Claims
- 1. A display device comprising:
- a first substrate;
- a plurality of first signal lines extending in a first direction, and provided on said first substrate;
- a plurality of second signal lines extending in a second direction, and provided on said first substrate; and
- a plurality of picture cells provided on said first substrate, each of said picture cells comprising:
- switching means, for turning each of said picture cells ON and OFF, electrically connected to one of said plurality of first signal lines and one of said plurality of second signal lines and,
- wherein each of said picture cells is provided in an area surrounded by said one of said plurality of first signal lines and another one of said first signal lines adjacent to said one of said plurality of first signal lines, and by said one of said plurality of second signal lines and another one of said second signal lines adjacent to said one of said plurality of second signal lines,
- wherein said switching means comprises first and second thin film transistors, said first and second thin film transistors being provided along said one of said plurality of first signal lines, wherein said one of said plurality of second signal lines is branched in the first direction so as to form a gate portion of said first and second thin film transistors, and said one of said plurality of second signal lines and said branched portion of said one of said plurality of second signal lines forms a T-like configuration, and
- wherein said first and second thin film transistors are provided in parallel so as to provide channel directions of said first and second thin film transistors in said second direction.
- 2. A display device according to claim 1, wherein a portion of said T-like configuration of said one of said plurality of second signal lines is a gate electrode of said first and second thin film transistors.
- 3. A display device according to claim 2, wherein each of said picture cells comprises first and second electrodes, said first and second electrodes being electrically connected to said first and second thin film transistors, respectively.
- 4. A display device according to claim 2, further comprising:
- a second substrate; and
- a liquid crystal layer provided between said first and second substrate.
- 5. A display device according to claim 4, wherein each of said picture cells further comprises a pixel electrode connected to said switching means thereof, and wherein said display device further comprises:
- a common electrode formed on said second substrate;
- a first orientation film provided on said common electrode; and
- a second orientation film provided on said pixel electrode.
- 6. A display device according to claim 1, wherein each of said picture cells comprises first and second electrodes, said first and second electrodes being electrically connected to said first and second thin film transistors, respectively.
- 7. A display device according to claim 1, wherein said switching means comprises third thin film transistors, said third thin film transistors being provided along said one of said plurality of first signal lines, and
- further wherein said first, second and third thin film transistors are provided in parallel so as to provide channel directions of said first, second and third thin film transistors in said second direction.
- 8. A display device according to claim 1, further comprising:
- a second substrate; and
- a liquid crystal layer provided between said first and second substrate.
- 9. A display device according to claim 8, wherein each of said picture cells further comprises a pixel electode connected to said switching means thereof, and wherein said display device further comprises:
- a common electrode formed on said second substrate;
- a first orientation film provided on said common electrode; and
- a second orientation film provided on said pixel electrode.
- 10. A display device comprising:
- a first substrate;
- a plurality of signal lines extending in a first direction, and provided on said first substrate;
- a plurality of scanning signal lines extending in a second direction, and provided on said first substrate; and
- a plurality of picture cells provided on said first substrate, each of said picture cells comprising:
- switching means for transferring picture signals, electrically connected to one of said plurality of signal lines an one of said plurality of scanning signal lines; and
- a pixel electrode electrically connected to said switching means,
- wherein each of said picture cells is provided in an area surrounded by said one of said plurality of signal lines and another signal line adjacent to said one of said plurality of signal lines, and by said one of said plurality of scanning signal lines and another scanning signal line adjacent to said one of said plurality of scanning signal lines, and
- wherein said switching means comprises first and second thin film transistors, said first and second thin film transistors being provided along said one of said plurality of signal lines, and a gate electrode portion of said first and second thin film transistors being protrusively extended from said one of said plurality of scanning signal lines.
- 11. A display device according to claim 10, wherein said gate electrode portion of said one of said plurality of picture cells is provided with a T-like configuration.
- 12. A display device according to claim 10, wherein said pixel electrode comprises first and second electrodes, said first and second electrodes being electrically connected to said first and second thin film transistors, respectively.
- 13. A display device according to claim 10, wherein said first and second thin film transistors are provided in parallel so as to provide channel directions of said first and second thin film transistors in said second direction.
- 14. A display device according to claim 13, further comprising:
- a second substrate; and
- a liquid crystal layer provided between said first and second substrate.
- 15. A display device according to claim 14, further comprising:
- a common electrode formed on said second substrate;
- a first orientation film provided on said common electrode; and
- a second orientation film provided on said pixel electrode.
- 16. A display device according to claim 10, wherein said pixel electrode comprises first and second electrodes, said first and second electrodes being electrically connected to said first and second thin film transistors, respectively.
- 17. A display device according to claim 10, wherein said switching means comprises third thin film transistors, said third thin film transistors being provided along said one of said plurality of signal lines, and
- wherein said first, second and third thin film transistors are provided in parallel so as to provide channel directions of said first, second and third thin film transistors in said second direction.
- 18. A display device according to claim 10, further comprising:
- a second substrate; and
- a liquid crystal layer provided between said first and second substrate.
- 19. A display device according to claim 18, further comprising:
- a common electrode formed on said second substrate;
- a first orientation film provided on said common electrode; and
- a second orientation film provided on said pixel electrode.
