Claims
- 1. In a system having a source voltage and a load impedance having a load voltage, a circuit for synthesizing a prescribed impedance, the circuit comprising:an adder circuit that is connected to sum the source voltage and the inverse of the load voltage so as to produce a line voltage; an impedance synthesis circuit that is operably connected to the adder circuit so as to receive the line voltage, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit is implemented so as to generated an output voltage that is substantially equal to the line voltage divided by the prescribed impedance; and a current source, operably connected to the output voltage, which generates a current, wherein the line voltage divided by the current is substantially equal to the prescribed impedance.
- 2. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuitry comprises a digital processor, analog-to-digital conversion circuit, and digital-to-analog conversion circuit, wherein the line voltage is received at the analog-to-digital circuit and the output voltage is produced at the digital-to-analog circuit.
- 3. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit further comprises a direct current voltage operably connected to the current source.
- 4. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit is capable of synthesizing more than one prescribed impedance.
- 5. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit comprises:an analog to digital converter which receives the line voltage and which converts the line voltage to a digital equivalent; a digital processor which receives the digital line voltage and programmably generates the output voltage based on the value of the prescribed impedance; and a digital to analog converter which receives the output voltage and converts the output voltage to an analog output voltage, wherein the analog output voltage is applied to the current source to control the value of the current generated by the current source.
- 6. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit is capable of gyrating inductors and capacitors.
- 7. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit is capable of synthesizing a negative prescribed impedance value.
- 8. A circuit as defined in claim 1, wherein the impedance synthesis circuit synthesizes the prescribed impedance to match the load impedance.
