Claims
- 1. A test sample card, comprising:
- (a) a card body defining a first surface and a second opposite surface, a fluid intake port and a plurality of sample wells disposed between said first and second opposite surfaces, said first and second opposite surfaces sealed with a sealant tape covering said plurality of sample wells;
- (b) a fluid channel network connecting said fluid intake port to said sample wells;
- (c) a bubble trap connected to at least one of said sample wells by a connecting conduit with said connecting conduit formed in said first surface of said card but not in said second surface;
- (d) wherein said bubble trap comprises a depression in said first surface of said card extending only part way through said card body and covered by said sealant tape, said bubble trap thereby formed in an elevated position relative to said sample well when said test sample card is held such that said first surface is in a horizontal attitude.
- 2. The test sample card of claim 1, wherein said connecting conduit connecting said bubble trap to said sample well further comprises a restriction in said conduit to help prevent an air bubble in said bubble trap from migrating from said bubble trap into said sample well.
- 3. A test sample card, comprising:
- (a) a card body defining a first surface and a second opposite surface, a fluid intake port and a plurality of sample wells disposed between said first and second opposite surfaces, said first and second opposite surfaces sealed with a sealant tape covering said plurality of sample wells;
- (b) said card body having a generally rectangular shape having a first lateral side and a second opposite lateral side and first and second end regions, said first and second lateral sides defining first and second edge portions, respectively, the length of said first and second lateral sides being greater than the length of said first and second end regions, with said sample wells having a shape defining a major axis and a minor axis with said major axis oriented parallel to said first and second longer lateral sides of said card body;
- (c) a fluid channel network connecting said fluid intake port to said sample wells;
- (d) each of said sample wells having a bubble trap connected to its respective sample well by a connecting conduit; and wherein
- (e) said connecting conduit and bubble trap for each of said sample wells are arranged on said card such that said connecting conduit is oriented generally upwards from said sample well to said bubble trap in the direction from said first lateral side to said second lateral side, with said bubble trap generally in a raised position above said major axis in said card body relative to its respective sample well;
- (f) the orientation and position of said connecting conduit and bubble trap relative to their respective sample well thereby promoting the movement of any air bubbles in said sample wells upwards and out of said sample well into said bubble trap when said well is filled with a fluid sample and when said test sample card is maintained in a generally upright attitude such that said first edge portion is in a generally horizontal attitude and said first and second opposite surfaces are in a generally vertical attitude.
- 4. The test sample card of claim 3, wherein said connecting conduits for each of said sample wells are formed in said first surface of said card but not in said second surface and wherein said bubble trap comprises a depression in said first surface of said card extending only part way through said card body.
