Claims
- 1. An extended tape cartridge configured for operative interaction with a compatible tape cartridge drive and to inhibit interaction with an incompatible tape cartridge drive having an access port of selected profile for slidably accepting a tape cartridge therein through a front bezel, and having guide rails in the access port of selected configuration to confine a tape cartridge sliding therein, the extended tape cartridge comprising:
a base plate having a front edge of selected width and a side edge including a locking notch therein located rearward of the front edge for engaging a locking device in a compatible tape cartridge drive; a housing supported on the base plate and including a top substantially parallel to the base plate and having a front wall between side walls that is substantially flush with the front edge of the base plate and that includes a media access aperture for operatively engaging a compatible tape cartridge drive therein; and a side wall of the housing extending rearwardly from the front wall and including a recess forming a channel therein to engage a guide rail of the compatible tape cartridge drive, said channel including a lateral protrusion to a wider dimension at a location adjacent the locking notch to interface with a guide rail of the selected configuration in an incompatible tape cartridge drive for inhibiting insertion of the extended tape cartridge into operative interaction therewith.
- 2. The extended tape cartridge of claim 1 in which the lateral protrusion of the side wall is disposed at less than approximately 0.8 inches rearward of the front wall.
- 3. The extended tape cartridge of claim 1 in which the selected width is approximately 3.18 inches.
- 4. The extended tape cartridge of claim 3 in which the wider dimension is approximately 3.18 inches.
- 5. The extended tape cartridge of claim 1, wherein the top includes a shoulder portion extending laterally along a side edge of the top to a dimension wider than the selected width at a location adjacent the notch for inhibiting insertion thereof through the front bezel of an incompatible tape cartridge drive.
- 6. The extended tape cartridge of claim 5 in which the selected width is approximately 3.18 inches.
- 7. The extended tape cartridge of claim 5 in which the dimension wider than the selected width is approximately 3.66 inches.
- 8. An extended tape cartridge configured for operative interaction with a compatible tape cartridge drive and to inhibit interaction with an incompatible tape cartridge drive having an access port of selected profile for slidably accepting a tape cartridge therein through a front bezel, and having guide rails in the access port of selected configuration to confine a tape cartridge sliding therein, the extended tape cartridge comprising:
a base plate having a front edge of selected width and a side edge including a locking notch therein located rearward of the front edge for engaging a locking device in a compatible tape cartridge drive; and a housing supported on the base plate and including a top substantially parallel to the base plate and having a front wall between side walls that is substantially flush with the front edge of the base plate and that includes a media access aperture for operatively engaging a compatible tape cartridge drive therein, the top including a shoulder portion extending laterally along a side edge of the top to a dimension wider than the selected width at a location adjacent the notch for inhibiting insertion thereof through the front bezel into operative engagement with of an incompatible tape cartridge drive.
- 9. The extended tape cartridge of claim 8 in which the selected width is approximately 3.18 inches.
- 10. The extended tape cartridge of claim 8 in which the dimension wider than the selected width is approximately 3.66 inches.
- 11. The extended tape cartridge of claim 8, further comprising a side wall of the housing extending rearwardly from the front wall and including a recess forming a channel therein to engage a guide rail of the compatible tape cartridge drive.
- 12. The extended tape cartridge of claim 11, wherein said channel includes a lateral protrusion to a wider dimension at a location adjacent the locking notch to interface with a guide rail of the selected configuration in an incompatible tape cartridge drive for inhibiting insertion of the extended tape cartridge into operative interaction therewith.
- 13. The extended tape cartridge of claim 12 in which the lateral protrusion of the side wall is disposed at less than approximately 0.8 inches rearward of the front wall.
- 14. The extended tape cartridge of claim 12 in which the selected width is approximately 3.18 inches.
- 15. The extended tape cartridge of claim 14 in which the wider dimension is approximately 3.18 inches.
