Claims
- 1. A method for treating a patient's heart comprising:
- a) forming a channel within a region of a wall of the patient's heart which includes a myocardial layer; and
- b) contacting heart tissue within the region of the heart adjacent the formed channel with an angiogenic agent.
- 2. The method of claim 1 comprising contacting the heart tissue within said region with a angiogenic agent selected from the group consisting of vascular endothelial growth factor, acidic and basic fibroblast growth factor, and angiogenin.
- 3. A method for treating a patient's heart comprising:
- a) ablating tissue in a wall of the patient's heart; and
- b) delivering an angiogenic agent into the heart wall.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the angiogenic agent is selected from the group consisting of vascular endothelial growth factor, acidic and basic fibroblast growth factor, and angiogenin.
- 5. The method of claim 3 wherein a channel is formed within the heart wall when the tissue of the heart wall is ablated.
- 6. The method of claim 5 wherein the angiogenic agent is delivered into the heart wall through the channel formed therein.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein the angiogenic agent is delivered into the channel formed in the heart wall through a catheter having a distal end, a discharge port in the distal end and a lumen extending therein to the port in the distal end.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein the distal end of the catheter is advanced into the channel formed in the patient's heart wall to deliver angiogenic agent therein.
