Claims
- 1. A thermoplastic fiber glass reinforced sheet comprising a thermoplastic resin filled mat of glass fiber strands which have been needled and wherein the mat is formed from loops of continuous glass strands which are elliptical and loops of continuous glass strands which are circular, the majority of the strands being elliptical and the long axis of the elliptical loops being parallel to each other and one side of the sheet.
- 2. A thermoplastic resin sheet comprising a needled mat of continuous fiber strands having two groups of strands therein, each group of strands being different in geometric configuration in that one group of strands is in the form of generally circular loops and the other group of strands is in the form of elliptical loops, both of said groups being bonded to each other by being mechanically intertwined, the long axis of the elliptical loops being parallel to one axis of the sheet, and thermoplastic resin being dispersed throughout said mat in quantities sufficient to provide a sheet having thermoplastic resin surfaces and thermoplastic resin is present throughout said mat.
- 3. The thermoplastic fiber reinforced resin sheet of claim 2, wherein the mat is formed of continuous glass fibers.
- 4. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 2, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polypropylene.
- 5. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 3, wherein the thermplastic resin is polypropylene.
- 6. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 2, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polyethylene terephthalate.
- 7. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 3, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polyethylene terephthalate.
- 8. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 2, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polycarbonate.
- 9. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 3, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polycarbonate.
- 10. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 2, wherein the thermoplastic resin is polybutylene terephthalate.
- 11. The thermoplastic resin sheet of claim 3, wherein the resin is polybutylene terephthalate.
- 12. A glass fiber mat comprising a needled mat of continuous glass fiber strands of two distant geometric configurations; one group of continuous strands being in the form of generally circular loops and a second group of strands being in the form of elliptical loops, both of wherein the long axis of the elliptical loops of strands all lie in a plane parallel to one side of said mat.
