Claims
- 1. A color television signal transmission system having at least one of a transmission part for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals and a reception part for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals comprising:
- (a) first means including means for obtaining a NTSC signal having a frequency lower than a predetermined frequency from a video signal; means for obtaining an information signal having a frequency higher than the predetermined frequency from the video signal, means for shifting the information signal into a band of the NTSC signal so that the information signal exists in the first and third quadrants of temporal and vertical frequency coordinates while the color signals of the NTSC signal exists in the second and fourth quadrants of the temporal and vertical frequency coordinates, and means for producing an extended-NTSC signal by combining the NTSC signal and the shifted information signal; and
- (b) second means including means for separating the NTSC signal and the shifted information signal from the extended-NTSC signal, means for inserting the shifted information signal in a band of the information signal, and means for reproducing the video signal by adding the separated NTSC signal and the information signal.
- 2. An apparatus for producing an extended-NTSC signal and for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for obtaining a NTSC signal having a frequency lower than a predetermined frequency from a video signal;
- (b) means for obtaining an information signal having a frequency higher than the predetermined frequency from the video signal;
- (c) means for shifting the information signal into a band of the NTSC signal so that the information signal exists in the first and third quadrants of temporal and vertical frequency coordinates while the color signal of the NTSC signal exists in the second and fourth quadrants of the temporal and vertical frequency coordinates; and
- (d) means for combining the NTSC signal and the shifted information signal to obtain an extended-NTSC signal.
- 3. An apparatus for reproducing a video signal and for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for separating a NTSC signal and a shifted information signal from an extended-NTSC signal, the shifted information signal existing in the first and third quadrants of temporal and vertical frequency coordinates while the color signal of the NTSC signal exists in the second and fourth quadrants of the temporal and vertical frequency coordinates;
- (b) means for inserting the shifted information signal in a band of the information signal; and
- (c) means for adding the separated NTSC signal and the information signal to obtain the video signal.
- 4. A color television signal transmission system having at least one of a transmission part for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals and a reception part for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals comprising:
- (a) first means including means for obtaining a NTSC signal having a frequency lower than a predetermined frequency from a video signal, means for obtaining an information signal having a frequency higher than the predetermined frequency from the video signal, means for converting the information signal into a region conjugating with the region of the color signal of the NTSC signal in temporal and vertical frequency coordinates, and means for producing an extended-NTSC signal by combining the NTSC signal and the converted information signal; and
- (b) second means including means for separating the NTSC signal and the converted information signal from the extended-NTSC signal, means for inserting the converted information signal in a band of the information signal, and means for producing the video signal by adding the separated NTSC signal and the information signal.
- 5. An apparatus for producing an extended-NTSC signal and for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for obtaining a NTSC signal having a frequency lower than a predetermined frequency from a video signal;
- (b) means for obtaining an information signal having a frequency higher than the predetermined frequency from the video signal;
- (c) means for converting the information signal into a region conjugating with the region of the color signal of the NTSC signal in temporal and vertical frequency coordinates; and
- (d) means for combining the NTSC signal and the converting information signal to obtain an extended-NTSC signal.
- 6. An apparatus for reproducing a video signal and for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for separating the NTSC signal and a converted information signal from an extended-NTSC signal, the converted information signal existing in a region conjugating with the region of the color signal of the NTSC in temporal and vertical frequency coordinates;
- (b) means for converting the converted information signal in a band of the information signal; and
- (c) means for adding the separated NTSC signal and the information signal to obtain the video signal.
- 7. A color television broadcasting system having at least one of a transmission part for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals and a reception part for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals, the color television broadcasting system being compatible with a standard NTSC television system and comprising:
- (a) first means for generating an extended-NTSC color television signal, the first means including means for deriving a NTSC color television signal from a wideband color television signal enabling a standard resolution picture to be reproduced, means for deriving an information signal from the wide-band color television signal, means for modulating a subcarrier by the information signal to provide a modulated information signal in which the modulated information signal exists in a vacant frequency band in a spatio-temporal domain of the television signal, and means for adding the NTSC color television signal and the modulated information signal to obtain the extended-NTSC color television signal enabling a picture of higher resolution than the standard resolution picture to be reproduced; and
- (b) second means for receiving the extended-NTSC color television signal and for reproducing a picture in accordance therewith.
- 8. A color television broadcasting system according to claim 7, wherein the second means is an extended-NTSC color television signal receiver for reproducing a picture of higher resolution than the standard resolution picture in response to the extended-NTSC color television signal, the second means including means for separating the NTSC color television signal and the modulated information signal from the extended-NTSC color television signal, means for demodulating the information signal, means for regenerating the wideband color television signal by adding the NTSC color television signal and the demodulated information signal.
- 9. A color television broadcasting system according to claim 7, wherein the second means is a standard NTSC television receiver for reproducing a picture of standard resolution in response to the extended-NTSC color television signal.
- 10. An apparatus for generating an extended-NTSC color television signal and for converting progressive scanning signals into interlaced scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for deriving a NTSC color television signal from a wide-band color television signal;
- (b) means for deriving an information signal from the wide-band color television signal;
- (c) means for modulating a subcarrier by the information signal to provide a modulated information signal in which the modulated information signal exists in a vacant frequency band in a spatio-temporal frequency domain of the television signal; and
- (d) means for adding the NTSC color television signal and the modulated information signal to obtain the extended-NTSC color television signal.
- 11. An apparatus for regenerating a wideband color television signal and for converting interlaced scanning signals into progressive scanning signals comprising:
- (a) means for separating a NTSC color television signal and a modulated information signal from an extended-NTSC color television signal, the modulated information signal existing in a vacant frequency band in a spatio-temporal frequency domain of the television signal;
- (b) means for demodulating the information signal; and
- (c) means for adding the NTSC color television signal and the demodulated information signal to obtain the wide-band color television signal.
