein there are provided means for transmitting rotation of this gear to the or each rotatable processing member, respectively.
- 15. A system as claimed in claim 1,
- wherein said at least one further processing device includes two of said further processing members, each of the further processing members including at least one knife, the cutting edges of the knives belonging to different further processing members being arranged to form an angle with each other and to cross each other during a cutting process at a crossing point which is subject to displacement along the cutting edges, and at least one of the cutting edges being arranged to form an angle different than 90.degree. with the transporting direction of the web.
- 16. A system as claimed in claim 15, wherein the cutting edges of the knives of both further processing members of the at least one further processing device are arranged to have no interruptions, and thereby being adapted to cut up the web into sheets.
- 17. A system as claimed in claim 15, wherein the cutting edge of at least one of the knives of at least one of the further processing members of the at least one further processing device is arranged to comprise interruptions for cutting perforations into the web, to thus form predetermined tear lines.
- 18. A system as claimed in claim 15, wherein both further processing members of the at least one further processing device are rotatably supported.
- 19. A system as claimed in 18, wherein the at least one further processing device further comprises a loosenable locking member for locking and securing against rotations one of the rotatable further processing members, and coupling means for loosenably coupling the further processing member lockable with the locking member with the drive means so that this further processing member can alternately be secured against rotation or rotated by the drive means.
- 20. A system as claimed in claim 15, wherein the knives, when they cross each other during the cutting process, are inclined away from the crossing point on opposite sides of a straight line which lies in the web and which is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the web.
- 21. A system as claimed in claim 15, wherein the knives, when they cross each other, form an angle between 0.2.degree. and 0.4.degree. with respect to a straight line which lies in the web and which is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the web.
- 22. System for processing at least one flexible web, preferably comprising paper, for producing documents and/or envelopes therefrom, the system comprising a frame, transporting means adapted for transporting the web and comprising at least one transporting member movably supported on the frame and adapted to engage the web for transporting the same, guiding means supported on the frame, at least one processing device arranged to comprise a support and at least one rotatable processing member adapted to process the web conveyed past said processing member, wherein the support is displaceable along the guiding means and securing means are provided for securing the support in a working position predetermined for the operation, whereby in the loosened state of the securing means, said support is displaceable from its working position and separable from the guiding means and the frame, wherein said processing device comprises a holding member adjustably held in the support and supporting said at least one rotatable processing member so that the holding member and the or each rotatable processing member are pivotable around a pivot axis that crosses the axis of rotation of said rotatable processing member, and wherein electrical drive means are provided for driving said at least one transporting member and the or each rotatable processing member.
- 23. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein at least two processing devices for carrying out different processes are displaceably guided by the guiding means in one and the same frame, and are secured in a working position by loosenable securing means.
- 24. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein the guiding means are adapted to displaceably guide the support in horizontal direction, and at least one shelf being provided, into which at least one processing device built in the form of a slide-in unit may be inserted from one side of the frame.
- 25. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein the drive means comprise an electric motor mounted on the frame and a gear supported for rotation in the frame and arranged to be driven by the motor, the processing device being arranged to comprise a gear supported for rotation in the support and connected with the, or with at least one, rotatable processing member, said latter gear being connected in a separable connection with the gear rotatably supported in the support, when the latter is in its working position.
- 26. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein the shaft of the motor is additionally connected with the, or with said at least one, transporting member for driving the same.
- 27. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein the, or at least one, processing device comprises means for carrying out one of the following shaping operations:
- (a) providing the web at each of its two longitudinal margins with a row of holes running in the longitudinal direction of the web;
- (b) cutting up the web into sheets by means of cuts running transversely;
- (c) providing the web with perforations running transversely, to provide predetermined tear-lines for tearing off the sheets.
- 28. System as claimed in claim 22, wherein means for carrying out at least one additional processing step on the web are mounted on the frame which supports the said at least one processing device.
