1. Technical Field
The present invention relates to a testing system for a video card and a testing method thereof, especially to a testing system for a video card with a video graphic array (VGA).
2. Description of Related Art
Video cards are important components in computers. How well things are displayed by a computer depends on the performance of the video card used. A performance test of the video card before the video card is put in use is needed.
A traditional video card testing method includes the steps of: connecting an output connector of the video card to a display and using test video to produce images in the display. Then the images are observed by an operator gauge performance of the current video card. This traditional method is labor intensive and is inefficient in mass production environments. Further the observed test video image may be affected by performance problems of the display.
What is needed, therefore, is a reliable automatic video card testing system.
A testing system includes a computer and a signal switching adapter. The computer includes a test signal generating element and a microprocessor. The test signal generating element is capable of generating an original test signal. The microprocessor is capable of communicating with the test signal generating element. A video card is capable of receiving the original test signal from the microprocessor and outputting a to-be-displayed analog signal. The signal switching adapter includes an A/D converter. The A/D converter is capable of converting the to-be-displayed analog signal to a digital display signal. The signal switching adapter is capable of outputting the digital display signal back to the microprocessor.

The signal switching adapter 30 includes an analog/digital (A/D) converter 32 connected to the output port of the video card 11, and a USB controller 34 connected to the system I/O 17 of the computer 10. The A/D converter 32 is used to convert an analog signal to a digital signal. The USB controller 34 controls the digital display signal from the A/D converter 32 to output through a USB port. Power for the signal switching adapter 30 can be acquired from the computer 10 through the USB controller 34.

The testing system for a video card and the testing method have the following advantages: first, the video card is tested by the computer which receives the video card; second, the signal switching adapter can be detachably applied to any computer with a VGA video card; third, the testing process is automatically realized, no human tester is needed in the test process, and the results of the testing are more reliable.
