- 3. The system as recited in claim 2, wherein the second member is adapted to enable the circuit board to return to an un-flexed position when the circuit board is disposed at a desired position on the base, and to obstruct lateral displacement of the circuit board from the desired position on the base.
- 4. The system as recited in claim 3, wherein the base comprises a lip, wherein the circuit board is disposed between the lip and the guide rail when the circuit board is disposed in the desired position on the base
- 5. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the circuit board comprises a notch disposed on the circuit board to enable the circuit board to be disposed on the guide rail without contacting the first member.
- 6. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the first member comprises a guide portion and a securing portion, the guide portion being operable to direct the circuit board between the securing portion and the guide rail.
- 7. The system as recited in claim 6, wherein the guide portion is angled relative to the guide rail.
- 8. The system as recited in claim 6, wherein the securing portion extends parallel to the guide rail.
- 9. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the protective assembly comprises a pivotal cover operable to enable access to the plurality of memory modules.
- 10. A system for protecting an electronic component utilized in a computer-based system, comprising:
a circuit board adapted to receive at least one memory module; and a base comprising a guide rail and a first member displaced relative to the guide rail, wherein the first member and the guide rail cooperate to capture the circuit board between the first member and the guide rail as the circuit board is displaced laterally along the guide rail from a first position to a second position.
- 11. The system as recited in claim 10, comprising a second member displaced relative to the guide rail, wherein the circuit board is supported by the guide rail and the second member when the circuit board is disposed in the first position, and wherein the circuit board is flexed by the first member as the circuit board is displaced from the first position to the second position.
- 12. The system as recited in claim 11, wherein the first member comprises a angled guide portion operable to flex the circuit board as the circuit board is displaced from the first position to the second position.
- 13. The system as recited in claim 11, wherein the circuit board comprises a notch disposed on the circuit board to enable the circuit board to be supported by the guide rail and the second member without contacting the first member.
- 14. The system as recited in claim 11, wherein the circuit board is displaced from the second member when the circuit board is disposed in the second position, enabling the circuit board to return to an un-flexed condition.
- 15. The system as recited in claim 11, comprising a third member, wherein the second member and the third member cooperate to obstruct lateral displacement of the circuit board when the circuit board is disposed in the second position.
- 16. An electronic system, comprising:
a chassis; a processor disposed within the chassis; and a removable memory cartridge operable to be disposed within the chassis and electrically coupled to the processor, the removable memory cartridge comprising: a circuit board adapted to receive at least one memory module; and a protective assembly adapted to house the circuit board, wherein the protective assembly flexes the circuit board as the circuit board is displaced laterally in a first direction relative to the protective assembly to bias an end of the circuit board towards a position relative to the protective assembly and wherein lateral movement of the circuit board is restricted by the protective assembly.
- 17. The system as recited in claim 16, wherein the protective assembly comprises a base having a guide rail and a first member, wherein the first member is operable to guide the circuit board between the first member and the guide rail as the circuit board is disposed laterally in the first direction relative to the protective assembly.
- 18. The system as recited in claim 17, comprising a second member, wherein the guide rail and the second member cooperate to support the circuit board at an angle when the circuit board is disposed in a first position within the protective assembly.
- 19. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein the first member comprises a first portion angled relative to the guide rail, and wherein the first portion flexes the circuit board as the circuit board is disposed laterally in the first direction relative to the protective assembly.
- 20. The system as recited in claim 17, wherein the first member comprises a second portion parallel to the guide rail, and wherein the second portion prevents transverse displacement of the circuit board relative to the guide rail.
- 21. The system as recited in claim 16, comprising a user interface communicatively coupled to the processor.
- 22. The system as recited in claim 16, comprising a monitor communicatively coupled to the processor.
- 23. The system as recited in claim 16, comprising a peripheral device communicatively coupled to the processor.
- 24. A method of manufacturing an electronic device, comprising:
providing a circuit board adapted to receive a plurality of memory modules; and providing a protective assembly comprising a base having a guide rail and a first member operable to guide the circuit board between the first member and the guide rail as the circuit board is disposed laterally in a first direction along the guide rail.
- 25. The method as recited in claim 24, wherein providing a circuit board comprises providing the circuit board with a notch to enable the circuit board to be disposed on the base without contacting the first member.
- 26. The method as recited in claim 24, wherein providing a protective assembly comprises providing the base with a second member operable to cooperate with the first member to flex the circuit board as the circuit board is guided between the first member and the guide rail.
- 27. The method as recited in claim 24, comprising providing a chassis operable to receive a plurality of protective assemblies.
