Claims
- 1. A system for receiving, a radio signal representing a radio program comprising:
- first and second radio receiver units for receiving radio signals at respective first and second different frequencies for producing respective first and second radio program signals, each of said first and second radio program signals representing said radio program;
- means responsive to control information included in said radio signals and correlated to said radio program for adjusting an original dynamic in the received radio program signals and for synchronizing said first and second radio program signals in time to produce respective first and second synchronized radio program signals; and
- means for combining said first and second synchronized radio program signals to produce a resultant signal representative of said radio program.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein said means for synchronizing comprising:
- means for decoding a first control signal from said first radio program signal and for decoding a second control signal from said second radio program signal; and
- means for comparing said first and second control signals for determining a delay between said first and second radio program signals.
- 3. The system of claim 2 further comprising:
- a first variable delay stage for delaying said first radio program signal by a first variable delay; and
- a second variable delay stage for delaying said second radio program signal by a second variable delay.
- 4. The system of claim 2 further comprising means for determining a difference in signal strength between said first and second radio program signals and for providing an adjustment value representative of said difference in signal strength; and wherein said means for combining being responsive to said adjustment value for modifying the manner in which said first and second radio program signals are combined to produce said resultant signal.
- 5. The system of claim 4 wherein said means for combining being responsive to said adjustment value exceeding a threshold level for including only a stronger one of said first and second radio program signals in said resultant signal, and being responsive to said adjustment value not exceeding said threshold level for including said first and second radio program signals in said resultant signal.
- 6. The system of claim 5 further comprising means for selecting said first and second frequencies and for adjusting first and second tuners included in said first and second radio receiver units, respectively, for tuning said first and second frequencies, respectively.
- 7. The system of claim 2 wherein said first and second control signals comprising respective first and second binary bit patterns;
- said means for comparing to determine a time difference between said first and second radio program signals by comparing said first and second binary bit patterns;
- said time difference being representative of said delay between said first and second radio program signals.
- 8. A system for receiving a radio signal representing a radio program comprising:
- first and second radio receiver units for receiving radio signals at respective first and second different frequencies for producing respective first and second radio program signals, each of said first and second radio program signals representing said radio program;
- a first variable delay stage for delaying said first radio program signal by a first variable delay;
- a second variable delay stage for delaying said second radio program signal by a second variable delay;
- means responsive to control information included in said radio signals for synchronizing said first and second radio program signals in time to produce respective first and second synchronized radio program signals; and
- means for combining said first and second synchronized radio program signals to produce a resultant signal representative of said radio program; wherein
- said means for synchronizing comprising means for decoding a first control signal from said first radio program signal and for decoding a second control signal from said second radio program signal; and means for comparing said first and second control radio program signals; and wherein
- said synchronizing means being coupled to said first and second variable delay stages for varying said first and second variable delays in response to said delay between said first and second radio program signals.
