Claims
- 1. A gel applicator for use with a burstable ampule containing a gel, said gel applicator comprising:
a housing having an interior wall at least partially defining an interior chamber, said interior chamber being adapted to receive at least a portion of the ampule; a cutter extending from the interior wall and adapted to burst the ampule when the ampule is pushed into the interior chamber; and a guide for directing the gel to a desired location, said guide being connected to the housing and at least partially defining a channel that is in communication with the interior chamber.
- 2. The gel applicator of claim 1, wherein the interior wall defines an opening in communication with the channel in the guide, and wherein the cutter is disposed around the opening.
- 3. The gel applicator of claim 1, wherein the guide comprises a pair of spaced-apart forks.
- 4. The gel applicator of claim 1, wherein the guide is an elongated tubular body.
- 5. A teething gel system for use with a burstable ampule containing a gel, said teething gel system comprising:
a teether having a chewing portion sized to be at least partially inserted into a human mouth and defining a plurality of depressions for holding the gel; and a gel spreader moveable across the teether so that the gel is deposited into the depressions, said gel spreader comprising:
a housing having an interior wall at least partially defining an interior chamber, said interior chamber being adapted to receive at least a portion of the ampule; a cutter extending from the interior wall and adapted to burst the ampule when the ampule is pushed into the interior chamber; and a guide for directing the gel to the depressions, said guide being connected to the housing and at least partially defining a channel that is in communication with the interior chamber.
- 6. The teething gel system of claim 5, wherein the chewing portion has a top surface, a bottom surface and an edge, the edge being rounded to form a continuously smooth surface extending from the top to the bottom surface.
- 7. The teething gel system of claim 6, wherein the depressions are located on the top and bottom surfaces.
- 8. The teething gel system of claim 7, wherein the chewing portion is circular and has a center, and wherein the gel spreader is removably attached to the center of the chewing portion so as to allow the gel spreader to rotate in a circular path around the chewing portion.
- 9. The teething gel system of claim 8, wherein the gel spreader has a fork for removably attaching the gel spreader to the chewing portion.
- 10. The teething gel system of claim 9, wherein the fork includes a wiper for removing excess gel from the top and bottom surfaces of the chewing portion.
- 11. The teething gel system of claim 7, further comprising an elongated handle connected to the chewing portion; and
wherein the gel spreader includes a pair of forks separated by a space within which the chewing portion is adapted to be disposed.
- 12. A burstable ampule for holding an amount of medication, said burstable ampule comprising:
an inner sleeve with a closed end, said inner sleeve being composed of a rigid material; an outer sleeve disposed over the inner sleeve and having an end wall spaced from the closed end of the inner sleeve so as to form a pocket therebetween, said outer sleeve being composed of a frangible material, and said pocket containing the medication.
- 13. The burstable ampule of claim 12, wherein the closed end of the inner sleeve has a concave depression formed therein, and wherein the end wall of the outer sleeve is convex.
- 14. The burstable ampule of claim 12, wherein the rigid material is polyethylene, and wherein the frangible material is polyethylene.
- 15. A method of producing burstable ampules comprising the steps of:
providing a first sheet composed of a rigid material; forming a plurality of first depressions in the first sheet; providing a second sheet composed of a frangible material; forming a plurality of second depressions in the second sheet, said second depressions being deeper than the first depressions formed in the first sheet; adding medication to the second depressions; joining the first sheet to the second sheet such that the first depressions are nested in the second depressions, with the medication disposed in between, said nested depressions forming the ampules.
- 16. The method of claim 15, further comprising the step of cutting the ampules from the first and second sheets.
- 17. The method of claim 16, further comprising the step of releasably securing the ampules to a backing strip.
- 18. The method of claim 15, wherein the rigid material is polyethylene, and wherein the frangible material is polyethylene.
- 19. The method of claim 15, wherein the first and second sheets are joined by heat sealing.
