- 3. The connector described in claim 1 wherein:
- said first recess opens downwardly and is formed in said lower face of said support plate, and said second recesses open upwardly and are formed in said upper face of said support plate;
- said ears lie higher than said mount part.
- 4. The connector described in claim 1 including:
- a circuit board, with said support plate mounted on said circuit board; and wherein:
- said at least one contact includes a switch contact device mounted on said support plate, said switch contact device including a pair of laterally spaced blades and a switch beam, said switch beam having a first end that is coupled to said blades to be depressed when said blades are depressed and with said switch beam having a free second end;
- said circuit board having a conductive trace lying under said beam free end to engage said beam free end.
- 5. The connector described in claim 1 wherein:
- each of said retainers has a branch that is joined to said mount part by a lateral joiner, and each of said branches has a greater longitudinal length than said lateral joiners;
- said branches have longitudinal ends that are resiliently deflectable toward each other, and said support plate has a pair of side shoulders (100) that face each other and that deflect said ears toward each other.
- 6. The connector described in claim 1 wherein:
- at least one of said plurality of said second recesses forms a primarily rearwardly-facing support shoulder, and at least one of said plurality of second recesses forms a primarily forwardly-facing support shoulder;
- said contact rear portion forms primarily forwardly and rearwardly facing contact shoulders that substantially engage said rearwardly and forwardly facing support shoulders.
- 7. The connector described in claim 6 wherein:
- said support includes a catch with an inclined surface having a forward end forming said primarily forward-facing shoulder.
- 8. An electrical connector which includes an insulative support plate having upper and lower faces (46, 48), and at least one contact (44) mounted on said support plate, with said support plate having a blade slot (52) and with said contact having a center plane (75) and having a blade with front and rear blade portions with said front blade portion projecting through said blade slot and above said upper face of said support plate, and with said contact having a rear portion (61) for mounting in said support plate and with said contact having laterally opposite sides, wherein:
- said contact rear portion includes a mount part (66) joined to said rear blade portion and lying along said center plane, said rear portion including a pair of retainers (80, 82) extending from each of laterally opposite sides of said mount part;
- said mount part lies in a lower plane (26) and said retainers have front and rear ears (104, 118) that lie in a higher plane (24) that is higher than said lower plane;
- said support plate has a lower recess (70) in its lower face with said mount part lying in said lower recess, and said support plate has front and rear upper recesses (98, 120) in its upper face with said ears lying in said upper recesses.
- 9. The connector described in claim 8 wherein:
- said support plate has a plate rear end (50) and said rear upper recesses (120) extend to said plate rear end;
- said lower recess has a rear portion and said support plate includes a forwardly-facing shoulder (114) at said rear portion of said lower recess.
- 10. The connector described in claim 8 wherein:
- said retainers include forward and rearward branches (82, 84) on each side of said mount part, with joiners (24) connecting said mount part to each of said branches, with said forward branches extending fowardly from said joiners and having ears at their front ends and with said rearward branches having ears at their rear ends.
- 11. Contact apparatus, comprising:
- a support plate having upper and lower surfaces and having a plate portion with upper and lower surface areas;
- a contact rear portion and a blade extending forward from said rear portion with said blade extending from substantially the height of said support plate upper surface and extending forward and primarily parallel to said support plate upper surface, said contact rear portion including a mount part that is mounted on said support plate, with said mount part having laterally opposite sides and a pair of retainers each lying laterally beyond one of said sides;
- each of said retainers have front and rear ends that are bent to form ears in an upper plane, with at least a lower portion of said mount part lying substantially in a lower plane that is below said upper plane of said ears, with said lower portion of said mount part lying facewise against said lower surface area and with said ears lying against said upper surface area.
- 12. The contact apparatus described in claim 11 wherein:
