Claims
- 1-42. (Canceled).
- 43. A device for removing at least one lipid from fluid containing lipids or lipid-containing organisms, comprising:
at least one in-line static mixer for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent, forming a first mixture comprising the fluid and the first extraction solvent, and dissolving at least a portion of the at least one lipid in the first extraction solvent; a first solvent removal device for contacting the first mixture with a second extraction solvent, removing at least a portion of the first extraction solvent, and forming a second mixture comprising the first extraction solvent, the second extraction solvent and the fluid; and a second solvent removal device for removing at least a portion of the second extraction solvent from the second mixture.
- 44. The device of claim 43, wherein the first solvent removal device comprises at least one hollow fiber contactor.
- 45. The device of claim 43, wherein the first solvent removal device comprises at least one drip through column.
- 46. The device of claim 43, wherein the first solvent removal device comprises at least one in-line static-mixer.
- 47. The device of claim 43, wherein the first solvent removal device comprises at least one vortexer.
- 48. The device of claim 43, wherein the second solvent removal device comprises at least one hollow fiber contactor.
- 49. The device of claim 48, wherein the second solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in parallel.
- 50. The device of claim 48, wherein the second solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in series.
- 51. A device for removing at least one lipid from fluid containing lipids or lipid-containing organisms, comprising:
a device for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent, forming a first mixture comprising the fluid and the first extraction solvent, and dissolving at least a portion of the at least one lipid in the first extraction solvent; at least one in-line static mixer for contacting the first mixture with a second extraction solvent, removing at least a portion of the first extraction solvent, and forming a second mixture comprising the first extraction solvent, the second extraction solvent and the fluid; and a solvent removal device for removing at least a portion of the second extraction solvent from the second mixture.
- 52. The device of claim 51, wherein the device for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent comprises at least one hollow fiber contactor.
- 53. The device of claim 51, wherein the device for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent comprises at least one drip through column.
- 54. The device of claim 51, wherein the device for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent comprises at least one in-line static-mixer.
- 55. The device of claim 51, wherein the device for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent comprises at least one vortexer.
- 56. The device of claim 51, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least one hollow fiber contactor.
- 57. The device of claim 56, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in parallel.
- 58. The device of claim 56, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in series.
- 59. A device for removing at least one lipid from fluid containing lipids or lipid-containing organisms, comprising:
at least one in-line static mixer for contacting the fluid with a first extraction solvent, forming a first mixture comprising the fluid and the first extraction solvent and dissolving at least a portion of the at least one lipid in the first extraction solvent, and for contacting the first mixture with a second extraction solvent, removing at least a portion of the first extraction solvent, and forming a second mixture comprising the first extraction solvent, the second extraction solvent and the fluid; and a solvent removal device for removing at least a portion of the second extraction solvent from the second mixture.
- 60. The device of claim 59, further comprising at least one vortexer in fluid communication with the in-line static mixer.
- 61. The device of claim 59, further comprising at least one centrifuge in fluid communication with the in-line static mixer.
- 62. The device of claim 59, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least one hollow fiber contactor.
- 63. The device of claim 62, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in parallel.
- 64. The device of claim 62, wherein the solvent removal device comprises at least two hollow fiber contactors coupled together in series.
- 65-70. (Canceled).
