Claims
- 1. A molded article comprising a substrate having more than one surface and a molded component on at least a part of one surface of the substrates, wherein the substrate and the molded component can independently be either planar or shaped and the substrate is not completely encapsulated by the molded component, and wherein the substrate and the molded component can independently be either flat or shaped, and wherein the molded component is made from a molding composition comprising (a) from about 10 to about 25% by weight of a liquid polymerizable material including at least one volatile monomer reactive material, (b) at least one primary thermal initiator having a primary thermal initiator ten-hour half-life temperature, (c) at least one secondary thermal initiator having a secondary thermal initiator ten-hour half-life temperature of at least about 5C greater than the primary thermal initiator ten-hour half-life temperature, wherein at least about 0.05% by weight is one or more crosslinking agents.
- 2. The molded article of claim 1 wherein the substrate is selected from wood, metal, woven or nonwoven fiber mats, clear polymeric materials, filled polymeric materials, honeycomb structures, and combinations thereof.
- 3. The molded article of claim 2 wherein the substate is an unfilled acrylic sheet.
- 4. The molded article of claim 1 wherein the molded article is a molded sheet article having an upper face comprising planar molded material and a lower face comprising a planar substrate.
- 5. The molded article of claim 4 wherein the lower face substrate is an unfilled acrylic sheet.
- 6. The molded article of claim 4, wherein the article comprises a non-functional core completely encapsulated by the molding composition.
- 7. The molded article of claim 6 wherein the non-functional core is selected from wood, filled polymers, unfilled polymers, decorative surface materials, recycled plastics, metals, metal/plastic composites, cloth fiber mats, glass fiber mats, polyaramid fiber mats, honeycomb structures, or combinations thereof.
- 8. The molded article of claim 1, or wherein the article is made from at least a first charge unit and a second charge unit, the first charge unit having a molding composition that is different from a second charge unit molding composition.
