Claims
- 1. A method of withdrawing heat from the body of a user for therapeutic purposes comprising the steps of:
- a. forming a cooling pad by
- 1) placing a liquid and a sponge into a flexible envelope;
- 2) evacuating air from the envelope with a vacuum pump to compress the sponge; and
- 3) sealing the envelope while said sponge remains compressed;
- b. covering the pad
- c. refrigerating the covered pad to cool it; and
- d. placing the cooled pad contiguous to the body of the user to withdraw heat therefrom.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein placing a liquid in a flexible envelope comprises the step of placing an aqueous liquid in an envelope.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein placing a sponge in a flexible envelope comprises the step of placing a synthetic sponge in an envelope.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein sealing the envelope comprises the step of heat sealing the envelope.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein covering the pad comprises covering the pad with a water impervious material.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein refrigerating the cooled pad comprises the step of placing the pad in a freezer.
- 7. The method of claim 1 wherein placing the cooled pad contiguous the user comprises the step of placing the cooled pad against the skin of the user.
- 8. The method of claim 1 wherein placing the cooled pad contiguous the user comprises placing the cooled pad against the skin to reduce swelling and inflammation.
- 9. The method of claim 1 wherein placing the cooled pad contiguous the user comprises the step of placing the cooled pad against the user's ankle.
- 10. The method of claim 1 wherein placing the cooled pad contiguous the user comprises the step of placing the cooled pad against a muscle of the user.