- 29. System as claimed in claim 22, comprising a printing device for printing non-repetitive information and/or data, wherein the transporting means are adapted for conveying the web past the printing device, to enable the web to be printed-upon by the printing device and to be processed by the processing device in on-line operation.
- 30. System as claimed in claim 29, wherein the printing device is mounted on said frame.
- 31. System as claimed in claim 20, wherein the, or at least one, processing device comprises two rotatable processing members, provided with the tools required for providing the web--prior to its reaching the printing device--at each of its two longitudinal margins with a row of holes running in the longitudinal direction of the web.
- 32. System as claimed in claim 30, wherein the, or at least one, processing device is adapted to cut up the web--after it has left the printing device--into sheets, by way of transversely running cuts, or to provide it with transversely running perforations, to produce tear lines for tearing off the sheets.
- 33. System as claimed in claim 29, wherein the, or at least one, processing device is adapted to print upon the web information and/or data in at least one color different from the color printed by the printing device.
- 34. A system for processing at least one flexible web, preferably comprising paper, for producing documents and/or envelopes therefrom, the system comprising:
- a first processing device which includes a support and two rotatable processing members adapted to provide the web, at each of its two longitudinal margins, with a row of holes running in the longitudinal direction of the web;
- a printing device adapted to receive electrical data in digital form and to print variable information and/or data onto the web in response to the electrical data;
- a further processing device which includes a support and at least one further rotatable processing member;
- transporting means for transporting the web from the first processing device to the printing device and from the printing device to the further processing device, the transporting means including movable transporting members which engage the web; and
- guiding means associated with each processing device,
- wherein the support of each processing device is displaceable along the guiding means and securing means are provided for securing each support in a working position predetermined for the operation, whereby in the loosened state of the securing means, said support is displaceable from its working position and separable from the guiding means, and
- wherein drive means are provided for driving said transporting members and rotatable processing members, the drive means including an electric motor for driving the rotatable processing members of said first processing device and at least one electric motor for driving the at least one further rotatable processing member of the further processing device.
- 35. System as claimed in claim 34, wherein the motors are stepping motors.
- 36. System as claimed in claim 34, further comprising a common frame on which the guiding means and motors are mounted.
- 37. System as claimed in claim 34, wherein the system is subdivided in at least three units each provided with its own separate frame, wherein one of these frames supports the guiding means and the motor associated with the first processing device, wherein another one of the frames supports the printing device, and wherein still another one of the frames supports the guiding means and at least one motor associated with said further processing device.
- 38. System as claimed in claim 34, wherein said processing devices comprise a holding member in which the, or said at least one, rotatable processing member is supported for rotation, and wherein the holding member is displaceable in relation to the support in a way to make the direction of the axis of rotation of the processing member supported by the holding member become adjustable.
- 39. A system for processing at least one flexible web, preferably comprising paper, for producing documents and/or envelopes therefrom, the system comprising:
- a first processing device which includes a support and two rotatable processing members adapted to provide the web, at each of its two longitudinal margins, with a row of holes running in the longitudinal direction of the web;
- a frame;
- a printing device supported by the frame, the printing device being adapted to receive electrical data in digital form and to print variable information and/or data onto the web in response to the electrical data;
- a further processing device which includes a support and at least one rotatable processing member; and
- transporting means for transporting the web from the first processing device to the printing device and from the printing device to the further processing device, the transporting means including movable transporting members which engage the web,
- wherein said first processing device includes a support separated from said frame and arranged to support the rotatable processing members,
- wherein said further processing device comprises a support separated from said frame,
- wherein the system further comprises drive means for driving the rotatable processing members and the movable transporting members, the drive means including two electric motors mounted on said frame and two gears rotatably supported on said frame, each of said gears being arranged to be driven by one of said motors, and
- wherein said first and said further processing devices each includes a respective gear rotatably supported on the respective support, each of said gears supported on the frame being connected with one of the gears supported on the supports.
- 40. System as claimed in claim 39, wherein the pairwise connected gears are connected with each other by way of a transmission member enclosing the two gears.
