Claims
- 1. A table comprising a stationary table top having a generally planar upper surface with a skirt depending downwardly from the periphery thereof, a support to maintain said table top in an elevated position, a rigid transparent protective cover extending across said upper surface and terminating adjacent said periphery, a retaining ring to retain said cover on said surface, said ring conforming to the periphery and the depending skirt of said top and having a first limb extending inwardly from the periphery to overlap a marginal edge of said cover and a second limb depending downwardly from said first limb to proximately overlap said skirt, and releasable retainers passing through said second limb to secure said ring to said tabletop, and wherein said retainers prevent movement of said planar upper surface relative to said retaining ring.
- 2. A table according to claim 1 wherein said releasable retainers extend between said second limb and said skirt.
- 3. A table according to claim 2 wherein said releasable retainers include a plurality of pegs each engageable with a respective one of a plurality of holes circumferentially spaced about said skirt.
- 4. A table according to claim 1 wherein a seal is located between said first limb and said cover.
- 5. A table according to claim 1 wherein a flexible substrate is located between said upper surface and said cover, said substrate having an upper surface having information carried thereon.
- 6. A table according to claim 5 wherein said substrate has a shape complementary to said tabletop.
- 7. A table according to claim 6 wherein a seal is provided between said retaining ring and said cover.
- 8. A table according to claim 1 wherein said retaining ring is assembled from a plurality of elements interconnected to provide a unitary retaining ring.
- 9. A table according to claim 8 wherein fasteners interconnect said elements.
- 10. A table according to claim 9 wherein selected ones of said elements engage said skirt to retain said retaining ring when assembled on said table top.
- 11. A table according to claim 10 wherein said table top has a pair of oppositely disposed part cylindrical edges defining part of said skirt and said elements include complementary end members to receive said part cylindrical edges.
- 12. A table according to claim 11 wherein said elements further include a pair of angle members having one arm extending across said table top and another arm extending across said skirt.
- 13. A table according to claim 12 wherein an end of said other arm is received within a respective one of said end members.
- 14. A table according to claim 13 wherein said fasteners extend between said one end of said other arm and end plates located in said complementary end members.
- 15. A conventional table comprising a stationary table top having a generally planar upper surface bounded by a peripheral edge and a skirt depending downwardly from said peripheral edge, a support maintaining said table top in an elevated position, a flexible substrate extending across said table top and having an undersurface in engagement with and supported by said planar upper surface and an oppositely directed surface having information disposed thereon, said substrate extending adjacent the peripheral edge of said top so as to cover substantially said planar upper surface, a rigid transparent cover extending across said table top above the oppositely directed surface of said flexible substrate to provide protection therefor, a retaining ring extending about said peripheral edge and securing said cover to said table top, said retaining ring comprising a first member extending inwardly from the peripheral edge of the table to contact said cover and a second member depending downwardly from said first member and overlapping and conforming to the contour of said skirt and releasable retainers passing through said second member to secure said ring to said table top and to facilitate removal of said cover and replacement of said substrate on a periodic basis, wherein said retainers prevent movement of said retaining ring relative to said planar upper surface.
- 16. A table according to claim 15 wherein said information carried by said oppositely directed surface of said substrate advertising material.
- 17. A table according to claim 16 wherein said substrate is paper.
- 18. A table according to claim 15 wherein said retaining ring is assembled from a plurality of elements interconnected to provide a unitary retaining ring.
