Claims
- 1. A textile coating composition comprising an aqueous formulation of:a coating agent comprised of a mixture of an azetidinium polymer and a guanidine polymer; an optical brightener; and optionally, a film-forming binder.
- 2. The composition of claim 1, further including a fabric softener.
- 3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the coating agent represents approximately 50 wt.% to 95 wt.% of the coating composition after drying on a substrate, the optical brightener and fabric softener each represent approximately 0.5 wt.% to 2.0 wt.% of the coating composition after drying on a substrate, and the film-forming binder represents up to approximately 40 wt.% of the composition after drying on a substrate.
- 4. The composition of claim 1, further including a crosslinking agent.
- 5. The composition of claim 4, wherein the crosslinking agent is zirconium acetate.
- 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the coating composition includes a film-forming binder.
- 7. The composition of claim 6, wherein the film-forming binder is selected from the group consisting of polysaccharides, polypeptides, synthetic vinyl polymers, and cationic film-forming binders.
- 8. The composition of claim 7, wherein the cationic film-forming binder is selected from the group consisting of quatemized vinyl pyrrolidone-dimethylaminoethyl-methacrylate copolymer, dimethylaminoethyl-methacrylate-co-methyl methacrylate, polydiallyldimethyl ammonium chloride and quatemized aminoacrylate polymers.
- 9. The composition of claim 1, further comprising a colorant.
- 10. The composition of claim 9, wherein the colorant is a pigment.
- 11. The composition of claim 10, wherein the pigment is selected from the group consisting of silica, titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate.
- 12. The composition of claim 9, wherein the colorant is a dye.
- 13. The composition of claim 1, wherein the azetidinium polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula in which R1 and R2 are independently C1-6 alkylene, X− is an anionic, organic or inorganic counterion, and Y1, Y2 and Y3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl, halo, alkoxy, alkyl, amino, carboxy, acetoxy, cyano, and sulfhydryl.
- 14. The composition of claim 1, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 15. The composition of claim 14, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
- 16. The composition of claim 13, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein n is an integer in the range of 1 to 10 inclusive, R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 17. The composition of claim 16, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
- 18. The composition of claim 13, wherein, in the azetidinium polymer, R1 and R2 are methylene, X−is selected from the group consisting of halide, acetate, methane sulfonate, succinate, citrate, malonate, fumarate, oxalate, and hydrogen sulfate, Y1 and Y3 are independently hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl, and Y2 is hydrogen or hydroxyl.
- 19. The composition of claim 18, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 20. The composition of claim 19, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
- 21. The composition of claim 18, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein n is an integer in the range of 1 to 10 minclusive, R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 22. The composition of claim 21, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
- 23. The composition of claim 18, wherein, in the azetidinium polymer, Y1 and Y3 are hydrogen and Y2 is hydroxyl.
- 24. The composition of claim 23, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 25. The composition of claim 24, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
- 26. The composition of claim 23, wherein the guanidine polymer is comprised of monomer units having the structural formula wherein n is an integer in the range of 1 to 10 inclusive, R3 is hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R4 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or hydroxyl-substituted alkoxy.
- 27. The composition of claim 26, wherein, in the guanidine polymer, R3 and R4 are hydrogen.
