Claims
- 1. An adapter for an introducer comprising:
a medical device having a port on a distal end of the medical device; and an elastomeric member disposed between the port of the medical device and the introducer for providing a fluid tight and mechanically secure connection therebetween.
- 2. The adapter of claim 1 further comprising a fitting provided on a proximal end of the introducer, the introducer and medical device being manually connectable and reconnectable with each other while maintaining a fluid tight connection between them.
- 3. The adapter of claim 1 where elastomeric member is fixed to the port of the medical device.
- 4. The adapter of claim 1 where the elastomeric member is fixed to the fitting.
- 5. The adapter of claim 1 where the elastomeric member is a separate piece alternatively slip fit either on the distal end of medical device or on the fitting.
- 6. The adapter of claim 1 where the port and introducer are slip fit together to provide the fluid tight connection.
- 7. The adapter of claim 1 where the medical device comprises a hemostatic valve.
- 8. The adapter of claim 7 where the hemostatic valve comprises a splittable hemostatic valve.
- 9. The adapter of claim 7 where the hemostatic valve comprises a slideable valve housing.
- 10. The adapter of claim 7 further comprising a side port communicated with the hemostatic valve, the side port having a controllable valve ending.
- 11. The adapter of claim 1 where the introducer comprises a splittable introducer.
- 12. The adapter of claim 2 where the elastomeric member provides a slip fit between the medical device and the fitting of the introducer.
- 13. The adapter of claim 2 where the fitting further comprises a tab extending therefrom to facilitate manual manipulation of the fitting.
- 14. The adapter of claim 1 where the introducer is torqueable.
- 15. The adapter of claim 13 where the introducer is reinforced by braid.
- 16. A separable adapter for an introducer comprising:
a separable hemostatic valve having a port on a distal end; a fitting provided on a proximal end of the introducer; and a separable elastomeric member disposed between the port of the hemostatic valve and the fitting of the introducer for providing a fluid tight and mechanically secure connection therebetween, the introducer and hemostatic valve being manually connectable and reconnectable with each other while maintaining the fluid tight connection between them.
- 17. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is fixed to a distal end of the port of the hemostatic valve.
- 18. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is fixed to the fitting.
- 19. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is a separate piece alternatively slip fit either into the distal end of the port of the hemostatic valve or into the fitting.
- 20. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the hemostatic valve comprises a splittable, rigid hemostatic valve.
- 21. The separable adapter of claim 16 further comprising a side port communicated with the hemostatic valve, the side port having a controllable valve ending.
- 22. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the introducer comprises a splittable introducer.
- 23. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member provides a slip fit between the medical device and the tubular fitting of the introducer.
- 24. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the fitting further comprises a tab extending therefrom to facilitate manual manipulation of the fitting.
- 25. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the introducer is torqueable.
- 26. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is comprised of a resilient material with a durometer between 20 shore A and 100 shore A.
- 27. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is comprised of silicone. rubber.
- 28. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member has a line of fissure.
- 29. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member is pre-slit.
- 30. The separable adapter of claim 16 where the elastomeric member has a lubricated surface.
- 31. An adapter for an introducer comprising:
a hemostatic valve having a port on a distal end; and a fitting provided on a proximal end of the introducer, the introducer and hemostatic valve being manually connectable and reconnectable with each other while maintaining the fluid tight connection between them.
- 32. The adapter of claim 31 further comprising an elastomeric member disposed between the port of the hemostatic valve and the fitting of the introducer for providing a fluid tight and mechanically secure connection therebetween.
